August Ends - Patreon Goes Subscription
Added 2024-08-26 13:07:19 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
It's official, Patreon is transitioning over to subscription only billing.
What does this mean for Ecchi, and more importantly, what does this mean for you???
Nothing really. While, my account is technically set to per update billing, I think it's clearly communicated that I charge once per month. Aside from the couple of occasions where I forgot to make a monthly paid post, or let a billing slide due to life circumstances, I'm essentially already sending out charges on a monthly regiment.
Why is this happening?
Without going into too many details, it's happening because Apple is forcing this change in order for them to keep their precious app listed in Apple's iStore. As for the Why's of any of this, I have no idea. It probably comes down to money, and what percentage each party takes or whatever. I'm going to try not to waste another second of anyone's life thinking about this.
If Apple says it must be a firm monthly billing cycle, or if Visa says no porn, then Patreon (despite their lofty ideals of creating a crowd funding structure for the breadth of human imagination, perversion, and creativity) will crumple like a wet paper bag and relent to the fickle caprice of the powerful capital enriched greater-gods of our universe.
Is this okay? Yes.
While the reason for the sudden changes are rather random from my point of view, I welcome them. I actually requested that they set this account to monthly billing around a year ago, but they basically said it was a technical impossibility, maybe someday they could do this, but for now they lacked the ability to perform this black art on their database.
Well, a year goes by and Apple says all Patreon creators must be set to monthly billing or their app gets pulled, and in a flash, it's done. Hahaha! That's how things go.
Okay, so if my understanding of this is correct, this should be the last "paid post" I'll be making at the end of a month. From now on, automatic subscription billing will begin on October 1st. Again, basically nothing has changed.
As always, thank you for your support. Back to the drawing board.

Fun tidbit, apparently Visa/Mastercard are not even the ones pushing heavy restrictions on NSFW content. Japanese politician went directly to Visa headquarters this month and apparently its a middleman that did it. So they need to replace that middleman to get visa/Mastercard again. Like take it with a grain of salt Visa could have flat out lied to a foreign politician. But if its something that can improve things then I hope thry change the problem out for someone less puritan.
