Eurogamer plays Far Cry New Dawn in VR!

By now I'm pretty sure that every one of you is familiar with Ian's VR Corner []-D

I'm talking about Ian "trust me to take cover behind an explosive barrel" Higton, VR player and evangelist extraordinaire! Watch the latest episode of his weekly forays in the virtual realms for some intense Far Cry New Dawn gameplay, plenty of chicken slide-kicking action, and the usual tons of ROFL-level humor.

Oh, and don't forget to like and subscribe, because Ian is doing the Lord's work with his videos, and his love for VR is just what we need to convince video game creators that VR is NOT dead!!

In somewhat unrelated news: there's been much discussion in comments to my previous post about the best toilet seat arrangement, pre-position, during-position, and post-position, now that I'm a married man. My head is spinning. What about if I just pee in the shower? :-D

You can change the .bat file to a .txt file and open it with WordPad to see where it looks. It should look where the game stores the user files normally. Appdata/local folder for instance for Hogwarts. It will look in Documents/My Games for Far Cry. Something like Forbidden West actually has its settings saved in the registry so it looks for a registry file. You can look through and get a sense of where it is looking though.

Hi Luke. Thank you for all you do. I can't get New Dawn [or Far Cry 6] to work because it can't find my game profile [there is one]. If i knew where it was looking I could just put the profile in a folder where it is looking, but i don't know where to make it [that is how I got Far Cry 5 & HOL to work].

What kind of GPU does your Laptop have. The problem with Laptops for VR is that performance is lower than PC counterparts. They need to be more power efficient and not drain your battery quickly so they are lower powered versions of PC parts usually which equals less performance. I can run them on my 3070 laptop but it is not a great experience compared to a 3080TI or upper 40 series PC. You should focus on lowering game settings as much as possible and raising resolution. If you have a really low end system, there is also Mono rendering mode which is just the render from one eye, so no Stereo 3d. It will look far better at lower resolutions though and still much more immersive than playing flat. You could also try lowering your headset refresh rate as low as possible and that will lower the fps required for using 1/3 or 1/2 rendering mode which will allow you to increase resolution more. Then there is Legacy which will free up some overhead for the GPU because it is not generating extra frames like 1/3,1/2 but it will have motion jittering. You will probably have to do some experimenting to find a good balance but really depends on your system.

Started New Dawn on my laptop which runs fine but in vr its grainy which is difficult to look terrible and cyberpunk works fine but won't run in vr. Is my laptop just not powerful enough to run in VR?

I am not too hyped for that game, but I agree it would definitely be beautiful to explore in VR for a while. Could happen later this year 🤷‍♂️ it has been requested a number of times.

Far Cry ND is stuning game but I regret that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is not in VR because this wonderful 3D world was created to be "Avatar of me".

Marcin Augustyniak

If he did decide to, probably wouldn't be for quite a while out. Already have a couple more Far Crys probably and Forbidden West.

I sincerely congratulate you on your marriage. I'm wondering if it's possible to make a Granblue Fantasy Relink VR mode.
