R.E.A.L. VR mod for Elden Ring

Welcome to Virtual Reality, o ye tarnished!!!

Quick setup

Installation is very simple:

May 7: The game had a minor update today. The mod still works fine, but you need to run RealConfig again in order to restore my custom launcher which gets overwritten by the official update.

Hotfix: I made a packaging mistake in the 4.0.4 release that broke both RDR2 and the saving of camera parameters in Elden Ring. Sorry for the mishap, please update to 4.0.5 and run RealConfig again!

As usual, this 4.0.5 release also supports all my other Patreon VR conversions: Red Dead Redemption 2, the Mafia: Definitive Edition trilogy, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Cyberpunk 2077.

Game settings

During gameplay you'll be able to change anything you wish in the system menus, except for Motion Blur which must always be Off. I also strongly recommend setting Camera Auto Rotation to Off, otherwise the game will forcibly turn your virtual head around as you walk.

Online/offline play

Remember that mods are never allowed for online multiplayer, so you'll be able to use VR only in single-player mode. No third-party utilities or manual configuration of any kind are needed, as my mod takes care of everything:

Before installing my VR conversion, please remove all other mods you might have installed for the game, especially if they have their own mechanism to disable EAC. I will try to resolve conflicts and make my mod cooperate with others in the future, but for the moment this release assumes that you have a pristine, untouched version of the game.

If you already played Elden Ring, your old 2D saved games will work without problems.

Interface

The big change in 4.0.x is the introduction of the Quick Menu, specific to Elden Ring:

You can bring it up at all times during gameplay by pressing Back+Start on the controller (Select+Start with a PS-style gamepad) or Pause on the keyboard. Note for returning users: there is no "double trigger" gesture for this game.

The Quick Menu behaves in a very special way: it will freeze action while it's open (something the original game never allows you to do, not even while you're navigating its own menus) and it will immediately react to buttons or stick actions on the gamepad. Basically it's meant to be a collection of shortcuts that lets you make the most important changes to the VR mod configuration instantly (especially when muscle memory has set in and your fingers already know where to go), without navigating complex menus and breaking the flow of the game.

You can still access the traditional R.E.A.L. VR mod overlay, either by pressing A or Cross when in the Quick Menu, or by double-clicking on Back+Start instead of single-clicking. The full overlay is needed if you want to set the automatic save backup interval for example, or change the world scale.

As you can see in the picture above, from the Quick Menu you can do all sorts of things like:

Special VR cameras

The original flat game only has one distant camera, which usually hovers 3.5 meters behind your character but gets even farther during combat or fast movement; the original camera also has the peculiarity of shooting up in the sky whenever you get close to a locked-on enemy, which I find extremely annoying in VR because it forces you to look down toward your feet to see the action, as if you were sitting on a drone.

I left it in for purists (although you can fine tune its position using the offsets shown in the Quick Menu), but the default for the VR mod is my "Closer" camera, which is about half the distance and won't swing up wildly every time you approach enemies.

Then, if you want to actually be in the thick of action, there is the "R.E.A.L. close" camera depicted in the screenshot above, which gives you an over-the-shoulder view that allows you to see everything without feeling left behind.

And last but not least, I implemented a full first-person camera, which can be selected at all times; I didn't make it the default choice however, because it's not for the faint of stomach! It is actually attached to the character's head, so it will react to everything the character does: jumping, crouching, rolling (the horizon will stay level though, like in my H:ZD mod), bobbing when you walk or run, parrying, feinting, falling... It really transports you into Elden Ring's world.

An important reminder if you want to play in first person: since your in-game character can be customized in a million different ways, and equipped with all kinds of armor and helmets, it is quite possible that the first person camera might not be in the perfect place for you. That's what the customizable offsets are for. You can fine tune each camera so that it's in your favorite position and it won't clip into anything; the offsets will be remembered when you switch cameras and also across different game sessions.

Presets

People have been worrying (with reason!) about the feasibility of this VR conversion, since Elden Ring relies on very fast combat, with a lot of rolling/dodging and wild camera movements. That's why this release introduces Presets, the final element of the Quick Menu. There are 4 independent presets, which can be fully customized by the user. For every preset you can select tourist mode on/off, control the game speed, choose the camera type and the render mode.

With my defaults, the presets are intended for the following functions:

Again, the presets (like everything else in the Quick Menu) are meant for instant access, as if they were combos: for example, if you're exploring in first person with the "Left" preset and suddenly find yourself attacked by a huge monster, the three-button combo Back+Start -> D-Pad Right will immediately slow down time and bring you to a more comfortable position behind your character.

Slow (or fast!) motion

If you want to turn your boss fights into epic slow-motion affairs, where you have all the time you need to study the adversary and choose your strategies, while simultaneously taking in every detail of the models and animations, you can customize a preset so that it uses the first person camera (perhaps in Mono mode for maximum fluidity even on weaker GPUs) at a time scale of around 0.2x to 0.5x. Or if you're a veteran of the series and want to be punished even harder, you can also set the speed to higher than 1x for an insane challenge ^_^

Known issues

As you can see from videos by famous YouTubers popping up on the web, the mod is already fully playable, but I still consider it very much a work in progress. In particular:

... and so on and so forth.

Update: some people (myself included) have a random issue where occasionally the RB or LB shoulder buttons on the gamepad will stop responding. It appears to be caused by the game losing track of what the mouse is doing in windowed mode. If that happens to you there's an easy workaround: just click inside the game window on the desktop with both the left and right mouse buttons, not necessarily at the same time. That will restore focus and resync what the game believes with the actual state of the buttons.

AMD GPUs

During alpha testing, one Patron could not get the mod to run on his AMD card. If you have an AMD GPU like the 6900 XT, please paste the contents of your RealVR64.log file on Pastebin.com and put the link in the comments. Even if the mod appears to be working fine for you, your log will still be very helpful for me to diagnose any AMD-specific problems.

Enjoy, and as always I do look forward to your feedback!!!

hey the tell me that i dont have realvr64.dll where i found it

Akiyuu

Elden ring not going into vr. I have Elden ring ver 1.06 and using Luke ross 10.4.1. Loaded the game flat. Then installed the unzipped files in the elden ring folder and ran the bat file successfully. Connected oculus to computer using oculus link. Then ran Elden ring and nothing happens in my oculus 3. NOTE: I just installed 10.4.1 with CP2077 with not problems. Able to play.

JackGleesom

On a crystal I can see black bars up and down, not sure what's happening here?

Boat Kettle Cheese

Any chance you can add a slider to add additional render resolution? on a 8k pimax it's extremely blurry even when runnig at 3096x3096

Andrés Ortega

i cant even start the game in vr, i did all the steps in your post but it just doesnt start in vr, it doesnt even give me the pop up saying if i want to start the game in vr, it just goes into steam theatre

sam cem

Hi Luke! Tried your Elden Ring VR mod, and it looks really gorgeous on my rig. But i was wondering, would it be possible to add an option/checkbox for head oriented direction (especially in 1st person mode) ? i'd love to be able to just turn around in my playspace and go toward the direction i'm looking at without using my right thumbstick to reorient myself

Kaffennheister

Hi Jaiden, are we talking Elden Ring? What are your computer specs and headset? Make sure your gpu driver is up to date and you have disabled Steam Theater as well as any other overlays or extra software you may be running(geforce, OpenXR Toolkit,)

Brandon(Post Maester)

Hello! I just decided to join the patreon to try this out and well... its not working. Everytime I open the game through steam it opens for a second, then goes to a weird page which Im pretty sure is the menu for the mod. Then shuts down before I can even close the first message. Dont want to have to keep messing around until it breaks. If anyone could help that'd be great :D

Jaiden Hughes

Thanks Andrei and Luke for the helps!

This is the 8.4.0 version which I'd advise you to use as it's the most stable: https://www.patreon.com/posts/start-here-68859691 And here is the latest, 9.0.3 version: https://www.patreon.com/posts/76191161 Both download links can be found at the bottom of the pages.

Andrei Silion

were is the download link i just paid 10 dollars and i cant find it anywhere please answer your patrons bro

nathan tull

Hi Andrei, do you have any motion smoothing or anything of that nature turned on? Also, make sure you do not have Vsync enabled.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Hey, recently installed this and is working fine expect for the constant screen flickering. Mostly when I turn the camera left or right, the screen tears itself apart. Seems like it's happening mostly in the right screen. The game otherwise runs at a steady fps on ultra settings. From what I can remember when installing the free GTA V mod, this is something native to your mods? I have an i7-6700 paired with a RTX 3060TI and I'm running the Index.

Andrei Silion

Hi Mickey, it's not gone!!! The links have been moved to the pinned "Start here" post, https://www.patreon.com/posts/68859691

LukeRoss

Hi, I can't seen to find the ELden RIng anywhere, is it gone?

Mickey Fickey

The blocking error that appears in the log is: ERROR: ovr_Initialize(&initParams) returned -3005 ("Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or a later operating system version is required.") Does that mean that you're still on Windows 7?

LukeRoss

Sorry just got home, here it is :-) https://pastebin.com/nCVieRzk

kile bim

Hi kile! Do you get a RealVR64.log file in your Elden Ring folder? If you do, please upload its contents to pastebin.com and put the link here so I can take a look

LukeRoss

Hi there, I am 100% sure I am doing something wrong but cant figure it out for the life of me. I verified elden rings files, unzipped realmod, placed it in the same folder as the eldenring.exe, ran realconfig, selected medium, its runs through creates the files then says to press any button to continue, I do that, then I click play, I select play in vr offline, then it opens on my desktop but cant seem to launch on my headset. I use an Oculus Quest 2, and I own Elden ring on Steam, let me know if you have any questions or if I can provide any additional information :-)

LukeRoss

where is the link

john uribe

After you've successfully run RealConfig, just launch the game normally from Steam

LukeRoss

The instructions in this post you're commenting to are still valid, even though the link to the mod has been moved

LukeRoss

Sprite

Do you have other mods that might be causing conflicts? Also, have you tried verifying the game files with Steam (or whatever store you own the game from)?

LukeRoss

No luck I'm afraid. I tried everything mentioned in the troubleshooting, but any time I launch the game and choose VR it opens up for a second and closes back up. Doesn't start in VR. I'm playing on a Quest 2 through Airlink. UPDATE: it's even worse now... after the troubleshooting, the game doesn't offer the VR start option anymore and when it tries to start it just gives an error message "Failed to launch".

Nicolo Valsasina

I don't know why Overwolf is causing all these problems... I will probably need to block it unless we can find out the root cause

LukeRoss

yea I did a bit ago turned out to be overwolf, im using a quest 2 with link

Deqwaz

Hi Deqwaz, same reply as I just gave one comment above: check out the Troubleshooting post, especially Q1, and look for programs that might be conflicting with the mod. What headset are you using?

LukeRoss

Hi! The mod does work, but something on your system might be interfering. There is a troubleshooting post at https://www.patreon.com/posts/66159572 that you might want to check out. Also, in case of problems it is always recommended to get rid of everything that might be causing conflicts: that includes other third-party mods and just to make sure I would also eliminate Virtual Desktop from the equation. When you get VR to work correctly, you can then reintroduce the other mods/utilities one at a time until you find what was causing the conflict

LukeRoss

Hi and welcome! All my mods support playing with the gamepad (preferred) or with KB/M. I choose not to implement motion controls: my reasoning is explained here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/52202067 and also here in more detail: https://www.patreon.com/posts/65366526

LukeRoss

I reinstalled the game bc I had other mods and on a clean install installed this mod, I launch the game and then it opens, the window shrinks, and then it closes, and thats it. I cant get in, what do i do

Deqwaz

got the mod and was really excited to use it. but it doesnt work. im on quest and am using virtual desktop streamer but when i open it on steamvr it shows the pop up for vr or no vr and when i press vr it doesnt show up on vr and just shows it on my pc with some stuff over it and im not sure how top fix (i have eac toggler but dont know how to uninstall) and really want to play.

xplosivemeows

New to installing mods, but is there any way to get it to work with the VR controllers, or is it only playable through the KBM / controller

Kami No Fluff

Hi Panda!! Unfortunately Trinus PSVR is not a configuration I can support... It might work, but if it doesn't I'm not sure I can do anything about it. Anyway, you could paste the contents of your RealVR64.log file to pastebin.com and put the link here. I will take a look at the log and see whether there's anything that seems wrong

LukeRoss

Hello I'm new in this community and I admit that your work is very surprising I don't understand why the devs don't hire you haha. So suddenly I took the latest version of the mode but I admit that I can't manage to set it correctly in my helmet. I use the "PSVR" playstaion headset with the Trinux software which is essential for its operation on PC and when I start the game it launches well with the mod but it does not launch in my headset which is however well recognized by SteamVR, do you think the Trinux software conflicts with your mod or did I do something wrong? PS: I am French and use a translator sorry for the mistakes. Have a good day/evening everyone!

Panda

Hi Jesse! What are your system specs and what headset are you using?

LukeRoss

I cant bring up the mod in Elden Ring unable to start VR

Jesse T

Hey Rasmus, see here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/65755853

LukeRoss

How do I uninstall the mod?

Errol246

EAC checks for any unauthorized dll's, there's no escaping it (even if you somehow managed to do that, you would just get a ban once connected). To allow players to go online my launcher actually removes the modified dxgi.dll from the game folder, and restores it when you want to play in VR.

LukeRoss

So what exactly does EAC check for? I kinda wonder in case I ever wanna coop with my buds on vanilla as I know vr disables EAC and can only be played single player, but I guess another way to phrase this is—“How does online mode disable the mod without taking the files out of the game in order to evade EAC?”

The Montanan Slinger

Hi Clément, it's likely a conflict with the EAC disabler. Do you have other mods installed?

LukeRoss

Hello, when i want start the game a windows say "file "RealVR64.dll" was not found. appear. I retry to instal the but same message. Tx

Clément Bostyn

Hi Eddy! That's not normal behavior. Are you using 4.1.1? What are your full system specs and headset? Also, it sounds like the Elden Ring game window is not in focus. Have you tried just clicking on it to bring it to the foreground?

LukeRoss

Hey Matthew, you didn't specify if you updated to the latest 4.1.1. If you already did and RealConfig gave you no errors, please paste the contents of your RealVR64.log file to pastebin.com and put the link here, I will check if anything looks wrong

LukeRoss

So I dont know what to do really. Luke kindly responded but I was just re directed to the installation instructions. Everything works on Cyberpunk just fine. Followed the same instructions, ran real config ect. However it just isnt working with Elden ring ( I have a 12900K, 3090 and 32 gb of DDR5 @ 6200mhz) Wether set to Ultra or Low in real config, the game loads in with me behind my character ( not first person) and mabey 3 frames per second if not 1 frame per second slide show. Ive unistalled and reinstalled the game twice, always run pancake first ( I dont touch any settings) and run around in the game for a minute. Any suggestions besides a link to " how to install " would be appreciated.

Matthew Kinsey

I just tried, the mod works, but it is not playable or watchable! The mouse is missing, so I cannot use the mouse to select to start the game, I have to peek on the monitor screen to use the mouse to start the game. The worst thing is the picture is freezing or lagging so much! I believe it is not due to the video card, I have 3070 and select the Medium setting, but it really only works if you stand and do not move, when you move, the whole view tearing apart and flashing somewhat. And I am not able to see the game manual when I push ESC

Eddy

FOV cannot be changed in VR, otherwise the world won't look stable. Mono will make all nearby objects appear too big, because your vision system expects that for nearby objects the disparity between the eyes should be smaller. Since in Mono everything has the same separation, your brain concludes that the objects must be distant and large, instead of close and small. Stereo is the only option that will give correct scale to close objects.

LukeRoss

Just use it yesterday and Love it !! Btw, anyway to change FOV in Mono mode ? i want to see more of my arm and my weapon in FPS but everything like it's zoom too much and look really big

Pao Ying Jeshian

Hi uninstall anticheat mod if you have one works for me

Tepoea Jml

I just cannot get this mod to work at all. I extract into the game folder, run the bat file, and I select U for Ultra since I have a 3090. When I try via the link cable with no Steam VR running and just the Oculus app, it's like the headset isn't even there and it just loads on the TV. When I try wireless with Remote Desktop, it has to use Steam VR right, but again it boots up but just stays minimized and the headset never triggers. Anyone know what might be happening? Should I not choose Ultra or did I miss a step? Also to ask, is there a certain way to launch it? Like if I'm using the Link cable and only the Oculus app running, should not open it by double clicking on the desktop icon? So lost

Shawn P Dobbins

Be sure to remove other mods that might be conflicting

LukeRoss

I think your 2060 can handle it! Unfortunately Elden Ring doesn't support DLSS for now, but they might add it as an update somewhere down the road

LukeRoss

Luke, when i try to run the game a box comes up asking to launch the game offline or online, if i choose offline the game prepares to launch but before launching goes back to the box that asks offline or online and just stays in that cycle. if I choose online the game launches on desktop but not in the headset - any idea how to fix?

Dan M

I love the RDR2 vr mod but it took allot of tweaking to get it running well ( really quite well for a VR Game ,especially of such scope and scale) On MY RTX 2060. How hardware intensive are the graphics in Elden Ring? Are they harder to run than the ones seen in Red dead or easier to run? Do you think my system can deal with it?

Rob Green

one time I got killed twice in a row, but when I got back to the initial place, my first runes were still there. And I thought, oh, wow, you don't lose the runes anymore when using the mod :). But then it didn't happen again, so it must have been a by-product. Still, I'm guessing you could still turn that into a feature, maybe? just an quality of life extra feature, of course. The mod is fantastic as it is, so far

petrus munteanu

Please see the latest Troubleshooting post!

LukeRoss

No other users are reporting issues with LOD, so it must be something specific to your system. Have you already removed all other mods and verified the game files?

LukeRoss

think i'm having this same issue using KBM... when I switch the bottom left corner's quick menu (flask area on the HUD) to the second set of items they don't stay in the regular bottom left corner position and move too far to the left to see them. Edit: Latest 4.1.1 Update fixed this! Thanks!

Paul Curtin

Hi there! I'm enjoying the gameplay with the Elden Ring mod, but the graphics are a shit-show. I have it maxed out and running fine on a 3090, but even at the highest settings, there's horrible LOD pop in just a few feet from my character. It's super bad and distracting. It literally looks better on a PS4. I downloaded a mod that replaced the regulation.bin file with one that is supposed to increase the LOD distance, but it doesn't seem to be working. Is this a conflict with your mod? I don't remember the game looking this bad flat. And I watch my friend play on PS4 all the time and it has way better draw distance and LODs.

Joseph Wall

Sure, the "R.E.A.L. VR" tab of the mod overlay has sliders to customize the HUD size. You can also change the font size in the "Overlay" tab

LukeRoss

Could you check if the new release fixes that?

LukeRoss

Which camera are you using?

LukeRoss

Are you using SteamVR? SteamVR doesn't allow you to change the mirror resolution, but it's pretty high to start with so that's not usually a problem

LukeRoss

Hi! Unfortunately for the moment I cannot really recommend using the Aero, due to the bugs you described. I reported all those issues (together with a few others) to Varjo on March 29 and I provided them with a self-contained test app. They replied that they were able to reproduce the issues and would turn them into actionable internal bugs, but since then I haven't heard from them. I imagine they have other priorities, but perhaps you might try to contact them to check if there's been any progress

LukeRoss

Do you get a RealVR64.log file in the Game folder? If you do, can you paste its contents on pastebin.com and put the link here?

LukeRoss

I recommend not using SteamVR with the Quest 2! The mod has native support for Oculus. Please try again without loading SteamVR

LukeRoss

Please check out the "Pimax users" section in this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/63892259 It's for CP2077 but you'll need to do the same for Elden Ring

LukeRoss

What fps are you getting from the mod's internal fps counter?

LukeRoss

It's always one archive for all supported games!

LukeRoss

VR won't boot up and elden ring crashes when booting after a few seconds, anyone able to help?

Stealthy

is the 4.0.5.zip just for Elden Ring or is it for Cyber punk too?

Matthew Kinsey

Are there any tips/settings to improve performance for the 3D mode using the mod or other settings like in nvidia's control panel? trying to get this running as smooth as possible on a 3080 Ti but the FPS drops too much when turning the camera in 3D :(

Paul Curtin

Thanks for your hard work and effort. I can't wait to try this in VR but I'm having a problem where it's not launching with steamVR. After I click the offline mode it just opens a window on the monitor but not in the headset. I'm using a Pimax5k btw.

FancyJustice

Same Key at good price?

Alessandro D'Amico

Is it possible to make the menu size and hud bigger ? Visually impaired can’t see small letters

I'm having lots of issues. Will try this out but where can I find this ASW setting? I'm a noob. thanks,

Chuong Phung

Loaded in the Updated VR Mod 4.0.5 into Mafia 3 and the resolution is 1280 X 720, terrible, anyway to change resolution? how do I do that?

Spankhamster

Are you using steam? Just click ok and vr will start.

Solomon Ginsberg

Assuming Airlink works on the Quest 1, isn't that preferable to VD anyway? It always seemed faster to me

Bob Douglass

Excuse me, after I install the VR mod and open Elden Ring, he will say that the game cannot use vr. What is going on?

Edward Shen

minor issue on the controller side: when keeping the Y button pressed the second set of shortcuts should stay on the screen - left corner; instead they show up briefly and then disappear. Tested it on flat screen, it works fine

petrus munteanu

Hello, Luke. I just started playing rdr2 yesterday. I encountered two problems. First, every time I open DLSS in the game settings, I flash back. Second, when I open the menu in the game, it will slightly spend a few seconds on the screen. Once, it even spent the whole picture, and I can't see anything. Are there any solutions to these two problems? Thank you!

野盖 常

What video card you using..steamvr is still 10fps slower for me than oculus emulation. I have 3090. I get black lines in occulus emulation mode but not in steam VR mode. I use Oculus mode cause I rather run at higher frame rate. I noticed that same thing when trying the hex edit too so I'm living with the lines for now.

Andy K.

Congratulations on another great release Luke! I still suck at Elden Ring but I guess that's beyond the scope of your mod to fix :) One thing...playing wirelessly over VD seems rough again this time. It seemed to be working really well on your other mods after you fixed it but is noticeably slower now than over the the link cable in Elden ring. Is VD perhaps broken again? (Quest1/3080/i7-10700/32GB) Thanks again for your work the Lands between look just as Epic as I'd imagined in VR.

Billy Bloggs

I am getting regular crashes when teleporting either when killed or voluntarily

Dave Grandon

It's working for me but i can't realy play until i can fix the blur when rotating the camera.

Hanan Gabai

Quick question: I wanted to feed the VR Image into OBS via the option inside the REAL mod, however, if I look up how it has to be setup in previous posts, it states that you have to enable the checkbox, set an eye and set a Sourfce resolution - however, I dont have the source resolution option available :S So I have issues to get a nice picture :S Someone else with this problem? Or am I missing sth.?

LetsPlayGoodGames

Hello luke should we update cyberpunk also with this version?

Carl Adoni

If you have win11 and use airlink, there is a known performance quirk that requires either giving a debug window focus via the diagnostic tool or tweaking some audio/audio mirroring settings. The latter is obviously more convenient. It worked for me. It might for you as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/s8rs0n/another_win11_link_workaround_no_server_console/

sharilah

hey Luke sry to bother, for pimax how do i do the pi_server HxD edit again now after the pitool update on C97CB0 there aint no 04 anymore to change to 03,its 8D and the black hud line appeared again, one thing that happened is pimax did fix the driver issue with steamvr a 2 3 fps difference before it was 10 fps,but the line appears now even in steamvr and needs that fix i guess.

Cazanu

well, it works! framerate/frametimes are motion sickness inducing, but I have a suspicion that is due to a bad config on my end. Using an oculus quest and windows 11, is it better to do air link or virtual desktop?

kyle turner

Hi Luke, Very excited to find the right settings so that I can do a decent playthrough. I'm currently trying to figure out some issues with using this with a Varjo Aero. I notice that I get a lot of stutters/jittering of the UI /Quick Menu running with the SteamVR mode and that the game is not as performant, however the menus and UI are much sharper/clearer (I've been trying various settings from Low to High and messing with changing the resolution to find a comfortable mode). However, when I switch to OpenXR for the renderer I get better performance in the game, however the UI is far blurrier / harder to read and sometimes even appears to be flickering (even in R.E.A.L. mode as opposed to AER mode). I'm using an RTX 3080, so I'm trying to find the sweet spot here that lets me have access to the Varjo Aero's clarity while having the game get decent FPS. I may give up on this and switch over to my Quest and see if things are more comfortable and the UI / Quick Menu is less stuttery there. Any thoughts or ideas on things I could do to make the Quick Menu less blurry / low res when in OpenXR mode or to improve the UI stuttering / jitter in SteamVR mode? Thanks for all of the work you've done with this!

JB2

SHEPARD TO THE BLIND THIS GUY!!! Wow man :-) another amazing job. This is so cool. Wow. Thank you!

zer0

Holy Chet, this is it bros. :) Get the puke buckets ready, I'm playing all nightttt.

TempUser11

If people are having launching problems or a blank display in the HMD or just glitched out images in general, like I did, the issue *could* be related to having ASW or motion smoothing enabled. I disabled it and it worked fine. This seems like a massive issue for Elden Ring in VR, whereas the other games supported by the RealVR framework don't act so quirky when ASW/motion smoothing is accidentally left on.

sharilah

I'm using this mod and it crashes as soon as I start Elden Ring. How can I start it?

クラシス

Hey Luke. So the mod installed fine but when I boot the game, I select play in VR (offline mode) and the game loads on my TV but nothing in the headset. And when the game loads on the TV it seems like freezes when quick assist menu for you mod appears there. I'm on a Quest 2 connected via the link cable and both the oculus app and steam VR running. Any ideas on what's wrong?

I was amazed once more by Elden's mod, at first, the game on my monitor was dark and playing in 4K on a flat panel did not really cut it, There is not that kind of level of texture details like you see in Cyberpunk, so I was quite disappointed by the flat screen experience to be honest but then your mod did the magic. Once you are immersed into VR, you may lose a bit of resolution but that is just that impressionist feel you need to get the best effects in my opinion. That low light atmosphere is much better viewed in a VR headset. (I use the Valve Index) I did not notice the camera issues reported by someone else although I did encounter quite a few monsters and bosses. I was suddenly transported into this magic realm and you could see in the distance the castle and suddenly the experience becomes as good as Cyberpunk if not better because of this impressionist effect. Truly amazing. I have had a few issues but unrelated to VR but I spent a good 2 hours in that 4th dimension and I just cannot play that game flat, my monitor struggles to manage the dark scenes, it is an IPS panel that runs at 60 Hz. Thanks again for this amazing mod, that is how that game should be experienced in my opinion, I played it at 1920 px. I want to fast forward time, get myself a GPU that is 10 times more powerful, bump up the resolution a bit but that is amazing to be able to experience this level of gaming in 2022, I am a time traveller.

Rod

Thank you for the detailed report about the camera losing its anchor: I will look into that! Can you confirm that when it misbehaves it always snaps to the character's midsection? Or did you witness it doing other weird things like stopping in midair or snapping onto NPCs?

LukeRoss

Yes, exactly. In fact the issue was first reported (and solved, before the latest update) by the widescreen gaming community!

LukeRoss

So I just played about 3 hours only in First Person Mode and heres what I think. First of all; Its awesome being inside Elden Rings world and getting to see the monsters and enemies face to face. The combat is about what I expected after using First Person Mods for Dark Souls 2, 3, and Sekiro with Vorpx to play in VR. It is chaotic and ridiculous, but if youre the type of person that enjoys a fun challenge, theres nothing wrong with what the mod is doing in regards to combat. So I give it an A on that. My big issue I kept running into, however, is the 1st person camera "Desyncing" after Deaths or even after just jumping or moving around sometimes and you HAVE to go back to a Bonfire to 'reset' the camera, look at it from an angle without your character model on screen, rest and the camera will fix itself... Obviously this can be a problem when in the middle of a dungeon or something. So that needs looked at. Thats the most 'glaring' issue I ran into today. Good work on this, its alot of fun. Going to be plugging back into it in just a few minutes. lol. Oh yeah - no clue how, but I somehow got the Swordmanship mod to work with the Sekiro type Parry in the VR mod. Dont ask me how, I was replacing files all day trying to get it to work and suddenly it just did lol. Thanks for this, its alot of fun. I think the best solution to the character models getting in the way in "First Person" mode would be to "Hide" the characters head and maybe chest, but keep the arms and legs in game. When the First Person view desynced, it would have me like inside my character's stomach area. Just wanted to let you know what was happening.

Jon Travolta

Interesting - never noticed it before in pancake mode, but like you say VR does magnify things significantly. The main reason we've never noticed it before is because we haven't had the luxury of turning our heads to see to the sides and behind us. If you keep the enemies in the central window (front field of view) and use the right stick to turn you are likely to not see the slow animations. It is because we are turning out heads away from where the character is facing (similar to an ultra wide monitor) that the issue appears.

Grocs

Yes, Steam Input is just weird. I've given up trying to understand it. For some people it needs to be on, for others it needs to be off. It hijacks everything without giving any clue as to what is doing under the hood

LukeRoss

It's a game "feature" unfortunately. It's there in 2D too, although less visible because in VR everything is magnified. I just discovered today there was a mod to get rid of it (Google "IncreaseAnimationDistance") but it's been broken by the latest game update

LukeRoss

Great work Luke - thanks. I am seeing this weird issue where enemies in the distance seem to be running at a few frames per second (not all the time - just randomly), while the rest of the game (enemies near and the world) is fine at the usual 60+ fps. This is happening at the first site of grace where you meet Melina (the first ruins you encounter before the main gate).

Grocs

This is my first R.E.A.L. Mod, and it seems great! But I had some controller issues: (using 8BitDo Pro 2 with 8BitDo USB Adapter 2 in XInput mode (Steam input sees it as an XB1 controller). Holding Back+Start spams the menu, as with any other menu input with the controller, and I had to turn Steam Input off to get the game/REAL menu to see my controller at all!

Rush Robbins

Perhaps from some other modders, but that's not what I do. See here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/65366526 for an interview where I explain my position on the matter

LukeRoss

Great work, but now im too curious. There will be any way to use oculus controllers and get remote hands like other vr mods like Resident evil?

Luca Giuseppe Buttacavoli

Three possible ways: 1. you can just choose online (which is the default mode for the game); or 2. have Steam "Verify integrity of game files" which will restore the original launcher; or 3. restore it yourself by deleting my "start_protected_game.exe" and renaming the original "start_protected_game_ori.exe" to "start_protected_game.exe"

LukeRoss

Not for now, although Brian Tate said that he might take a look at the animations to see if anything can be done

LukeRoss

Same here..nice if there were an option to rotate body with head on right thumb stick

Andy K.

how do I uninstall it? I deleted the files I copied, but I still get that windows when I start about chossing offline vr or online.

Prexxuss

So I extracted the MOD into the elden ring game folder like instructed and ran Realconfig. Game menu starts up fine in headset but when I load in its frozen and im just standing behind my character. also I extracted the 4.0.5 package to CB 2077 and it borked the game it seems, resolution was in tatters and the game options are now fullscreen resoltuions so I tried reinstalling the old 3.3.1 package and ran realconfig again and have the same issue in CB 2077 with pixelated graphic and only fullscreen resolution options.......

Matthew Kinsey

so far I love the mod. It's only the head bobbing I'm not comfortable with. I would rather play it in first person, but it's quite tiring. I'm not sure if anything can be done about it, probably not?

petrus munteanu

So one issue I'm having is the first person camera doesn't lock onto the character. When I rotate the right thumb stick the character stays stationary while the camera can rotate 360 degrees making it difficult to know which way I'm facing during combat

Jesse

None of the creatures I encounter fight back, they scream of pain but do nothing about it. A giant... giant, a giant squid, some natives on the rocks, eagles, bats. None of them defend themselves. Is there some setting I'm missing??? EDIT: had tourist mode on…

Solomon Ginsberg

just one word...awesome!

Francisco Torres

It's borderline. You might be able to run the game on Low settings if you dial down the resolution a bit

LukeRoss

Thanks for the quick fix on the camera not staying locked in! Appreciate you working on that so fast! Happy I joined your Patreon

Jon Travolta

make sure you run the config file included and make sure steamVR is running before launching. if you have not played the game before you have to launch it at least once in vanilla

zachary webster

@luke Can't get it to start in VR. Do I need clean install?

Black Aesop

I admit, i have been sceptical because the game is notorious for performance issues, but i am positively suprised. Framerate and graphical fidelity are good, no flimmering or ghosting effects (like in cyberpunk i.e.) but not quiet as sharp, as in RDR2 since the dlss fix (still hoping for a dlss fix in cyberpunk). Great experience so far - and i like the quick menue!

Critical

I’m a newb concerning computers I have am Alienware laptop CPU core i7 9750h 12 core cpu GeForce thx 1660ti. Is that too weak to run vr games this way?

aaron milstead

I have the space if needed btw. Just curious.

Black Aesop

I'm sure this has been asked but, Should I make a separate folder for the VR mod? I want to use my current save but be able to go from 2d to VR w/ out having to change settings every time.

Black Aesop

Thanks! Also check out the camera sliders for the close cameras if you want to pull back a bit

LukeRoss

Haha yes, it's insane how they all use that for every video :-P

LukeRoss

That's awesome Caddie, thank you for the feedback!

LukeRoss

Nice catch! I was bothered by the 2 fps animations for not-even-so-distant NPCs but didn't know there was already a mod fixing that :-D

LukeRoss

It's VR slang for playing in 2D on a flat screen :-D

LukeRoss

im new to this. what is pancake?

Alex

Just curious Luke, do you already have a setting planned that does something like what this mod does? https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/349 Was curious of the performance impact of increasing that.

Brian Tate

Actually, I stopped playing Elden Rind because I didn't enjoy it. With this mod I've started again and I think it's just fantastic. Thanks for that, it's a whole new game!

Caddie

It is fun and the TAA is better in this game, less shimmery. Not anywhere near the level of immersion and feel of Cyberpunk though in my opinion. Combat is not bad if you are fighting one or two enemies in first person but a group is just too chaotic. Still nice work! The addition of different camera options is great. Anyone else get kinda annoyed by all the youtube reviewers saying everything is "insane"? Makes me just want to stop watching their reviews sometimes.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Nice that quick menu, genious !!!

Cercata

It works great! Even reshade options work and the result is breathtaking! Makes the image crisp and clear. Although I have to run it in mono because 3D makes it janky. Also close combat is jarring, so I am playing sorcerer :D

Alexander Walter

Thank you so much for this mod. Will keep me plenty busy untill you create the next big adventure in vr.

Jesse

Thanks for the report, Jon! Does everything else save? Like, if you quit the game with the game speed set to 0.9, is it still set to 0.9 the next time you launch? Or does everything reset every time?

LukeRoss

The HUD won't headlock in Elden Ring, because that would interfere with the lock-on mechanism that you're already supposed to be using for basically all combat in this game. There shouldn't be any black bar, do you see it in the headset or the desktop window? Are you running any other mods?

LukeRoss

To be honest I've never been a fan of the "steady cam gliding on ice" effect that Valve for instance seems to love for their games. Also, the movements of the character in Elden Ring are so fast, especially during combat, that a smoothed camera would clip continuously. Maybe in a future version I will look into smoothing out the head bobbing. If anyone wants to take a stab at modifying the actual animations, that would be awesome, but it's not my bread and butter :-)

LukeRoss

I never saw that issue during testing. Does it crash the moment when you open the door after taking the elevator up?

LukeRoss

I've started my second week waiting for this mod! It looked very good, worked great. After meeting Trent, when I try to leave the cave, the game ends. Even if I drop down and go the tutorial route, the game ends just before I get outside. I am playing on i9 10900kf+rtx3080, Q2+VDorAL, medium settings. Please help...

とり もも

Amazing work!! One thing that Ashok did for the RE VR mods is to smooth out the actual animations for first person (since it's a third person game). That made a HUGE difference and I think it would for Elden Ring too (example: https://youtu.be/OXY7WNW8sRA ) Luke, could this be done programmatically do you think or would we need to edit the actual animations like we did for Resident Evil VR?

Brian Tate

Im having an issue where I set the camera up to the proper parameters for First Person Mode (So that my characters body doesnt clip through while sprinting and rolling but I can still see my sword)... but it 'resets' those parameters each time I start the game. Is there any way to make them locked in? I even checked the box off to lock the parameters, but on each start up, my camera is back to default and I have to tweak it again to get it to the right spot. Id appreciate any help on this. Thanks for the mod, seems pretty great so far!

Jon Travolta

Thank you for the words of praise and the longtime support, Srivardhan! Yes, I'll also confess I'm a huge fan of the sense of scale that VR gives. Often, when I'm supposed to be playing, I just stand there like a tourist on his first day in Manhattan and look up and about with my tongue lolling out... then an NPC comes and beats the crap out of me []-D

LukeRoss

Hi, Luke First of all, Thank you for making Eldenring VR mod. I have a question. There is a Very small black bar at the top and bottom of the screen. is there a way to fix it? And unlike your other work, UI doesn't follow my head. is it still working?

DJ Lynch

The game window needs to be in focus for the gamepad to be active. Also try toggling Steam Input for the game

LukeRoss

Mmm... the Steam cloud machinery is probably getting confused by the offline playing. Try disabling "Keep games saved in the Steam Cloud for ELDEN RING" in the GENERAL page of the Steam properties for the game, and if that isn't enough also try deleting "steam_autocloud.vdf" in the %AppData%\EldenRing\[your Profile Id] folder

LukeRoss

Thank you for the feedback WIG, yes, I was going for the "I'm right here beside you" effect :-D

LukeRoss

Sure, all my mods implement the world scale slider!

LukeRoss

Awesome, thank you for reporting back on both AMD and Pimax :-)

LukeRoss

Hey great mod Luke...thank you so much for all your hard work...the mod worked at first for me but the game crashed as soon as I tried fast traveling....and now the mod won't work for me at all unfortunately....it keeps saying that there's a Steam cloud error, but when I try loading the game regularly in regular online mode,it works fine...even without your mod,my game keeps crashing for some reason,do you have any suggestions?

TheReclusiveGamer

This reminds me of senuas sacrifice, how I can position the camera right behind just off centre and everything is full size. Apparently this game is huge too with loads to do. Thank you Luke everything is working well and the new quick menu is a super helpful.

WIG

Super exited to play this when I get off work. I have one question. Does this have a world shrink option like Horizon dawn had when you can shrink the world and character? Because that's what I really enjoyed about that horizon zero dawn mod.

Nabi Hussaini

Hey, thank you for your hard continous work to bring us those awesome mods :) Running the ER Mod on an 6900 XT and had no issues at all, clean install and everything worked as intended. Switched renderer to steam vr to get rid of HUD Edges on Pimax 8KX and got ~60 fps on overworld when using the ultrapreset when installing the mod (Have tweak that a bit i guess) Looks like for Pimax User they finally fixed the steamvr driver for their headsets so the workaround is not neccessary anymore (can confirm this for HZD and ER) Sound is fine in stereo as well, no distortions anymore since the pimax update. Greetings from Germany :)

LetsPlayGoodGames

I'm having trouble getting the game to register any input from my xbox series controller. Seems to be working fine otherwise, was a super easy install and initial looks were amazing. Gotta get an early night so will have to try troubleshooting the controller issues tomorrow :( Thank you Luke!!

Domenic Colpo

Thank you so much Luke! As always, this isn't just a mod that lets you play one of the best reviewed open world games of all time in VR but with your flair, those QOL improvements, like being able to slow the game down, take a step back and watch the creature and character work in detail, the presets. As a big admirer of Shadow of the colossus and The Last guardian games, I'm really looking forward to that sense of scale and wonder that Elden ring could inspire in VR thanks to your mod and features. Megalophobia/mania time! You're so freaking awesome!

Srivardhan

Haha, as usual you don't read my post, like, AT ALL

LukeRoss

I literary buy games just so can see your mods.

Rich_DCC

Is their a way to toggle between first person and 3rd person? I want to play first person on horse back and 3rd person on foot. Too much clipping for me in first person on foot. Runs and looks good for me.

Nicky Butler

Cheers Luke - will definitely be giving this a go over the weekend.

Grocs

It seems to be a game issue with windowed mode. Whenever that happens to me, I can fix it by clicking inside the game window, both with the left and right mouse buttons. My guess is that the game sometimes gets in a state where it wrongly believes that one of the mouse buttons is pressed

LukeRoss

Initial testing good. However, the R1 button on my PS4 controller is not attacking. In flat mode, it works just fine.

Marc Richter

Thanks so much for the early morning release! looking forward to spending some time with this today :)

Brandon(Post Maester)

This looks awesome, fantastic work luke, you my friend are very gifted 👍👍👍🍻

JBOX

Very hype to run this today

GenWorldTV

Amazing work.

sharilah

Though I won't be using it, I recognise the work you have put into it and the attention it has received online, as well as in the gaming press. Well deserved.
