Gimme back my Fedora!

Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it ain’t:-)

Release 17.1.0 of the R.E.A.L. VR mod fixes Indiana Jones and the Great Circle after the recent patches that broke VR support. There are probably going to be further official updates, and I’ve been pretty busy working on extending support to new games, but I did need to provide a solution for people who have been playing Indy in VR and could not continue because for one reason or another they couldn’t roll back the game to the previous version.

Speaking of Indy, some of you have been asking me to extend the VRAM guard to the game. I tried, but unfortunately Indiana Jones and the Great Circle doesn’t obey the operating system recommendations when deciding how much video memory to allocate. It just picks a budget based on the graphics options you select in its menus, and if the memory isn’t available at the moment (or even if the GPU doesn’t have that much VRAM on board at all) it happily proceeds to overallocate and the 1-2 fps slideshow begins.

That’s some pretty sloppy programming, especially considering that the game uses a fork of id Tech 7 :-(

Anyway, if you pay attention to your VRAM usage and don’t change graphics options around too much, the game runs smoothly. If only Gina would get out of the way when I’m trying to squeeze through, hehe.

Another small change that v17.1.0 brings: it should now be possible to select ray reconstruction in all games (like CP2077 for example) without crashes or black screens. However, that will disable my DL(S)SS fix, so everything will be shimmery again.

The technical reason for this is, ray reconstruction (DLSS-RR) is a different form of DLSS that NVIDIA cards implement specifically for ray tracing, and it’s mutually exclusive with plain old DLSS. Also, even though ray reconstruction does provide some acceleration (with comparable quality) to path tracing, using it versus having no ray tracing at all still incurs a performance penalty of abut 60%. Meaning that the frame rate is about 40% of what you can get with ray tracing disabled. For that reason, I don’t think it’s a good use of my time to try and fix ray reconstruction like I did with normal DLSS, at least for now.

See you soon, and as Brandon says, praise the fun!!!

Agreed, can’t wait. Mine won’t load at all with the headset, but loads the mod perfectly without it. Is trying to connect to SteamVR upon launch, not sure what’s going on.

I’m also still waiting for this fix. Still sitting half way through the game hoping there will be a fix so I can finish it in VR since it’s way better that way. Any word?

What a scam this page is. Mod is not working AT ALL. Bought a new system (rtx5070), for it, but it's just flickering even with the lowest graphic settings. Such a scam omg.

I've got the same problem - update broke it. I'm gutted as this week was my week to blitz it in VR :(

You can try to turn updates off, I don't think that works all the time but you can do that and then start Steam offline and even start the game via the .exe file. No way of knowing if the update will break the mod until it happens though.

Hi Brandon me again, Do we have a risk by tomorrow at KCD 2 update to the mod not works and needs an update? I think this can also affect any mod. if that is the case maybe we should start Steam offline from now until we are sure that mods are working or are updated... is that right ? Thanks in advance for your help
