Release 11.2.1 of the R.E.A.L. VR mod, attached at the end of the post, adds Far Cry New Dawn to the list of titles that we can play in VR.

Enjoy this odd spinoff from Far Cry 5 (which plays almost like a cross between Far Cry and Fallout and is downright gorgeous sometimes, in the words of my dear friend Brandon)... and to answer one of your most recurring questions: yes, I will definitely try my hand at modding Horizon Forbidden West when it comes out for PC!

Release 11.2.1 also fixes the Steam version of Atomic Heart which was broken by the launch of the latest DLC (the Game Pass version works fine even after the update).

As usual the mod archive is common for all supported titles, and the updated list is now:

Setup

I developed and tested the Far Cry New Dawn mod using the Ubisoft+ version of the game; other editions should also work, but if you encounter issues please upload your RealVR.log file somewhere so we can try to sort them out. Also, make sure that your video drivers are updated to the latest version, even though FCND is an older game.

Run the game flat (not in VR) at least once, so that it can generate its config files and you can check that it works correctly. Then quit out of it and extract the mod archive into the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry New Dawn\bin_plus" folder if you have the Ubisoft+ subscription, or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry New Dawn\bin" if you bought the game from Ubisoft directly but without the subscription; note that you might need to customize the path if you own the game from a different store, but it will always be the one that contains the "FarCryNewDawn.exe" executable file.

Finally run RealConfig.bat. It will perform a few required operations (including the v-sync fix for NVIDIA drivers) and preselect graphics settings that are known to work well in VR. Remember that running RealConfig is mandatory; if you omit this step the mod will not work.

At this point, the next time you launch Far Cry New Dawn it should automatically display in your VR headset. You'll still need to tweak a few things in-game however, in order to get the best possible experience.

Setting the resolution

The most annoying thing with this FCND conversion is setting the resolution at startup. A few steps are needed to make Far Cry New Dawn run properly in VR:

You'll know that the correct resolution is set because the window on the monitor will appear squashed vertically, but in the headset the aspect ratio will be correct. Also the R.E.A.L. VR overlay will report it as the current VR resolution.

The resolution will remain valid until you quit the game. On the next gameplay session, Far Cry New Dawn will remember your injected resolution, but it won't be automatically activated for some reason. What I do to get it back is quite simple (a little tedious, but you only have to do it once per play session):

Cutscenes

Cutscenes have top/bottom black bars, which I didn't disable because they work correctly in VR and sort of preserve the "cinematic" effect. There is no forced camera though: you can still look anywhere and the frame will follow your gaze.

Some cutscenes however were prerendered by the developers and stored as movies, so there's nothing I can do about them: they will appear as if projected on a virtual 2D screen in VR. That is notably true of the rather long introduction sequence.

Game options

You can set all graphics and gameplay options in the game menu according to your liking and how powerful your GPU is, but there are a few settings that you must leave to the defaults preselected by RealConfig in order for the mod to work properly:

The following settings are preselected by RealConfig but it's possible that different values would still work correctly, although I'm not sure because I couldn't test them thoroughly:

I also recommend setting "HD Textures" to ON unless you card is really low on video memory.

As also discussed in the Updates and known issues section, you will need to reset OPTIONS> GAMEPAD> GENERAL> Aiming Assists to OFF every time you boot up Far Cry New Dawn, as for some reason the game doesn't remember the setting.

Input

You will want to use a gamepad to play Far Cry New Dawn (XInput-compatible controllers like the ones from Microsoft are the best for my mods). Keyboard and mouse sort of work too, but there might be issues, like mouse clicks activating other windows at random or some entries in the game menus being unreachable with the cursor; thus, in order to have a smooth experience, using a gamepad is highly recommended.

Don't worry about console-player syndrome: in my mods aiming is gaze-driven and extremely fast, intuitive and accurate, so even if you're used to playing FPS with your mouse, give your gamepad a chance ;-)

Gameplay

The Far Cry New Dawn mod fully supports 6 DoF tracking, i.e, the camera will follow your head rotation and movement. When your weapon is holstered, the HUD will float in space in front of you, so you can just look around in order to be able to read its full information, even the hints appearing on the sides and in the corners.

Gaze-based aiming works and the crosshair will always be properly aligned. To that effect, whenever you have a weapon drawn 6 DoF will be limited to 3 DoF, i.e., without positional tracking. For accurate, intuitive ADS (Aiming Down Sights), remember to set your dominant eye in the "FCND" tab of the mod overlay. Binoculars work too, and tagging the enemies also follows the direction of your gaze.

I disabled depth of field effects because usually they have no place in VR, and in Far Cry games they make weapon models look all blurry, especially when you aim down the sights. However, since I always believe in keeping as faithful to the original gameplay and design as possible, the "FCND" tab of the mod overlay will allow you to restore them if you so wish (game restart needed). Also, in the same tab you can change the world scale, from small adjustments to playing with dolls or giants, and even force the game to render to a 2D virtual screen in case you should find a section too hard to play in full VR.

Updates and known issues

Update Feb 9: release 11.2.1 fixes an issue with Far Cry New Dawn where some of my patches might fail on versions of the game other than the Ubisoft+ one (a symptom of that issue was being unable to look left/right in cutscenes). It also restores full VR functionality to the Steam version of Atomic Heart which was broken by the launch of the latest DLC.

AMD graphics card users: the game might fail to enter VR when running on a system with an AMD GPU. Please upload your RealVR.log file somewhere and I will try to fix my detection code for your configuration.

World markers: Sometimes icons that should be anchored to specific objects, NPCs or locations in the world will be floating instead, depending on the direction you're looking at and on your distance from the object. Getting closer to the anchor always appears to fix it.

Gaze-based aiming: Especially during a heated battle, you might find yourself unable to move the gun left/right by turning your head (it looks like it's sticking to one enemy). That is caused by OPTIONS> GAMEPAD> GENERAL> Aiming Assists accidentally being turned ON. Unfortunately, at least on my system, Far Cry New Dawn has a bug that makes it forget the setting for Aiming Assists every time you boot up the game. If you have the same issue, you need to change Aiming Assists to OFF at the start of each playing session.

Mounted guns: To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to move mounted guns in Far Cry games according to where the player is looking at, so I believe it's best to disable gaze-based aiming completely in those situations. Guns mounted either on vehicles or on the ground will be fully controlled by the thumbstick, while the camera has freelook. The crosshair won't be in the correct position, but it doesn't matter much because mounted guns give you a pretty clear idea where you're shooting at, just by watching where the destruction happens ;-)

Vehicles: Similarly to other Far Cry games, if you rotate the game camera with your right thumbstick while driving a vehicle, what happens depends on the rotation amount: if you tweak the direction just a little, the game will "helpfully" realign the camera with the vehicle's direction after a couple of seconds. If instead you use the right thumbstick to rotate the camera by a large amount, then the game will not interfere with your decision.

Steam Input: If FCND doesn't seem to recognize some specific gamepad inputs, try disabling Steam Input (globally or for the game).

Widescreen monitors: Just like with Far Cry 5, if you are using a desktop monitor resolution which is not 16:9 and the game appears to be using the wrong FOV (which results in the world distorting as you look from side to side), make sure to set your desktop to a 16:9 resolution before starting the game.

Cutscenes: a few short cutscenes have an FOV problem that makes the world look a little swimmy, as though the image were zoomed in.

Animations: some scripted animations, like the one when you enter a ladder going down, look weird in VR.

Kind of...... There is an issue in Co op where the camera will break. You can fast travel together to fix it but it is a somewhat frequent annoyance. I think cars will also break the camera in Co op sometimes. If you don't mind the jank, then you may be able to have some fun. I wouldn't buy a second copy just for it though.

For Far Cry 5 and New Dawn, the mouse gets stuck in the upper left side of the screen and some of the UI elements look stretched. This is after I adapted the resolution in the Reshade UI, set the windowed mode to borderless, and set the resolution to what my rig can handle. Any ideas on how to fix this? I play with kb/mouse...the PS controller is too weird (it sticks when I try to move forward.)

The pause/break key on the top row is the default button for keyboard. I don't remember if thumb sticks open the overlay in FC6. Could also be triggers or start/pause together.

Are you getting 90fps while the game is active (not paused)? What headset? Make sure you don't have any extra overlays active like OpenXR Toolkit.

Did you actually delete the entire game folder though? If not then some files will still persist. Make sure to delete the dxgi.dll file. You may also need to go into the user file for the game which is something like C:\Users\brand\AppData\Local\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077 There will be two settings file there and you can delete the usersetting.json file and then rename the one with _orig in it which is the original settings file. You should just be able to delete the dxgi.dll file to get back to flat though or rename it to dxgi_bak.dll if you want to switch back and forth. Is your system not up to running it, or you just want to run the game with Ultra RT?

I ended up uninstalling the mod but now I cant run the game normally, or at all for that matter. I have reinstalled cyberpunk on steam twice and for some reason I keep getting the error "code execution cannot proceed b because cudart64_110.dll was not found" despite all of the mod files being gone. Could it be a conflict with another mod? Do you have any other gaming or VR overlays/software running? Wireless or wired controller? If you are on Steam, try disabling Steam input or using default settings in the controller options.

What resolution/ppd are you running at? What headset? Have you tried turning antialiasing in the game off to see if that makes a difference? AA usually has a blur element to it and that is very much apparent in VR modded games. If you are playing at a really high resolution, it helps clear it up to a degree but if you turn it off and on it is still quite noticeable. Try switching from TAA to MSAA and even off just to see if that clears things up. Your headset ppd, lenses, res etc will also be a factor to a degree. I would avoid Ultra settings in favor of higher resolution, as they won't help much in this regard. Try lower settings to hit the highest resolution you can while keeping 60 or 90 fps depending on the rendering mode you are using, 1/3, 1/2 or Legacy.

Hi! just wondering, did anybody got it to work with a crappy pc? I have amd ryzen 7 7735hs and rtx 4060 laptop, I can start the game and play with high setting at a decent frame rate with low graphics the benchmark says 200fps avg, but as soon as I start with vr I get flatlined error so I'm assuming it's because of the low specs. But is it too crazy to think I should be able to run the game with vr at least with the lowest settings? because every single time it crashes when I run in vr

I'm using an Xbox gamepad to play CP2077 in VR, but for some reason, the triggers act like they're being held down even when I let go. So, cars won't stop accelerating, or when braking veer off into continuous reverse. And when I hit the gas again, the brake stays engaged causing the car to just rev in place. With guns, whole clips will get emptied even though I let go of the trigger. Hence, driving and shooting (the two core mechanics of this game) are greatly compromised. If I feather the triggers, I can kind of avoid it, but full squeeze, forget about it. I reverted to 2D with "_bak" and the issue went away. So...it's something in the mod. Any fixes or is anyone else having this issue?

Key is to set depth of field and motion blur off. Resolution you can set as high as possible with level of detail high too. Everything else set to low/med. I have a 4090 and can run 4k beautifully.

Hi, i have just installed mod and ran the .bat, no other messing around. I get in to cyberpunk and it looks terrible, everything is blurry and some areas are so bright everything is white. I have a 7900 xtx and running on the recommended settings loaded by the .bat file. Is there something I am missing? I am using a quest 3 via 5ghz wifi only 2 meters away from the router. Any ideas? the game is unplayable.

I think this is working as intended. Most people prefer that the HUD is not linked to head turning so that you can freely look around it. However when you have a gun drawn, the HUD instead is glued to your head motion this can mean looking at some details (the map in upper right) can be annoying. If you are finding that the HUD is no longer in front of you (I sometimes find it twisted 20-30 degrees to left or right) it means that you need to re centre your VR. For Luke's mod you do this by shaking your head. Give your head a couple of swift shakes left and right then hold it still looking straight forward. 1/4 second later the world will shift around so that this is your new centre point and the HUD will be properly aligned. Hope this helps.

I doubt it, I tried it with the DLSS mod for Elden Ring a while back just in case and no go. It makes sense that the GPU would freak out when trying to generate frames on top of AER though.

Hey man... It's this I think.... 2. If you notice during gameplay that there is extreme color banding (like the game was using an 8-bit palette), or if some textures appear very blurry and missing all detail, your shader cache has likely become corrupted. For some reason that happens often with this title. Luckily there is an easy workaround: quit the game, navigate to the "Documents\My Games\Far Cry 6" folder, and delete the one or two files there with weird names like "31-42-39-43-39-35-32-37-46-44-33-41-30-36-43-43_pipelines.bin". After that you can launch the game again, wait for it to rebuild the shaders in the splash screen, and everything should look okay afterwards.

Awe man, hey there is something about delete a temporary crash file in the far cry 6 or Ubisoft menu that fixes that. Fixed it for me. It was so weird looking. Read his specific far cry 6 instructions it's in his main post there somewhere. For sure though. It'll make a huge difference.

The wedding is coming up really quick, not sure how long the honeymoon is or even if there is a set amount of time. The next big release will probably be Forbidden West but possibly with Primal sandwiched in between the honeymoon and that. Not sure but I think that is partly why he pushed out New Dawn along with FC4, so people that are enjoying the FC series would have plenty to play in the meantime. I don't want to make him feel guilty for enjoying his honeymoon, so I haven't asked, other than where he is going :)

For me, the correct folder for the GOG installation is "bin/x64" inside the Cyberpunk 2077 folder. The relevant exe is the "Cyberpunk2077.exe" (the Cyberpunk 2077 folder for me only contains some launchers as exe files, but not the game binary itself).

Hello everyone, I'm getting this error when I run the bat file for Cyberpunk 2077 GOG version, althoughI have copied the files to the root folder where the game exe is located! What can I do to fix it please? ERROR: his folder does not seem to belong to any of the supported games. Please make sure that the mod zip archive is extracted to the very same folder where the main game executable is found, and not for example into subfolder. Aborting RealConfig press any key to continue...

Does the Realconfig file run successfully without any errors? What platform are you on, Steam, GOG? You will need to disable the Galaxy overlay if using GOG. Also, launch the game from your game library just like you are playing flat. I am also using a G2 mainly so should work fine. If you are using multiple headsets, make sure your OpenXR runtime is set to WMR. If none of that helps, please put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post the link here.

Did the config file run without any errors? Running the config file just installs the mod and changes game settings. You will need to run the game from your Steam library as if playing flat. make sure you are using the latest release attached to New Dawn post and not the Start Here post as the new release included a fix for the latest CP update.

I'm unable to get it working for Cyberpunk 2077 at all (it's the very latest CP I just purchased a couple of days ago from Steam). After running RealConfig.bat, then pressing Enter, nothing happens. I tried it while Oculus app was running and without it. I'm using Quest 2 with the Link cable. Graphics card is 4070Ti Super (16GB). I saw videos on youtube all saying that after running RealConfig, the game will start up automatically, but it doesn't happen for me. I also tried running it manually from Steam after running RealConfig but that just runs it as normal 2D mode with only the graphic settings changed for VR.

I got everything working for cyberpunk 2077 but after the character customisation screen it just crashes. I’m on a pico 4, I’ve tried using both VD and Streaming assistant which uses steam VR, both have the same outcome. I’ve even tried wired connection through Streaming assistant, same outcome again sadly. Need some pointers to the right direction. I’ve dropped Cyberpunk to the lowest presets, I’ve got an RTX 3080, 5900x.

Hit up Nexus mods and try Nova, Preem, Edge or my personal favorite; Realcolorr LUTs. Id start there. Be carefully with Reshade as the presets are made for the flat version so don't necessarily account for VR proximity of the image and they can eat up more performance in VR. Some of the newer shaders don't work with Luke's framework as well.

Hello. A bit of off topic. I am experiencing overexposure driving cars with interior cam in CP2077 (v2.1). It's basically pure white and must switch to external cam when it goes back to normal. Is it known issue? Thanks.

So good. I can't wait for the 3rd game! The only complaints I have about FW is that odd climbing limitations, though they make sense, and the lack of actual mounts. I was so excited to override a Claw Strider and then seriously disappointed when it was ultra slow. The Sun Wing will be fantastic in VR though.

P.s. Hope Dead Space Remake is on the to-do-list after the honeymoon ! as well as Last of Us 1 . Last of Us 2 seems to be launching later this year too so these 2 titles would be also a cracker in VR. in any case everything is glorious in VR !

Can you imagine getting forced into a game of life (board game) only to find out that it is played in chapters. What a nightmare. I hate that game as it is but I have to play it with my daughters once in a while. They need to make a life death and taxes edition to teach kids about real life. Add in divorce and car accidents.

Make sure you don't have motion blur or depth of field or anything like that on. FC5 should be less demanding than Cyberpunk. What kind of resolution are you playing at for FC5?

Awesome work as always! Thanks a bunch. I really want to enjoy FarCry5, but for some reason it’s very blurry, and the colours are bright and washed out, no matter what tweaking I do. I can play Cyberpunk just fine on my 4070ti

Nice one Luke. My head is still spinning from playing FC4 which is so good, who would of thought driving an ATV thru hoops around the countryside could be so much fun :D Just the very best Far Cry to come No. 3 Vaas in Vr is going to be great :P Thanks for these cool mods Luke :) And i wish you lots of happiness with your marriage.
