2025-09-08 01:13:08 +0000 UTCMy great-grandfather's family came to America from French Canada (as it was called). Immediately, his mother said, "In this house, we speak American." and the French language left our family line. That's how it was in the late 1800s.

2025-09-06 21:27:26 +0000 UTCI don't have a dog in the fight--I liked Dusty Baker (more as a player than manager) and I was a huge fan of Rod Beck, even before he joined my Red Sox. But please stop perpetuating the myth that Baker ruined Beck's career and Shooter once pitched in 11 straight games. The most consecutive games Beck threw in his entire career was five. Even in 1992 when Beck pitched a career-high 92 innings under Giants manager Roger Craig, the most consecutive games he appeared in was three. Beck also admitted that he had bone spurs in his elbow—and had for years--but elected to continue pitching rather than have surgery to remove them. He finally had surgery in May, 1999 and missed only two months of the season. It wasn’t until he was ineffective in 1999 that he finally decided to undergo surgery and that came after Cubs manager Jim Riggleman used Beck in a Natonal League high 81 games, in which he had him throw in five consecutive games twice and four twice. Riggleman later said he used Beck in 12 to 15 games in 1998 that he shouldn’t have but had no choice because of “other people’s failures.” James knew Beck personally and I never met the man, so I’m guessing Shooter most likely blamed Baker, especially if he developed bone spurs under Baker’s watch. I blame Riggleman but I wasn’t there.

2025-09-06 15:00:32 +0000 UTCIt was very obvious in the bar rescue episode that his wife was a huge enabler of his behavior, so it doesn't surprise me that she acted in that way about his guilt. Dan's still a piece of shit, tho, and deserved everything he got.

2025-09-05 18:40:27 +0000 UTCI grew up in a very small town (technically a village) in PA, where everyone immigrated from the same small town in Italy. One of our neighbors was an Irish guy who loved to tell the story of his first dinner with his future wife’s family. It was pasta, of course, with chicken feet in the sauce.

2025-09-03 02:17:46 +0000 UTCYou mentioned Otis Nixon in this episode and a couple others . You have suggested he might not be the Face of baseball, or not quite the most handsome player ever. Well I have a story. Back in the day when he was playing for the Red Sox with Willie McGee and followed him in the batting order. My wife decided to make an effort to watch baseball with me. I watched a lot of sports back then but she didn’t. So she sits down on the couch with me and Willie came up to bat. She immediately said “Oh my god he is hideous “ I knew Otis was next to bat and couldn’t resist saying “Wait until you see the next guy.” Otis stepped into the batter’s box and my wife said “ Oh no! That’s enough.” She never sat down with me again to watch sports. Otis Nixon cock blocked me . Not my favorite player. You have comented several times and I decided it was time to share that.

2025-09-02 19:01:25 +0000 UTCSo, in the case of the dog, Maggie: TLDR: Maggie was almost certainly trying to wake Wendy *despite* the blood, not because of it. TW: not a fun topic, dogs and dead bodies Behavioralists believe that even when dogs bite their owners after they've passed, they're probably trying to wake them. They're also likely biting out of panic at first, then their wires get crossed with new input that may trigger eating behavior from there. They also might be trying to clean the scene to avoid attracting large predator/scavengars, such as bears, on an instinctual level. There's little clear, systematic data gathered about this, but evidence suggests that dogs will wait a long time and, in some cases, will actually starve first.

2025-09-02 08:09:12 +0000 UTCHaha. James is 100% correct. I punched a boy in the head/face a few times when I was in middle school and ended up with an identical injury. Three fingers and two bones in my hand busted. I spent 8 weeks in a cast covering my middle, ring and pinky fingers going all the way to my elbow. Very typical Boxers fractures.
