Happy holidays in VR with Far Cry 5!!!

Updates and known issues: scroll down to the end for the latest information.

As I anticipated to you some time ago, I'm trying to work my way backwards through the Far Cry series, and today is Father's day (if you never played this game before in 2D, you'll get what I mean after just a couple of cutscenes!).

Release 11.0.1 of the R.E.A.L. VR mod, attached at the end of the post, adds Far Cry 5 to the list of titles that we can play in VR. It also solves the remaining issues that were present in Cyberpunk 2077 since the latest official update (see the "Additional fixes" section below).

While I was modding Far Cry 5, I found out a few new ways to coax the Dunia engine to behave properly in VR. I backported (forward-ported?) those improvements to Far Cry 6, and now both games play much better in Virtual Reality than FC6 did when I first put out release 10.3.0 in early September.

Additional fixes

Cyberpunk 2077

Release 11.0.0 (and later) gets rid of the remaining issues with the HUD which I had already fixed in the past, but which official update 2.1 brought back to the game when playing in VR. Specifically, the phone menu and subtitles to dialogue and cutscenes will no longer get stuck in headlocked mode after interacting with NPCs during missions, and danger/alert markers above NPC heads will be fully visible again.

Far Cry 6

This release extends to the game a few important improvements that I could only come up with after studying and modding FC5. In particular:

Setup

I developed and tested the Far Cry 5 mod using the Ubisoft+ version of the game; other editions should also work, but if you encounter issues please upload your RealVR.log file somewhere so we can try to sort them out. Also, make sure that your video drivers are updated to the latest version, even though FC5 is an older game.

Run the game flat (not in VR) at least once, so that it can generate its config files and you can check that it works correctly. Then quit out of it and extract the mod archive into the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 5\bin_plus" folder if you have the Ubisoft+ subscription, or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\Far Cry 5\bin" if you bought the game from Ubisoft directly but without the subscription; note that you might need to customize the path if you own the game from a different store, but it will always be the one that contains the "FarCry5.exe" executable file.

Finally run RealConfig.bat. It will perform a few required operations (including the v-sync fix for NVIDIA drivers) and preselect graphics settings that are known to work well in VR. Remember that running RealConfig is mandatory; if you omit this step the mod will not work.

At this point, the next time you launch Far Cry 5 it should automatically display in your VR headset. You'll still need to tweak a few things in-game however, in order to get the best possible experience.

Setting the resolution

The most annoying thing with this FC5 conversion is setting the resolution at startup. A few steps are needed to make Far Cry 5 run properly in VR:

You'll know that the correct resolution is set because the window on the monitor will appear squashed vertically, but in the headset the aspect ratio will be correct. Also the R.E.A.L. VR overlay will report it as the current VR resolution.

The resolution will remain valid until you quit the game. On the next gameplay session, Far Cry 5 will remember your injected resolution, but it won't be automatically activated for some reason. What I do to get it back is quite simple (a little tedious, but you only have to do it once per play session):

Cutscenes

Cutscenes have top/bottom black bars, which I didn't disable because they work correctly in VR and sort of preserve the "cinematic" effect. There is no forced camera though: you can still look anywhere and the frame will follow your gaze.

The game is not heavy on cutscenes (most gameplay is based on combat and free-roaming, without too much handholding), but when cinematic portions are present, they are really intense and well implemented, with very few artifacts like missing props or broken animations. The intro sequence in particular is truly something that you'll want to add to your personal collection of "OMG did I really experience that in VR?"

Game options

You can set all graphics and gameplay options in the game menu according to your liking and to how powerful your GPU is, but there are a few settings that you must leave to the defaults preselected by RealConfig in order for the mod to work properly:

The following settings are preselected by RealConfig but it's possible that different values would still work correctly, although I'm not sure because I couldn't test them thoroughly:

I also recommend setting "HD Textures" to On unless you card is really low on video memory.

Input

You will want to use a gamepad to play Far Cry 5 (XInput-compatible controllers like the ones from Microsoft are the best for my mods). Keyboard and mouse sort of work too, but there might be issues, like mouse clicks activating other windows at random or some entries in the game menus being unreachable with the cursor; thus, in order to have a smooth experience, using a gamepad is highly recommended.

Don't worry about console-player syndrome: in my mods aiming is gaze-driven and extremely fast, intuitive and accurate, so even if you're used to playing FPS with your mouse, give your gamepad a chance ;-)

Gameplay

The Far Cry 5 mod fully supports 6 DoF tracking, i.e, the camera will follow your head rotation and movement. When your weapon is holstered, the HUD will float in space in front of you, so you can just look around in order to be able to read its full information, even the hints appearing on the sides and in the corners.

Gaze-based aiming works and the crosshair will always be properly aligned. To that effect, whenever you have a weapon drawn 6 DoF will be limited to 3 DoF, i.e., without positional tracking. For accurate, intuitive ADS (Aiming Down Sights), remember to set your dominant eye in the "FC5" tab of the mod overlay. Binoculars work too, and tagging the enemies also follows the direction of your gaze.

I disabled depth of field effects because usually they have no place in VR, and in Far Cry games they make weapon models look all blurry, especially when you aim down the sights. However, since I always believe in keeping as faithful to the original gameplay and design as possible, the "FC5" tab of the mod overlay will allow you to restore them if you so wish (game restart needed). Also, in the same tab you can change the world scale, from small adjustments to playing with dolls or giants, and even force the game to render to a 2D virtual screen in case you should find a section too hard to play in full VR.

Some animations look weird in virtual reality, like entering ladders or reviving allies.

All kinds of vehicles (ground, sea, air) work pretty well, with a new system that I also ported over to my FC6 mod. Freelook in VR when driving/piloting is completely decoupled from the game's own camera, so the game won't constantly try to realign your gaze with the vehicle's direction. More specifically: the final camera direction in VR will be a composition of the angle given by the game camera (which is controlled by the right thumbstick) and the orientation of your head. If you use your head to look around, the game camera will not be influenced, and you can freelook without any issues. If you rotate the game camera with your right thumbstick, what happens depends on the rotation amount: if you tweak the direction just a little, the game will "helpfully" realign the camera with the vehicle's direction after a couple of seconds. If instead you use the right thumbstick to rotate the camera by a large amount, then the game will not interfere with your decision. All of that is true when not holding a weapon: if you're shooting with a pistol from a vehicle, you will get gaze-based aiming and the game camera will just follow the orientation of your head.

I implemented a new detection technique for weapons like mounted guns that disables gaze tracking completely. Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, there is no way to swivel mounted guns in Far Cry games according to where the player is looking at, so it's best to disable gaze-based aiming completely in those situations. Mounted guns will just be fully controlled by the thumbstick, while the camera allows you to freelook. The crosshair won't be in the correct position, but it doesn't matter much because mounted guns give you a pretty clear idea where you're shooting at, just by watching where the bullets go.

Updates and known issues

Release 11.0.1, Dec 24: This hotfix should solve the problem of Far Cry 5 not entering VR for AMD graphics card users. Apparently the game has two separate code paths according to the GPU it runs on, and I had only fixed the one used for NVIDIA cards.

Steam Input: Some users have been encountering a bug where the game does not recognize certain inputs, like for instance braking while taxiing in a plane. Disabling Steam Input (globally or for the game) should take care of the problem.

Widescreen monitors: Just like with Far Cry 6, if you are using a desktop monitor resolution which is not 16:9 and the game appears to be using the wrong FOV (which results in the world distorting as you look from side to side), make sure to set your desktop to a 16:9 resolution before starting the game. Maybe there is an easier solution to this issue, but for now that's the only workaround we have found.

I just recently tried the mod for Far Cry 5 after playing Cyberpunk and Avatar which have worked amazing. Initially it worked fine albeit a bit blurry because of the resolution, but after trying the step to inject the resolution in the game, it just crashes upon start up. I reinstalled the game after deleting all of the files, and the game worked fine flat. But after using the config file to try VR again, I still have the same issue. Any ideas?

If i change the resolution i only get the resolution fore 1 eye. Still 2K and borderless not working at all! And yes i change in the mod than to menu multi times. Found the fix in profiles change it there.

After using the PPD slider in the Real overlay to create a custom resolution that will show up in the borderless options in the games video settings, you may need to also tab over and then back to the video settings for it to show up and be selectable. You may also need to exit out of the settings and back to the main menu and then go back into the video settings again for it to become selectable. A pain I know :(

I've read the guide/instructions numerous times, but no matter what I do, I can't get the resolution to go above 1920x1080 in the Borderless Video settings of the game. I've gone back and forth many times, adjusting in the game and the REAL VR Menu trying to boost it, but the game always stays at 1080p and never allows me to go higher which unfortunately makes it not worth playing. Sucks cause I bought the game specifically to use the VRE Mod with it. Any suggestions?

You need to set your runtime to Meta Link in the PC app. It is set as SteamVR which you don't need to use at all. Then launch from your game library as if playing flat, don't start SteamVR at all.

What headset you using? Can you put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post the link to it here please? On my G2 and Aero things do not look squished. It is locked at 16:9 in the game settings but that is not the actual ratio that should display to your headset.

Kind of stuck. When I set my monitor to borderless my injected resolution DOES appear, and it lets me set it, but I'm forced into a 16:9 aspect ratio, which squishes everything in the game, not just the menu. :(

Multiplayer is broken even if both are in VR. Fast traveling will fix it sometimes, but it is going to be a constant pain most likely. Probably won't be fixed any time soon as Luke will have a couple weeks to work on smaller fixes like PS5 controller support for Cyberpunk and then on to Forbidden West.

wondering if anyone else has tried this and has run into the same issues or found a fix - I've been loving FC5 in VR, all working great for me, and convinced a friend to buy it. We tried to play together with me running Luke's VR mod, but him playing flat screen, and we're able to join each other's game and load in fine but the head aiming was only letting me do up and down on the Y axis, if I turned my head left or right on X axis, it would turn my character. I tried for 2 minutes to play using my head for vertical aiming, and the right stick for left and right - but quickly noticed I would go insane anyone else try playing mixed flat and VR multiplayer? anyone tried BOTH players running the VR mod? any workaround ideas for that head aiming issue or maybe something that could be fixed in an update....? thanks as always for your hard work!

Looks like you are getting an Oculus error, and it is failing to initialize. You are not starting SteamVR at all right? How are you connecting your Quest? You should be able to disable Steam Input in the Steam controller options for the game to fix the breaks.

FC5: VR worked yesterday, then I tried fixing the breaks not working while driving glitch, by changing the controller layout. Not sure what I did, but now it only loads in flat screen. No, aiming is strictly head/gaze based. Do you get 60 fps while the game is active(not paused)? Make sure you do not have OpenXR Toolkit active. If you look in the overlay tab of the Real overlay, there should be a box to check that will show your fps while playing.

Another issue: there are lots of headset movements jittery. My system: i7 11700k, 64GB RAM, 3080Ti. High video graphics settings. I got 60fps shown in the overlay. If I kept headset still and use right stick to pan left and right, I got very smooth motions. But any head movement creates lots of jittery. Any settings to smooth out the headset tracking? Is there a setting to decouple headset aim, i.e headset just for looking around, aim using L & R sticks?

in FC5, initially it works fine, but after playing for awhile, pressing the map or menu buttons on controller will display map/menu on monitor, but headset went dark. Press map/menu button again, to turn off the map/menu, then the headset went live again. How do I fix it so map/menu will show on headset too? Thx

Is there a way to adjust head position in relative to body? in FC5, things are OK while playing standing, but sometimes, while sit down, the body is in front of the head. I can see a headless body in front of me.

Just lower all the game settings you can to increase the resolution. Have you tried Legacy and Mono rendering modes? Legacy has less overhead but will have motion jitter when things move past you and Mono is just the image from one eye so no Stereo 3d but still beats playing on a flat monitor. Have you tried out FC4 yet? There is always the other usual stuff to improve system performance like overclocking, high performance power plan, make sure you don't have other stuff running along side the game etc.

The easiest way to navigate the overlay is by using a controller for me. You can navigate the selected tab with the dpad and use bumpers while holding x(xbox) button. It is usually a combo of both triggers, both thumbsticks or start and pause together to open the overlay.

I have the same problem. Using Quest 3 running Virtual Desktop or Steam link. Running FC5 on steam. All latest Drivers. Unable to access the Real mod menu in FP5. The custom mouse pointer is unable to move into the right side of the screen, it can only navigate a small res area in the left upper corner.

The new option should show up in Windowed Borderless but you will need to set it with the ppd slider in the Real overlay. Is your monitor set to a 16:9 resolution? You will need to either back out of the options and then go back in for the custom res to show up or try using the bumper buttons to switch from and then back to the video option tab. 120fps seems like an unreasonable goal, you would be better off aiming for 90 fps and using 1/2 rendering mode to mimic a 180fps feeling. You could try switching to windowed or 1920x1080 res option to get the Real overlay within reach. The easiest way to navigate the overlay is by using a controller for me. Far Cry 5 I am having issues changing my resolution. The only rez options I have are 1920x1080 or 1280x720. Aspect ratio is 16:9. Another issue is I can't bring the RealVR menu up by pressing both triggers on my gamepad. I have to bring it up by hitting PAUSE on my keyboard. After it comes up, I see a very long triangle mouse marker AND a small RealVR mouse marker on the left side of the display. Both move but I can't get the RealVRMod mouse over to the RealVR menu. I'm running a RTX4080, 11600k with 32GB RAM. I am using Virtual Desktop with a Quest 3 wirelessly. Refresh rate on the headset is 120Hz, set to 120 fps. I've run benchmarks in all the different graphics settings and there is little or no difference. I have Cyberpunk 2077 and Horizon Zero Dawn and the graphics are incredible. I'm sure there is something I'm missing. I have the log file if somebody wants to see it, I just don't know where to upload it. Thanks

Not sure what Im doing wrong but these mods never work for me anymore ever since around the time Atomic Heart was added. Older ones used to work but nothing new. I follow instrustions to the letter. I pre load game once..put files where they go..and run real config bat. With Farcry 5 the game wont even open now. Its the steam version. Can someone help?

ey luke, miles morales even with flat screen fix data doesn´t and never run in vr to me. It immediately crashes after trying to start with an error report from playstation studios. Cyperpunk doesn´t work anymore neither like after new updates in the past. Much more frustrating, it NEVER worked out with dlss under vr glasses. In flat yes but never in vr and I could freak out. CP2077: Did patch 2.11 (by 31. Jan. 24) break the mod? I installed the latest REAL version, ran Config bat successfully, but the game starts flat; WMR doesn't change to OpenXR. Uh, just saw that Alex ran into the same problem...Us just unlucky that we just wanted to dive back in CP2077 VR the very moment the game got a new patch?

The libertad mod for FC 6 has the option to turn the cross hair to a small white dot. Won't help with ads but you could use that to aim without ads easier.

Is there a way change aiming down site to like a dot with these mods. So like in far cry 6 when you aim with the flamethrower you dont ADS it just zooms in a bit with a white dot. I find it very difficult with ADS and dont like closing one eye to do it. Are there any alternatives?

No, I can't say I do much actual turning while playing though. I just sit and turn with my gamepad. Luke doesn't really mod with room scale in mind, just K/M and gamepad. I can usually look around fine without any skipping parts. Could it be a boundary/VR environment issue? Do you have any odd lighting or dark areas in that spot? Have you tried adjusting your boundary to a slightly different area to see if that spot stays there?

K/M or Gamepad only. A 2060 is not very powerful in terms of something like CP in VR. It is kind of like taking a small image and then blowing it up to use as your monitor background. It is going to be really pixelated, so you have to increase the resolution of the image. Same holds for putting an immersive camera in the game where you are now looking at the image up close in front of your face. It wasn't designed with this in mind so pumping up resolution is necessary to get better quality. Lighting and colors will look different as well because of this. You will also notice much more small imperfections that are already present in the game like crappy LOD textures in the distance or any graininess or artifacts caused by lighting or shadow effects. Ray Tracing also will not look the same because again, we are looking at it way closer than intended or designed for. I was able to get a pretty decent experience when I had a 3080ti, so now that prices are dropping somewhat, any of the newer cards that perform at or above that card should be fine. Of course, VR can use all the graphical power you can throw at it and then some. Your headset will also be a factor, pumping up the resolution in a lower ppd heaset will only do so much. For instance, to reach even comparable quality with my Quest 3 compared to my G2 I have to go much higher in resolution which ends up costing more performance. Keep in mind that even if you have all the highest end stuff, it is never going to look exactly like a 4k monitor. You can get pretty close depending on the game in some regards but there are always going to be those tiny details that are somewhat off because the game was just not designed to be played this way. I'd say I can probably get on par with a solid 2k experience with my G2 and a 4090 and a bit of Reshade magic.

Hey community and thank you Luke Ross for these wonderful effrots. I am turning to you with a bug specificaly with FC5 - there is one fixed spot in my 360 degree view (if I rotate myself fully) where the camera "skips", it stutters into different position. Because of the spot being fixed in place I thought about the real world environment and covered all glass surfaces etc. but the issue is constant and persist. Sadly, it makes the experience hard to handle because getting immersed and rotating with my body makes me dizzy because of this one "skipping" spot. Did any of you encounter similar issue, please? I am trying to set up CP 2077. I am able to get in, but the resolution is pretty poor. I am pretty sure it is my GPU -- NVIDA RTX 2060. I have tried to cycle through multiple settings 1/2, 1/3 even mono its all pretty bad. I am good to drop some coin to upgrade my GPU. I want to get well past "good enough" do you have a suggestion? Also it appears that I need to use a keyboard or game pad, is that right? No VR controllers? TIA

Updated how? I would suggest first deciding if you want to have a smoother experience using AER2 (1/2,1/3) vs higher res experience using Legacy AER rendering mode. Then put all the settings on low and see what resolution you can push given your first choice. Then you can increase important settings like shadows etc slowly until you reach what looks and plays good to you. Nice work! Been really digging the Cyberpunk VR mod. Ran into a bit of a snag with a unstable camera twitching that occurs during some conversations with npcs. However its likely a result of the recent update CDPR put out post the 2.1 update. Let me know of if guys have similar issues. And plz let us know when you get around to FAR CRY 4!

It is a conflict between AER and AA (anti-aliasing) which is why it doesn't exist in Mono because that is just the render from one eye. You can disable AA but then you have lots of aliasing to deal with. Raising resolution is the best place to start and lower some settings as Ultra everything is probably unnecessary really and eats up tons of performance. There are some great videos on Youtube that go over CP performance settings and the performance impact vs visual quality of each one. You can also try out different forms of AA including switching DLSS versions and using Quality or DLAA to see which ones looks best. Some are better or worse than others. I haven't gotten around to testing them to see which one is best for VR currently. It also depends on the brightness and surrounding textures. The desert area will have the worst shimmering for instance. The games native TAA will have lots of shimmering, so I'd go the route of DLSS Quality or DLAA.

I hope I can ask something about CP2077 here... I am experiencing subtle shimmering and ghosting around contrasty edges in both 1/3 and 1/2 modes. Only Mono is clear. Is it casued be AER alghorythm? I did not notice it before on HP Reverb G2 nor Quest 2. But I can see it in Quest 3 so I am just wondering if it's just clear pancake lenses make me see it or is there something wrong? Btw, I can see same artefacts in HZD too. Setting in CP2077 ultra, no RT, DLSS quality or disabled. Using virtual desktop, tried several codecs. Thank you for advice.

Hey, does anyone else have problems in coop mode in FC6 and FC5. Here, looking around with the headset immersive cam) no longer works in horizontal. I only have this phenomenon outter vehicles, a restart can fix the problem from time to time. However, as soon as someone dies, it can occur again. Incidentally, it happens on both Players when both people are playing in co-op with VR.

It is an immersive camera added to the game, I believe it has it's own FOV. Not actually sure that you can change it. I have never felt like it was too small compared to other mods or native VR titles. I'll ask just in case.

Thank you very much for the answer! The FPS number is not the problem, I use a fairly powerful graphics card. I never really get motion sick using VR, in fact I use Vorpx a lot, so imagine my virtual legs! But there is only one thing that makes me dizzy, and besides, I never like the mechanics, it is turning the character with the stick, that is, turning without doing it myself. For this reason I always turn sitting in a swivel chair when using Vorpx or the mods. I seem to remember that when Luke modified RDR2 he included the option I asked for, so I'm sure he could get it for his community in his games. I would appreciate it if you told him, it would be an addition on par with his great mods. Thank you so much!

If you are using the default rendering mode of 1/3, make sure you are at least getting 60fps. You can also try switching to Legacy rendering mode to see if that helps. Make sure your fps is close to whatever HZ your headset is set to for Legacy. Do you get motion sickness in intense VR games? I used to get motion sickness fairly easy when I first started VR and had to build up a tolerance. Now I can get thrown all over the place and be fine. When Luke was working on Cyberpunk after the expansion there was a point in testing where the vehicle combat would make the camera spin around the car rapidly, felt like you were in a washing machine in VR, my stomach held up fine still. Building strong VR legs is a good idea if you plan to play a lot of PCVR mods. I will definitely pass on the suggestion though :) I actually get disappointed now when they make VR games or scenes less intense to account for motion sickness. I want all the intensity and chaos of a crash and not just a black screen.

I've been playing Elden Ring for a few days but I can't avoid feel the sensation of dizziness when turn the orientation with right stick, regardless of the camera chosen. Please, add a solution for Elden Ring where the character orientation is done according to the orientation of the HMD. hey Brandon just wondering if u got any tricks or work arounds for multiplayer with this mod here's what I found with some experimentation (i play vr my friend plays flat) We try to play the game first with the mod on just my end and hes able to join but breaks head tracking when he does, i then installed the mod on his computer but just made the resolution playable (so its not stretched for him), this worked but all hud elemnts were huge on his end(we disabled the hud) with that the game will work long as u dont fast travel, if you do fast travel it it breaks head tracking and u have to restart the game, its so close to multiplayer!!!

Hey everyone, love this mod and its worked great for me in most other games. Unfortunately, when playing Marvel's Spiderman Remastered, the game crashes whenever I try to bring up the R.E.A.L. overlay in game (either via the pause key or the controller shortcut). You have an odd CUDA error in the log where CUDA resources are being unmapped. I don't know much about it and this is the first time I have seen this but it probably is the root of the issue since once those resources are unmapped, they aren't able to be used until they are mapped again (according to google :) ) Do you have any kind of integrated graphics that may be interfering? Might be worth clearing out your GPU drivers with DDU and then installing the latest driver again. You could also just try running the config file again first if it only happens with this game. You are running in windowed borderless right? Do you have any custom Nvidia control panel settings outside of default, especially in the CUDA and OpenGL options? Maybe try restarting your system if you haven't yet :)

Hey Everyone! Another day - another vr issue ;( FAR CRY 5 is having troubles on loading screens. Basicly EVERY TIME when i load the map/die/fasttravel/bring a vehicle over etc (anything what makes screen go off for a little) breaks the game - cant play with such stutters, like 20-30fps. A quick workaround is to minimise game (alt+tab or win) and bring it back in, kind of resets it and the game work smooth till the next time. I tried different in game settings but after a week a give up. Yeah, Cyberpunk is one of the most cinematic immersive experiences in VR I think. The custom exotic cars are super fun to drive. The handling on them is so much better that I can speed from location to location pretty comfortably. The overall driving could be more fun but doing 260 in an Aston Martin down the desert road feels pretty awesome.

Reshade is already built in. You just need to drag a copy of the Reshade shaders folder into the game folder where you put the mod files, the same location as the dxgi.dll file. You will also have to go in and drag whatever Reshade fx you want to use into the main Reshade shaders folder instead of any of the subfolders in that folder. Hope that makes sense. Some of the newer stuff won't load and I will ask Luke about possibly updating to support the newer version.

Im playing FarCry 5 with LR mod with a 7900xt and so far I cant seem to get the graphics to have better resolution playing with a HTC VIVE PRO 2. After tweaking the settings listed above, is the only real way to play is with a 4090 and with a quest 3? All these youtubers I watch are using those setups with great resolutions. If thats not the case, am I missing something? Need help. Thanks.

I can link a vid by Dr. Greg where he shows how to install for Cyberpunk. It is similar for Far Cry, just different folder. The mod files will end up in the bin or binplus folder depending on if you are using Steam version or Ubisoft play/connect or whatever version. Just download version 11.0.1 from this Patreon post and put the files into that folder of the game. Run the config file and it should install. Make sure you have run the game at least once flat. For any other instructions on getting it running or setting resolution, just read the Patreon post for the release of the game. Good Day Everyone, So I am having an annoying issue with farcry 5 the reticle and basically the entire "screen" are canted about 30 degrees up. Making the top of the interface all but impossible to see as well as having to aim "Down" every time I shoot. Anyone have any suggestions? I've gone through both chats and tried most if not all of the things listed unfortunately to no avail. The MOD is amazing I'm loving it, it just would be so much better if I could see the direction I was going and being able to shoot straight... (Barring my own inadequacies on that front. lol) Thanks in advance for the help!

Just curious what people's experiences are with the Unreal Injector so far? I haven't had time to mess with it much yet. I did try Dead Island 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3 and neither of them worked very well out of the box unfortunately. Haven't messed with settings much yet though. I am sure it will be a process still before things are running smoothly. Anyone play anything yet that was amazing with UEVR?

You can rename dxgi.dll to dxgi_bak.dll to disable it. If you just want to delete everything, make sure to delete that file and everything with Real in the title. Might need to also go into the user files for the game if the mod creates its own settings file and delete that and then rename the original settings file back.

Ok figured it out. The game wouldn't let me select a higher resolution in the main menu, even though I picked "borderless." I had to start the game and then go to the settings again and only while playing the game it let me select 4k resolution.

It is a conflict between AA and AER essentially. You can try using different versions of DLSS/DLAA as they are somewhat different versions of TAA. 3.5.10 DLAA is pretty good but of course you will not have the performance boost of DLSS :( Increasing resolution is the best option for mitigating it but just depends on your rig and how high you can go. I play at 29ppd (G2) and it looks pretty good unless I am out in the desert which will always look bad because of the lighting I think.

Try using a different version of DLSS or DLAA instead as they will be somewhat different TAA implementations. You can also turn down or off the built in sharpener, deblur in the main tab of the overlay. It will also depend on if you are using 1/3, 1/2 or Legacy rendering mode as the first two will have some artifacts around the player when you rotate.

I used the Realmod about 1 year ago with Cyberpunk and the performance with oculus Airlink has got a lot worse. I use a 4070ti and was able to set the resolution to 4k+ and all the settings to high etc. and now it gets choppy. Plus artifects seem more pronounced. I found out that using Virtual Desktop helps a lot and it is almost as good as I had it but not yet. Even at higher resolutions the halo-like artifects around people are still there. I am hoping on performance/artifect improvements for the mod still. Is that in the works?

I would ignore Steam super sampling and just leave at 100% or 1 or whatever they use as the base (haven't looked at it since they updated). Just use the ppd slider in the Real overlay to set the resolution. If you are playing at a decently high resolution, you can also try turning off antialiasing which will help with the shimmering. I am playing at 28ppd and I don't have much aliasing without any AA at all. There is some sure, but the overall image is also much clearer, and I can see into the distance a lot better without the blur from TAA. Worth trying it out. If you are trying to go as high res as you can, you probably want to switch to Legacy rendering mode so you are not dealing with the extra overhead from 1/3 or 1/2 generating extra frames as well. Turning down game settings also helps as a lot of times there is minimal difference between high and ultra or even medium settings but can save you quite a bit of performance. I usually just turn off or low things that cause artifacts or visual issues because I like to prioritize visuals and get the cleanest, clearest picture quality I can. No matter what path you choose each game will require some tinkering to find a settling point you can enjoy. There are usually youtube videos on best settings for a game that will go over the performance and visual impact of each setting, they are a good resource. Most importantly, always expect to have some issues with mods in general. They are so rarely even close to perfect and spending tons of time trying to create a "perfect" experience can sometimes keep you from actually just enjoying the game and having fun. This is coming from someone who often gets caught in this trap. I have spent a ridiculous number of hours tinkering with Cyberpunk, probably more than I have actually playing the game.

Started FC6 (looks great overall). On my setup (Aero/4090/i9-13900K), I noticed that some IU graphics like mini-map, ammunition status, and objective information are faint/transparent/unreadable, unless REAL mod is forced into 2D mode. The display scale for these items is also smaller than the normal IU display area. Is there any way to obtain legible IU for all game information, without forcing 2D mode?

Ok folks...got this installed and run a bunch of tests. Got it running alright but looking for suggestions to improve. I'm rocking a 4080 and a 13600k so decent enough setup. I'm aiming for resolution over everything else (hate the shimmer) but keep slamming into my 16GB VRAM limit. I'm on a merry-go-round between game rez (via the mod), render setting and Steam super sampling rez. I know rez and textures are the biggest destroyers of VRAM, I'm just trying to find the optimum balance. out of the 3 options above, anyone got any suggestions on which one to favour? Render scale seems to have the biggest impact but also the greatest cost, steam SS the reverse of that. Anyone else with this kind of rig hit the sweet spot yet?

FC5 looks great works fine with KB+M but since I bought a controller specifically for 6 and used it for the entire game I thought it would work in 5 but no the game doesnt respond to any input. Steam version - Index. I'm happy using the KB&M but just thought I would mention it.

Make sure you don't have anything like depth of field active. Are you using TAA, it can be pretty blurry. If you are playing at a high ppd, try turning AA off or using (SMAA I think).

I'm enjoying the game a lot !!!!! Sometimes it even looks native VR, and other times, I see a blurred effect, less disturbing than with AER 1.0, I guess it depends on the framerate. Also, I have noticed pancake lenses are awesome for Flat2VR mods, you can read the HUDs even on unconfortable positions :-O

Loving the new mod. The story is far more compelling for me than FC6 and it's running nicely. But... Whenever i enter a menu or map I can expect 5-10 mins of severe framerate drops upon returning to the game. The same thing happened to a lesser extent in Cyberpunk but it's worse here. Feels like it's loading assets, but nothing is popping in at all and VRAM is well below max level according to the game. Any suggestions at all?(i7/3080/32GB/Quest3/19ppd/high settings over VD)

I have played almost all Lukeross mods just fine. Just bought Hogwards Legacy and spent 6 hours trying to get it to work. I really need help now. It boots up just fine, but it plays as if there's a 2D overlay over the game. When I look at characters or objects, I see double. It makes me go cross-eyed. It's very annoying and unplayable. Even in mono, this still is the case. I tried everything... Specs: Quest 3 Tried Airlink and VD 3080 PC

It will never look as good as flat at the same res unless you are using Mono rendering mode which is the render from one eye, so no Stereoscopic 3d. You can get it looking pretty good but 4k res in VR vs 4k flat will not look the same. I would definitely drop from 120fps and aim for 90 which will allow you to push PPD higher which will reduce shimmering around objects. One great thing about FC5 is you can also change AA from TAA which will have the worst shimmering. I just turn AA off personally but I am playing at 28ppd so I have very little aliasing at that resolution. Looks much clearer overall though. TAA is quite often blurry and makes things hard to see in the distance. Don't be afraid to turn down settings also as some of them aren't worth having on High/Ultra. Also depends on what rendering mode you are using of course. I am guessing you are using Legacy is you are hitting 120fps though.

Are you using a non-16:9 monitor? If so, then it will cause distortion or other issues. You will need to change it to a 16:9 ratio before starting the game. If that is not the case, you may be using the wrong runtime for your headset. What headset and runtime are you using? Any other mods? Also disable any overlays like Geforce, OpenXR toolkit etc.

No, the VR cam and character are separate so while your head is controlling the position of the VR cam, the character direction isn't changed by your head position. No way of changing that that I know of. You can kind of use the thumbstick to turn along with your head though.

Try lowering game settings and starting with something like 12ppd. Are you using any mods? What headset and runtime are you using?

You will have to go into the video options and use the dpad to switch between 1080p and your set resolution and then back out to the main menu. That usually fixes it for me without actually having to change resolution again. I don't even actually have to select 1080p, just move to it with the dpad and back to my actual resolution.

Hello Luke, I noticed that when playing games with Pimax Crystal, the height of my head depends on the height of my helmet when I turn it on. When I use the reset position in the mod, I can only reset the orientation in front, back, left, right, and cannot reset the height up and down. So, sometimes my head is on the ceiling, and sometimes my head is on the floor. Can this be resolved in mod, or do I need to contact Pimax company?

The VR Mod is working for me now but for some reason whenever I start it, it is unplayable. I cant even get through the menue properly, iit shows something between 2-50 fps and constant screen freezes.I managed to get into Far cry 5 one time but it also had screen freezes and was super pixalated.

Do you still have to adjust the resolution every time you start FC5 with the later mod 11-0-1? I'm almost finished FC6 and it works perfectly every time I start it up and I dont have to change anything. I have a higher end spec PC with RTX4070 but had to find the right compromise between visuals and performance. Its pretty clear and runs smooth except for the occasional shimmering when running.

Make sure you monitor is set to 16:9 aspect ratio. You can fix the game image not rendering fully by going into video settings and using the dpad to switch between 1080p and whatever other resolution you have under borderless. When you back out it should show up fully.

I have started playing Elden Ring and I would like to know if there is a way to rotate the body when rotating the vision. Let me explain, if I start walking forward, I move forward, but if I turn on my chair for example 90 degrees, the vision rotates, but the movement continues forward. Is there a way for the movement to go where I'm looking? I think is a thing very important for the inmersion and gameplay. Thank you so much!

Guys i want to go wireless and start using a gaming router in my room. The house is big and currently a normal router is downstairs. What do i need to do to get 5g in my room for vr ? Do i need to just change my normal router to a gaming one downstairs ? And then connect a ethernet cable ( a very long cable which i have ) to my gaming laptop ? Then whn connecting to my quest 2 headset/vive xr, it will then give me a 5g connection for pcvr gaming ? I got alot of people using the one router. Is two routers possible and does anyone no how ?? Happy Holidays everyone! Don't forget about the mods for FC5! Of course Nexus has mods but also there is a collection just like the Libertad mod for FC6. Some great things in there. Also highly recommend the increased ballistics mod as bullets travel more like paintballs in this game for some reason. Makes shooting things easier if the bullets actually travel like real bullets. It will consequently also make it easier to shoot you, which means you will have to use cover more often and actually plan out your attacks. :) https://downloads.fcmodding.com/fc5/ Grab the resistance mod for sure. https://www.nexusmods.com/farcry5/mods/92?tab=files I just use the ballistics main file to make bullets travel more accurately. Not sure how well the rest of them work. Any mods that change optics or camera or anything of that nature could mess up/conflict the with the Real mod. If you start having issues, disable other mods to see if they are the cause. Real mod already removed depth of field effects for weapons so no need for that one.

Had a lot of fun playing FC5 last night! The in game cut scenes are really intense and remind me of the ones in RE7 VR. It looks really good when cranking up the resolution higher than I probably should haha. I'm playing with a controller through Steam and for those who also have a blank controller mapping for reverse you could swap stop/go in menu for planes after taking off. For vehicles I found the alt method works where stop/go is controlled by thumbstick up and down similar to old school Halo controls.

That is a new one. Maybe try dragging the files into the bin folder again and replace just in case something went wrong. You are using the current version of Real and not and older one right? Should be 11 or 11.0.1 now.

That will depend on your definition of playable. You will not be able to push the resolution way up but definitely give it a shot. it is on sale for pretty cheap right now on Steam. It doesn't have DLSS either which sucks. I have never owned a Pimax headset and there are some special factors for running them with the mods. Make sure you use parallel projections and small fov. You can set the ppd which helps with the canted displays also. Luke tried to work with Pimax for a while but they refused to fix driver issues on their side so he gave up. Someone did say they made some progress on their drivers with the Crystal lately so maybe they are better now. Not sure really.

Are you using Oculus as your OpenXR runtime? Try switching to Oculus instead of auto in the Real overlay. Also make sure you don't have any latency/anti-lag software active like Nvidia reflex or in Nvidia control panel. That was giving me issues with VD lately. Also try using different render modes like Legacy if you are only using 1/3. I think the last update made some changes that effect Lukes mods differently but I have yet to actually go look and see what they changed. I'll do that after Christmas. I hope that helps though :) It has been quite a year! Merry Christmas to you as well and I hope you are able to enjoy your new Quest 3. Asgards Wrath 2 is pretty good if you haven't downloaded it yet. You should have a free copy with your Quest 3, just make sure you claim it soon. I don't know of a good guide or anything specific for Quest 3 and Luke's mods. There was a guide someone put together on the Flat2VR Discord in the CP Luke Ross channel but I haven't looked it over. It might be pretty good. If you find it helpful, let me know.

FC5 won't launch the mod overlay in game. Followed set up, purchased game and launching via SteamVR, game is displayed in full screen mode in quest 3 headset using virtual desktop, but cannot open mod overlay. Any ideas how to get mod overlay so I can set up borderless and get screen to fit to headset? Should mention game controller seems to be working correctly. Double clicking thumbsticks does not activate mod overlay.

Fay Cray 5 is an absolute blast in VR. The areas in the mountains are unbelivable, just as flying the planes and helicopters. I'm amazed that Reshade is built in too, I have a nice config to share btw.

I had the same issue. fixed it. I bet you have an ultrawide monitor. I do. This was causing this issue. Go to desktop, right click, Display settings, Change Display Resolution to 1920 by 1080 or a multiple of this. (2560x1440p for instance). Now enjoy farcry without the weird zoom effect.

Wasn't tested on the Epic version. Is the controller wired to the PC? I don't think Epic has any kind of real controller support options. The game is on sale for 9$ on Steam and might be on sale on Ubisoft store also. Just in case you can't get the controller to work in the end. You could possibly try adding the game to your Steam Library and running it through Steam to see if Steam Input helps.

First impressions with a 4090 The picture quality is fantastic, resolution 24-25 ist great, no shimmers like in FC6 or CP! My problem: The world appears as if viewed through a zoom. Everything seems too close and appears distorted. I even feel a little sick (normaly i have very strong VR legs). The picture distorts when I move my head to the side. To the left/right it's ok, up/down moderately but at an angle (ear towards shoulder) the whole world distorts extremely. Could it be the aspect ratio? I have a G2 but my monitor is a 21:9 not a 16:9 as (natively) recommended and i can not change this in settings.

Yeah, sucks when they cut corners in VR games by using a black screen during intense moments. I was playing Arizona Sunshine 2 with my cousin and we were about to go off a bridge in a train. I had my hands raised in excitement and then we just got a black screen :( and crashing sounds. Was so great when the Father just stares into your soul for an awkward amount of time.

I had to uninstall my RGB software that came with my MB or I would get locked at 64fps and my frame times would be all over the place. The game would randomly try to go up to 90fps after fast travel or something but then lock back to 64. Perhaps not the same thing but something could be messing with your fps somewhere. If you stand there for a while does it go up or just stay at 15-20? What headset are you using and how is it connected? Have you tried switching render modes in the overlay?

I’m having a strange bug with FC5. The game looks good and is running at around 90fps on average but every time I use a shop or fast travel, my fps tanks and runs at 15-20fps. Only way I can stop it is to close the game and start again. Any ideas why it’s doing this or this a known bug?

If you are using an Oculus headset, make sure you have your OpenXR runtime set as Oculus. You should not need SteamVR at all.

I cannot get Cyberpunk to run in VR for me at all. Installation completed with no errors, but the game refuses to launch in VR. Since steam desktop theater isn't actually a thing anymore, I wonder if it has something to do with that? If I launch it via steamvr it just shows it like a desktop window. Can anyone help? Edit: I'm trying to do this via VirtualDesktop as well, if that changes anything.

Maybe try resetting your boundary? If you have Christmas lights or anything like that up they can really mess with your VR boundary. My height goes up and down because of the Christmas tree in the living room right now.

Guys i’ve got issue with camera jump when i look down in Cyberpunk 2077. It looks like V’s height is immediatly lowered for like 10cm and when i look up it jumps to normal height. It’s kinda distracting. Any solution?

Having this same issue with both steam install and gamepass install. After a few seconds of dark screen however I get a crash to desktop. Launches fine in flat though! Even tried launching in flat first and then hitting launch in vr from there, no dice, same crash.

Can't get it to work on Steam install. Seems to almost work where the game runs but there's no image in the headset. On the desktop monitor the R.E.A.L VR overlay comes up at the main screen but I see nothing wearing the HMD even though I can see the game begin to run from in there. As soon as it starts the screen goes dark. Like a title card with no titles.

Are you putting the mod files in the bin folder? Did you get the game on Ubisoft store or Steam? Wouldn't hurt to make sure the user files for the game were created. The saves and settings files. I believe they are in Documents/My games folder.

New install of Far Cry 5 (Xbox Gamepass/Ubisoft Connect)... played about 20 min of the game and saved. Exited. Copied mod files to D:\GAMES\Far Cry 5\bin, ran .bat file and it said success. Not sure if it's the problem but not setting your window mode in the settings can cause issues, full screen in the video options can mangle the visuals or mess up the RealVr. I have noticed that it won't let me change the resolutions or change ppd if it's in full screen. Luke usually says what screen mode to select in video settings. Maybe?

Yeah, automatic weapons don't have free look while in a vehicle for now. They did but it ended up breaking the helicopter and wingsuit cam 😟

The escape at the start riding in passenger seat the gun goes to right stick mode and I can't hit a thing. I keep dying , I might have to remove dxgi and play those moments flat where you are dependant on right stick aiming. When it's couple with free look it messes with my aiming ability.

For anyone wondering how to holster your weapon you have to select your fist in the weapon wheel, if you go into keyboard bindings you can set one for hiding weapons, ive found binding this key to my xbox button on the series x controller using JoyToKey to be very handy.

Head aiming doesn't work in vehicles, the initial scene is very hard with gamepad aiming.

Yeah it never worked for me either, I just figured it wasn't a thing anymore because of the age of the game. Same with FC6 and the libertad mod there is another mod for 5 with tons of mod options including unlocking things that may not be available anymore. Not really sure though as I didnt uninstall the mod and try. You can also find silver bars throughout the game in safes.

It working amazing well! But the ingame shop stopped working. Is that because the scrpts are detected? I was hoping to buy some silver bars and buy a plane. Fying and jumping of with parachute is amazing!

This should solve some of those issues like looking around while flying and shooting in vehicles and zoom in binoculars and scopes. What other issues are you referring to?

Any recommended settings? Quest 3 & 4090. Everything looks shaky/grainy at 25ppd. Frame rate remains high but the shimmer is way higher than cp2077.

This is mentioned in the release post. When you start the game each time after setting the custom resolution, you will have to go into the video settings and switch back and forth between 1080p and the custom resolution with the Dpad. That should fix the screen when you back out to the main menu.
