When we got off at Gatwick, there were a bunch of police officers with guns waiting for somebody. Not sure what that was about, or if it was connected to the 13 people or however many people they caught planning something terroristy on United, Continental , and American Airlines right when we were trying to go home. Delayed at Gatwick for four hours while the FBI was doing background checks on everybody, or so I heard. Two stuck on the tarmac, two stuck on the plane. *lol* JT's story reminded me of other crazy shit. Also missed the connecting flight home because Northwest (before the Delta merger) didn't inform us that there was one for the night, but at least we got a hotel voucher, although they damaged our luggage. *lol* Also the economy class alleged " Chinest food" made me sick. Don't eat shit but the rolls and ice cream. *lmao* Had to throw out my Big Mac meal at the airport because I guess mayonnaise can be weaponized as an explosive or some goofy bullshit, I guess. *lmao*

JT is often seen as this innocent man, but he's such a typical banter-based bro like in the states that it makes me laugh. Of course, like every other person here, it makes me wish I knew these boys in person- but likely because I am in a rural area with no one whom thinks like me anywhere within 300 to 400 miles of me. But for the iceberg, the water level would actually go down upon melting, because the ice is less dense than liquid water, hence how it floats. So as it melts it would become more dense, thus less volume.

The same would happen if atmospheric pressure was so big that it would overcome the structural integrity of friends cells. But that would mean friend has a really bad time.

2025-03-10 18:35:13 +0000 UTCNow, that leaves us with the conclusion that the volume of the water/pee mixture in the tub and JTs friend given that as comrade andrei pointed out does not move inside the tub, so the amount of him being in the water or diluted pee line, does not change. However, there is no equal density in the human body, like skeletal muscle is around 25% denser than adipose tissue afaik, bones are also different, as are organs etc. the solution is really simple in the end, the bladder will have a smaler amount of pressure than it did before the incident of peeing, so it's density is lower (there is less mass in the same volume). The pee will therefore not change the mass of the total of friend+water+pee, but the local densities change and there is now more volume in friend+water+pee because the density of friend decreased and mass stays the same. And density is mass per volume. So D=m/V . If m stays the same and density d creases, V must increase. Or as a formula V=m/D. So the lowet the density l, the higher the volume given equal mass. The tub overflows.

But: first of all it's a change in volume, which however can be used to determine the density of an object and it's mass if you know it's weight, as density is mass per volume. (We can take weight to equal mass which is not correct cause weight represents the gravitational foforce the object to he measured excerts as well as the force the other relevant object excerts on the measured object (i.e. earth) all other objects do also excert force upon the measued object (in this case JTs friend in the tub) but for day to day cases it's irrelevant cause they are either too far away to meaningfully influence the experiment or are of too little mass)).

2025-03-09 21:19:45 +0000 UTCThis is partly true I think, because free floating ice actually is partly above water, and that's why when it melts, the more dense quantity of liquid water that is added to the overall fluid in which it floated is exactly the sum of the submerged and above-water parts of the ice, thus not changing the level. In other words, the ice cube and its resulting meltwater are the same weight of water, which is either added to the drink (liquid) or displaces that same amount of drink to float (ice).

2025-03-09 09:17:10 +0000 UTCAlright, let's talk pissing in a vat. Firstly, the best and funnest way to see would be to actually do the experiment. It's the way science has worked for centuries. We test and then we figure out why what happenned did. However, to set up this experiment would pose some challenges, because "to the brim" annoyingly has some variation to it. Considering the composition of the water, the temperature, and thus, most importantly, its surface tension, there can very well be a bladder's worth of space for the water to go above the brim and yet not spill due to surface tension, considering the huge surface of a typical tub. And it would be very difficult to observe the difference in level if this were to happen. Secondly, although liquid can not be compressed, the volume of the pee inside the bladder would be the same as its volume after being pissed, but other parts of the body contain gases, and thus CAN change volume during the act of pissing. Not only say intestinal gas which can be squeezed or not by the abs in different states of relaxation, but also, most importantly, the lungs. The simple act of breathing while submerged would shift the body's displaced water volume by way way more than the average volume of a pee, so that would also muddy the observable difference. Those premises being laid down, I would like to propose a better way of conducting the experiment. Firstly, you would need to fully submerge the body in order to get a 100% accurate reading. Considering that the head hopefully doesn't meaningfully contribute to the overall volume change of the body in the case of peeing, it may as well be from the neck down. The tank of water should be shaped like a bottle with a long, thin, marked neck, and should be filled up to the straight, marked part on the neck. Differences in level are much more easily observed in say a 1 cm wide, 1 m long tube than on a large surface. Then, the experimentee should be able to lie completely relaxed, no squeezing of anything, for enough time that his internals adapt and stabilize to the underwater pressure. He should also breathe as regularly as possible, same size breaths. The min and max of the water level at the neck should measured a few times, say 10, beforehand, and the mean between the 2 should be considered the experimental level 1. Ideally, the water would be warm and slightly salty to as best approach the density of pee. After the peeing, which again, would have to be done as gently as possible, refraining from any sighs of relief, belly relaxings or any other changes in the body, we can again measure the min and max of the water level on the marked neck and calculate the mean, which would be experimental level 2. After taking into account possible inaccuracies, comparing the 2 levels should prove or disprove the initial hypothesis. I personally think it SHOULD remain unchanged, relying on a simplified, immaginary version of the experiment, in which we submerge a water balloon into water and then let all the water escape from it. In that case, we are agreed the water level would not change, because the elastic force of the baloon would expell the water inside it, thus changing the initial volume of the full balloon into the sum of the volume of water that was inside it and the volume of the deflated balloon, which is to say not changing it at all. In my opinion, if the peeing experiment shows a different result, it is due to a variatio brought in by the anatomy of the body which is not a perfect system and thus is not limited to the simple physics of buoyancy and the archimidean principle.
