Release 6.1.0 brings slow motion and camera distance control to FF7R!

It's time to play this game on another level!

Interface

Since release 6.1.0, the mod extends support for my Quick Menu to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

You can bring the Quick Menu up at all times during gameplay by pressing both thumbsticks  on the gamepad or Pause on the keyboard. Note for returning users: there is no "double trigger" or "Back+Start" gesture for this game.

The Quick Menu behaves in a very special way: it will freeze action while it's open, and it will immediately react to buttons or stick actions on the gamepad. Basically it's meant to be a collection of shortcuts that lets you make the most important changes to the VR mod configuration instantly (especially when muscle memory has set in and your fingers already know where to go), without navigating complex menus and breaking the flow of the game.

You can still access the traditional R.E.A.L. VR mod overlay, either by pressing A or Cross when in the Quick Menu, or by double-clicking on both thumbsticks instead of single-clicking. The full overlay is needed for instance if you want to change the world scale.

From the Quick Menu you can do all sorts of things like:

NOTE: I offer no "tourist" mode for FF7R. It's actually not needed, as the game's own Easy mode is a breeze to get through; furthermore, since battles are mandatory scripted events, tourist mode would not allow you to advance the story progression.

Special VR cameras

The original flat game only has one distant camera, which usually hovers 3.7 meters behind your character but gets even farther during combat or fast movement.

It's still selectable (although you can fine tune its position using the offsets shown in the Quick Menu), but the default for the VR mod is my "Closer" camera, which is about half the distance and won't swing up and down so wildly.

Then, if you want to actually be in the thick of action, there is the "R.E.A.L. close" camera shown in action in the video above, which gives you an over-the-shoulder view that allows you to see everything without feeling left behind.

First person doesn't seem to be possible, or sensible actually, for FF7R. The camera actually pushes away your character if it comes too close to it, and due to the way the lock-on mechanism works, your attacks usually go in a different direction from the one your character is facing. Besides, the ability (and necessity) to rapidly and frequently switch to other members of the party would make 1st person super-confusing, as you wouldn't know who you are during battle.

Presets

Presets are the final element of the Quick Menu. There are 4 independent presets, which can be fully customized by the user. For every preset you can select your favorite game speed, choose the camera type and the render mode.

With my defaults, the presets are intended for the following functions:

Again, the presets (like everything else in the Quick Menu) are meant for instant access, as if they were combos: for example, if you're exploring with the "Up" preset and suddenly find yourself under attack, the three-button combo Thumbsticks -> D-Pad Right will immediately slow down time and bring you to a more intense position near your character.

Slow (or fast!) motion

Slow motion can also be controlled manually, from a glacial 1:1000 to a ludicrous 10x speed :-)

Other changes

This release introduces a fully reworked hooking system that should make my mods less susceptible to interference from external programs, overlays, streaming utilities and so on. The new hooking system applies to all supported games, not only FF7R.

Your feedback is very welcome, both if this version makes the experience better for you and in case it should make it worse.

Enjoy!!!

Hello Oracle! Nopety nope nopes, Luke doesn't do motion controls. One point he likes to prove is that companies don't have to go through all the hassle of adding them in and could therefore include VR support for AAA games with just a bit of extra effort for their large team. Adding in motions controls would be another large project for one man on top of the already large project of adding in VR.

Will it be possible to add motion controller (such as quest 2 controller ) support to this mod?

Oracle Ofjamie

Hi Jan, the mod does not add this function. You can adjust camera settings in the mod overlay though and if the particular game you are playing has a zoom function it should work as intended.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Is there any way to zoom in/out the camera with mouse wheel or keyboard arrows?

Jan Malich

Thank you so much, Tomo!! Also for the heads-up about the sale, I will mention that in my next post <3

The game is on SALE now and I picked it up! Man - I was not into this game from the getgo but once fired up what a world the devs built! and once again what a great treat Luke to play this one in room scale VR. Top notch as always.

Tomo

Can you upload your RealVR64.log to pastebin.com? Let's see if it gives us any hints

HZD GOG version: the mod's interface interacts with the game menu, all controller button presses within the mod are taken by the menu as well, making it really hard to configure. I noticed this a while ago when I switched to HZD GOG. If you want to work on this, I can download a build from a repo and test it on my machine. Please and thank you :)

He said keep your fingers crossed for spider man next, so I am guessing that he is working on it. Nothing announced for sure yet though. There is a video on youtube of a Far Cry 3 VR mod that someone is working on. Looks like that project is still a ways off from release though.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Hey Luke, have you looked into implementing RealVR into the Far Cry series Dunia engine? That's the next game I'm personally itching for

Momentum

Am I the only one that cant help but let out childlike expressions of glee when summoning things like baby Chocobo? So darn cute!
