3.2.2 (the "You guys are amazing" update)

I have incredible news, and it's all thanks to you guys! We made the world's Top 50 for the "Games" category O_O

https://graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/games

It's even more amazing because we're not talking about a "VR games" category, but games in general! That gives me great hopes that we're going to save VR yet, save it both from the publishers and studios that are too afraid to invest in it anymore and from the bitter people who spend their days posting everywhere that VR is dead (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

It's so not dead! What a beautiful community you're making with your support and enthusiasm!!

Update Mar 20: If you're a Pimax user and want to get rid of the black hairline on the left and right sides of the HUD, AND you feel comfortable with hex editors like HxD, you can patch the pi_server.exe file yourself: while PiTool 1.0.1.275 is not running, just modify the byte at offset C97CB from 04 to 03 and save the file. Please only attempt this if you know what you're doing, otherwise you run the risk of breaking your Pimax software installation. You've been warned! [For the latest 1.0.1.277 version the offset has moved to C9CAB]

Update Mar 19: I found the exact point where pi_server.exe (a component of PiTool) messes up the alpha calculation for the overlay layer, i.e., the root cause for the Pimax black square of infamy :-P
Release 3.2.2 attached below pre-corrects for that bug, allowing you to enjoy RDR2 and the other games with your Pimax headset. The thin black line at the outer borders of the HUD remains, as it can't be pre-corrected (see above for a new method to get rid of it that unfortunately involves hex-editing the server).
I hope that when the lockdown in China relents, the Pimax engineering team will roll up their sleeves and actually get around to fixing their bugs, because it's unfair toward the majority of my Patrons that I should waste so much development time tracking down and working around a plethora of vendor-specific issues that Valve and Oculus have never had, or solved years ago. Maybe it's just me, but I believe that when your market is a niche inside a niche, and your headsets command a high price and are mostly intended for power users in search of the best possible experience, your software should be more robust and performant than the competition's, and not the other way around!

Update Mar 17: There was a problem with release 3.2.0 where the new code for detecting and activating Oculus emulation mode on Pimax headsets would erroneously trigger with the original Oculus Rift S, making it impossible to enter VR with it. The issue is fixed with release 3.2.1 attached at the bottom. If you're already on 3.2.0 and don't have a Rift S you don't need to download again, as nothing else has changed.

Here it is finally, 3.2.2. So many changes, we're gonna need a post timeline:

Remember to run RealConfig after unzipping the new archive into the game executable folder, otherwise the update won't work!

Pimax users: as anticipated, this release brings a major performance update. Pimax headsets are not very common, so I'm in fact not sure whether the awful performance that I was seeing compared to other, more mainstream headsets like the Quest 2 or the Index was specific to my system or widespread. Anyway, on my PC I'm now seeing major improvements. [Thank you for the performance reports, guys!!! It seems that the improvements are indeed visible across all systems!]
Unfortunately the Pimax driver for SteamVR has some severe bugs that I cannot work around. I reported those issues to their team in December, but since then they have gone completely silent on me. So, in order to reap the benefits, I had to force the headset to work in Oculus emulation mode.
If you never used Oculus emulation mode in the past on your system, you will need to install the
Oculus runtime. You don't have to create an account with Oculus/Facebook/Meta; just finish the installation and reboot.
If the Oculus runtime is already installed on your PC, you won't need to do anything else as the mod will automatically inject the necessary libraries; just make sure that PiTool is running as usual. However, you will notice that when the game starts you will get a UAC prompt to run something called "RealFluid"; you'll have to wait for the prompt and click on it on the desktop before putting on the headset. It's a nuisance, but without official support it's the best I can do. The prompt won't appear again until you quit PiTool, even if you restart the game.

Hi CMF, please post in one of the newer posts up top, I don't scroll down this far very often. Luke's mods only support K/M or Gamepad no motion controls.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Hi , I'm having issues as well. I installed it properly but it seems when I go to play the controllers aren't at all properly synced? I can't open a menu with the vr remote or walk anywhere

CMF Reviews

I am not familiar with pimax, does it need the oculus runtime for Lukes mods(seems odd)? I would think it would just use OpenXR. Does it not just allow you to launch the game from Steam without having SteamVR already running?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Hey Luke, just got the pimax 8kx: I have the oculus runtime installed (seems to be the same installer for the oculus software) pitool is running steamvr is running However, when launching the executable from the folder, steamvr seems to crash. I do not see a UAC popup .

Andrés Ortega

Did you ever figure it out? I've had a tough time tracking down answers when it comes to nis. ffr, cas and fsr. For me and my dusty but trusty 1080ti it seems at times to be not just a game changer but a world changer. in GTA v the FFR feels like it works great. nis too.

CryptVicious

Anyone know of a way to employ FSR/NIS with Luke's Mods? Or FFR?

D S

I would second it but Cyberpunk was very vertical. Witcher was very horizontal. Nothing to look up to as I recall other than in the main castle. Plus many cutscenes...

D S

Welcome to the Patreon! It's always best to use the latest version, but it's not mandatory unless official updates to the game(s) break older versions

Please use the "Reply to comment" button otherwise you're creating a new thread for each message. That's the correct size, and offset C97CB is just 825,291 in decimal, so it must be there :-) You don't need to search for it, just use Goto (Ctrl+G)

LukeRoss

12,118,528 bytes

Andy K.

What is the exact size in bytes of your pi_server.exe?

LukeRoss

I can't seem to find offset C97CB in my pi_server.exe to get rid of my lines in RDR2. I searched for the offset in hxd but no luck. Running pitools version 1.0.1.275 which reports as the latest version. Anyone else have success with this?

Andy K.

I believe that the cost of the Pimax is going to be worth one day ahahahah

Pierpaolo Tiberio

It seem to work by injecting new 16:9 resolutions into the game, which will probably conflict with mine (and of course it doesn't know about square resolutions because as you said it's not VR-oriented). So the only scenario where I might see it applicable is for Pimax headsets

LukeRoss

Hi Luke, I was wondering if the Nvidia Image Scaling was supported in your VR mod and if you tried it. Technically speaking it's not working in VR games but I would like to know if this could increase performance with your mod. Cheers :)

Pierpaolo Tiberio

@vault I found the same with No Mans Sky, will always support Guy Godin (on account of him being awesome) but for some games Airlink is smoother. That said I tell everyone to buy VD, because there are some things it does better and im not hitching my wagon to Meta @ all

Desmond Hayes

Hello! I know that you have probably answered this Q a lot of times, but what about Witcher 3? recently I've found this vid on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXanMYu8EYg&ab_channel=MathChief-TheBestofGaming%21 and started to wondering if you would be able to inject your VR magic into this gem of a game :) Cheers! Thank you for all your effort!

Krysian

Thank you for the feedback, Vault15!! Are you on the latest 1.20.30 release of VD, both for the streamer and the Quest app?

LukeRoss

Awesome work including Virtual Desktop now with your mods. I tried testing Virtual Desktop vs AirLink, and my conclusion was that Virtual Desktop has strange lag when looking left or right in VR (but moving the mouse left or right is smooth). You might think I just need to lower settings, but actually when setting extreme performance mode settings it had zero effect (still laggy when looking left or right turning your head). Now back to AirLink, it's smooth as butter looking around in all directions (no lag issues whatsoever). Once again, changing settings did nothing to improve Virtual Desktop at all, no matter what I did (including resolution, DLSS, etc). Still, it's awesome that Virtual Desktop is now an option. Looking forward to future updates. Using an RTX 2080 + 5600X.

Vault15

I cannot repro the issue with black boxes where the captions should go. It might be caused by some other mod that you have installed or a corrupted game installation (have you tried validating your files with Steam)? For the CP2077 screenshot(s) just upload them to imgur or any image hosting service of your choice and post the link here

LukeRoss

Hello LukeRoss, my computer is Dell Alienware Aurora R7, I have a GPU 48G , tomorrow I'll be updating it to 64GB ,I'm running MSI GEFORCE RTX 2070 SUPER and my VR headset are Oculus RIFT S and Oculus Quest 2 . the issue with the CP2077 it's you see on the street like fog, like in real life a foggy night and with RDR2 let's say if I have the English captions on they'll show the captions with a black background but when I turned off the English captions the black background stays, it happens just when the game is on cut scenes. I'll be glad to send you screen shots but like I said I'm new on Patreon and don't know how to send them, please tell me how to send them and I'll send them, thank you.

GioSim

Please read the setup instructions carefully. I'm not sure what you mean about CP2077 and RDR2, screenshots of what you see would be helpful. For H:ZD you might have forgotten to disable SteamVR Theatre mode. Also, when you make support requests it wouldn't hurt to put in your system specs (CPU, GPU, headset, VR runtime...)

LukeRoss

Hello Ross just got my mods last night, wow! what a great experience but I have some issue with 3 games, Cyberpunk sometimes shows kind of foggy or like there is steam in the air and is like a orangish color, don't know is that part of the game and Red Dead Redemption 2 when it goes to story scene it shows the black panel where the caption are supposed to show (I did turned off the caption) and Horizon-Zero-Dawn play on theater mod not on VR , I hope get a response I really love these mods, thanks.

GioSim

Yes, I know about that project! I had a similar idea but never got started implementing it, so it's very good that somebody else is doing it :-)

LukeRoss

It would maybe be wise to avoid unreal 4 games: https://github.com/TheNewJavaman/unreal-vr

Cercata

No PC update for GTA 5, not even the content (5 cars), really weird ...

Cercata

The links in the README are working for me. Are you referring to the current version of the README which is attached to this very post?

LukeRoss

Hi Dominic! The jittering window on the desktop is normal. It's just showing the eye rendered last, so it flickers between the left and right views. That's done intentionally to make it zero cost (while other VR games have a noticeable GPU performance impact for rendering the mirror image). The ghosting when objects in the scene move laterally is an artefact of AER, and it can be made better by raising the refresh frequency of the headset and/or pushing for higher in-game fps by lowering the resolution or the graphics options. You need at least 70-80 fps as measured by the mod's own fps counter to have a really fluid experience

LukeRoss

You really weren't kidding when you said Pimax treated first class. Thanks for the fixes and optimizations!

D S

Hey Luke, Thanks so much for the mod! Love trying this title in VR. I was wondering if the 'tearing/jittering/ effect is normal? When I move quickly it looks like the rendering is tearing or jittering slightly. It looks fine when I move my head, but when I walk or run it is very noticeable. I also notice that my onscreen display on my pc monitor is constantly stuttering/jittering while I am in game. Everything onscreen is fine when I'm in the menu, but as soon as I start playing, my pc monitor display of the game is jittering also. It resembles what it looks like when I move my character in game in my Quest 2. Not sure if there is a fix for this or if it's just the current state of the mod? I'm currently running a 3090. Thanks so much!

Dominic Sagona

I need help updating, I tried replacing the original extracted mod files with the new one and it still wont update and tells me on the previous version , help?

YOKOH VR

Hey Luke, I love the mod and I've been toying with my 3060 to try to get it running well. One answer I found is using DLSS to help performance. Unfortunately, using the setting has resulted in many crashes and has made the game nearly unplayable. In your readme quickstart guide, you link a few resources, including one for configuring DLSS to prevent having an "unsatisfactory experience." The problem is that these are not live links, so when it says "this post" in blue, there is no way to view what has been linked. I'm sure the information has been posted on your patreon, but the built in search function has served me little help in finding it. I know you want to keep this locked behind a paywall to protect your hard work, rightfully so, but would there be a better platform to index all of the information for tuning the mod? Just suggestions, keep up the great work. I'm having a blast in Red Dead and GTA- your mod brings a whole new perspective to my favorite flat-screen games (no pun intended).

Mathias Lazewski

Honestly I don't know. Their lack of communication makes it anybody's guess

LukeRoss

I don't have a Vive Pro 2, but if you put your log on Pastebin.com I can tell you what the headset reports!

LukeRoss

Hi Luke, using a Vive Pro 2, does the raw mode SteamVR edit play any role? I don't think VP2 has canted displays, so I doubt it, but I'm gonna try to adjust the PPD to see if I can tweak for better performance.

Tarun Charaipotra

As a pimax customer is there anything I can do to help get you support? Maybe pimax users could open support tickets to pimax via there site requesting them look into the driver issues to that Luke reported to them? Or would this complicate matters more?

Andy K.

Well, I still have hopes that we'll get an official fix from Pimax

LukeRoss

Which game are we talking about?

LukeRoss

Quick question: This does not solve the overlay issue with colors slightly different in HUD region? Fixed the value in the pi_server file and installed 3.2.2 mod and still have a "square" with the hud clearly visible :o

LetsPlayGoodGames

There are not free apps to apply binary patchs to a file if it matches a hash ? Maybe this one ? https://docs.hhdsoftware.com/hex/definitive-guide/patches/applying-patches.html

Cercata

1. No. I always send the full frame rate that the headset expects. So for instance, if you have an Index set to 120 Hz, I will send 120 fps to EACH eye. The trick is that the world will be correctly reprojected at the above-mentioned full frame rate, and only the unpredictable information (like NPCs moving around) will be updated at the much lower frequency generated by the game. That makes 60 fps mostly look and feel like 180 or 240 fps, again apart from what's moving in unpredictable ways inside the world. Binocular overlap has nothing to do with it. 2. Because Pimax's SteamVR implementation has severe bugs that they need to fix on their side. The Oculus emulation is in better shape and I was able to achieve satisfactory results with workarounds from my side. I'm very grateful to Pimax for providing a test unit, but that doesn't mean that I can single-handedly rewrite their driver :-D 3. Yes, but as I already said every game has its limitations. H:ZD for example can only render correctly at the (few) aspect ratios it supports; RDR2 will show black bars if the aspect ratio is too large and I will need to patch the game to remove them; and so on and so forth.

LukeRoss

I have a few questions from over on OpenMR and Discord and Reddit: 1 is does 60 fps in stereo mean 30 FPS per eye? And does the binocular overlap make 60 fps what our little brains perceive as a result? Another is: why do I get better frame rate with Oculus runtime over SteamVR for the same settings with Pimax. And a third: Will you consider custom (adaptive) resolutions for RDR2 and HZD in a future update?

D S

Well for me I guess I'll have to wait until Yacht Simulator 2077 comes out. If it doesn't support VR I'm sure I'll still be a Patron

D S

I use DS4 windows, I do the ps button for recenter and touchpad to toggle the hud on and off completely.

Brian O'Blivion

Thank you JLF, and welcome to the Patreon!!!

LukeRoss

Yeah, new game!! Let's sail away on the Braindance! []-D

LukeRoss

When you're buy your yacht Luke, name it the Brain Dance, OK Choomba?...I regret that I played the pancake version as far as I did. I've never started a game over. Restarting now!

D S

Damn. Cyberpunk feels like a native VR game. And I mean a GOOD native vr game! Very glad I dediced to give this a go.

JLF

Thanks Billy!! I'm not sure about the Quest 1 with Virtual Desktop as I can't try it personally. However, see Beardo Benjo demonstrating the headshake at this timecode: youtu.be/kTNot9jjEao?t=234 For the gesture to be recognized, it is important that you keep your head still for a second both before and after the headshake, otherwise it will be interpreted as you just looking around.

LukeRoss

Got night city looking absolutely fantastic using the new mod. It is a sight to behold and all your little quality of life improvements make a huge difference in VR. Wireless via virtual desktop is also working great. One thing -I've been shaking my head continually since you've implemented the "shake to centre" feature and have never yet had a successful re-centre. Am I doing it wrong? (i7-10700/3080/32G/Quest 1) Or is the Quest 1 perhaps not able to perform that function?

Billy Bloggs

Anyone have any luck binding recentre and free HUD keys to the gamepad? What software did you use and what buttons work best if so?

Rich Helstrip

Have you considered using VRS or FFR to improve performance? They would be limited to certain NVidia GPUs of course (major downside). OpenXRToolkit and VRPerfKit have been very successful. OpenXRToolkit is even pioneering Dynamic Foveation with eye tracking in the Aero. The Pimax 12K promises similar things. Pimax has it's own built-in FFR, but it seems to fail with most games including REAL mods.

D S

Once again Luke you took the bull by the horns. The HUD lines are nearly unnoticeable and in some cases helpful for finding my HUD haha. I just love the new features. The PPD slider and adaptive FOV/aspect ratios are wonderful additions. Keep targeting DLSS games even though it's hard to adapt DLSS to AER because I can't imagine these games without DLSS.

D S

In my experience and observation with a 75Hz HMD: The displayed FPS refers to to the total. So in alternate eye rendering or stereo modes it is half the displayed fps per eye. So for example if you have a 75Hz HMD it would limit to and display as 75 fps, you would get 37.5 fps per eye (which is a round number of the display so it's still a Vsync, just at half hz. I think the human eye also takes the binocular area and will recognize the increased frames in that area as increasingly smooth. Also you can't apply motion smoothing to stereo. This is not true in mono mode though as it is rendering both eyes as one frame. Thus 75 displayed fps is indeed 75 fps. PLUS you can use motion smoothing to really get the best of both worlds, thus allowing you to increase your PPD much further (if you don't mind the artifacts Motion Smoothing can produce). I have a really tough time deciding between mono and stereo because in mono I get to use motion smoothing and drop the DLSS/TAA parallax shimmer to boot. It's just wonderful that we have a CHOICE! Also of note the Alternate Eye Rendering mode limits fps to your HMD Hz, but the R.E.A.L. mode doesn't seem to do so- So if you can somehow get 150 fps you would have fully smooth stereo fidelity (but presumably terrible clarity unless you're from the future). These again are just my careful observations, please reply with corrections if you perceive or know otherwise.

D S

Anyone: The fps the mods includes, is it accurate i.e. if its displaying 90fps is that 45 per eye = 90 overall, or is it 90 in both eyes?

Cristian Hunt

wow damn you quick with the fixes, pimax really needs to get their shit together as it is definetly not fair to other headsets users you wasting time for one single niche headset weird bugs idk wtf they been doing lately.

Cazanu

Great job, Luke!

Giovanni M

No, I didn't change anything in the recentering code. Are you by any chance using a wireless gamepad?

LukeRoss

The last thing you do is what matters. If you set the adaptive resolution and then change the game resolution with the in-game menus, the latter will be the one that's used!

LukeRoss

It doesn't seem to be a replacement for ASW but a way of smoothing out network errors. "If your wireless connection is good enough, you should never see AFI"

LukeRoss

I checked with my 8KX and Mafia III works fine! Did you remember to run RealConfig?

LukeRoss

Fantastic work on the update! One really large issue I'm experiencing after updating though is it seems like it's almost constantly trying to recenter (without trying to). I see the menus jump different distances. If I happen to be looking to the right or left, sometimes it'll get recentered way over somewhere else. I'm using a Reverb G2 and OpenXR. Did something change related to any recenter code?

Brian Tate

Does the in-game resolution matter anymore with the new ”adaptive resolution” function? I’ve been playing around with both and it _seems_ to make a difference in clarity if the in-game resolution is higher. Adjusting p/deg changes the resolution (in overlay) but whatever I put in the video settings sticks. Enjoying the 90 fps smooth gameplay ;)

Solomon Ginsberg

I’v had a couple of flatlines. They seem to occur when applying the new ”adaptive resolution” but that could just be a coinsidence. It doesnt happen every time.

Solomon Ginsberg

in the reshade activate the adatativesharpeness and set it to 2.0 it is seen clearly in cyberpunk and horizon

zontrack -

Do any of you guys have problems with the game flatlining every time in under a minute. It used to work ok with the previous version. Ryzen 3950x, RTX 3070, Oculus quest 2. Thanks.

Satoristate

Hi Luke I know you are busy but do you know if this will work with r.e.a.l mods? Oculus Air Link is getting a new experimental feature called Air Link Framerate Insurance (AFI) with firmware v38. Framerate Insurance is designed to smooth out gameplay when playing PC VR games over Wi-Fi on Quest 2. This is a replacement for Oculus Asynchronous Spacewarp and will need to be enabled manually, for now.

WIG

Luke, have you tested Mafia 3 with the new update yet? I tried it and could not get VR to start up with my 8KX. I tried using the Auto, Oculus and SteamVR settings and none of them would make the game go into VR when hitting the Start VR button.

william mumford

Not at the moment! Recentering is very easy though, just shake your head "no" once :-)

LukeRoss

Hello, Luke. Thank you very much for your mod. My PImax feels very good now. There's another question. When I turn on the computer in the game, my face will be very close to the screen. If I lean my head back, the words will become blurred. Using recentre can solve this problem, but unfortunately, I may need recentre every time I open a new computer. I wonder if there is any other more convenient way?

野盖 常

RDR2 does have a bug with the hud in the 3.2.1 due to Pimax limitations, so I reverted to 3.1.0 and forced some 16:9 resolutions by selecting fullscreen and then changing the resolution. I also used some DSR resolutions to get higher resolutions. But yes it works well enough to play in stereo at a good frame rate and clarify. I'm hoping Luke can eventually apply some of his adaptive screen magic shown in 3.2.1 to RDR2 and HZD. I couldn't force 16:9 in HZD.

D S

Thank you and welcome to the Patreon!!

LukeRoss

Thanks for the quick update to fix Rift S support. I'll be using that as my main PCVR headset until next-generation tech comes out. I understand that TAA/DLSS support is very tricky, but I feel like it's necessary for this game. Right now I'm just playing in mono in order to use it with good image quality, but if it worked in stereo without the blur, that would be tremendous. Thanks for all the good work.

Joseph Wall

RDR2 working good in the Pimax 8KX?

BokinatorX

Hi, I have seen a Youtube video from the Cyberpunk VR mod and had to get it. I've just played 2 hours of it and I am very impressed. Great work. To experience Night City in VR is a dream that came true.

bpatchesnet

First time? Hold Tab to scan. When a target is centered in your Kiroshis, Z toggles between viewing their stats and the selected quickhack's functions. Scroll quickhacks to upload with Up or Down arrows, or the mousewheel. (mousewheel zooms in and out when you're not on a target) Press F to upload the selected quickhack. The most confusing aspect for me was toggling cameras. When you're in the camera/turret control view, 1 and 3 switches between cameras, and C backs out to normal view. I'm sure this all makes perfect sense on a gamepad but the keyboard controls are not intuitive.

Zabe

Did you get a Grey square when aiming in RDR2 or HZD? Also Luke stated we can switch to the SteamVR mode in RDR2 but lose the performance gains...not sure what that meant exactly as I thought the performance gains came from the proper aspect ratios being used on Pimax, which RDR2 doesn't have (yet?). In any case, I've yet to try HZD and love the game - hope it doesn't have the Grey square ...I'm going to call it the Pimax Square since it's on Pimax to fix either their steam or oculus implementations

D S

Is that done in the ini file? What values did you use?

Zabe

Just tried the updated mod in RDR2 and HZD and saw a nice improvement in performance with the 8KX there also. RDR2 really got a great boost and looks better than ever now. With the only flaw being the black lines due to the forced oculus mode. Even so it's pretty easy to ignore the black so I'll take the performance increase any day of the week. I also tried Mafia 3 but that one didn't work. The game would not start up in VR. I opened up the config menu and tried clicking the StartVR button with each of the options but none of them would make it run in VR.

william mumford

I'm really starting to recognize the significance of the work you did to make DLSS/TAA work in RDR2. DLSS and TAA are essential for VR in my opinion. To make that work in AER was daunting as you said. I just wanted to recognize what that must have taken and how impressive it is that it works flawlessly from what I can tell. Respect! I know you're focused on CP2020 and beyond, but wanted to tip my hat regarding that feature for RDR2!

D S

en el reshade activar el adatativesharpeness y ponerlo a 2.0 se ve con una claridad en cyberpunk y horizon

zontrack -

what next game?

Fabio Knopp

I had to adjust the tilt sensitivity to a higher value or it slides all over. But it works ok!

D S

Anyone else having a bitch of a time hacking in VR? I can’t seem to figure out the right buttons (keyboard, in my case). Maybe someone will build a mod to skip hacking all together.

zamphir

If you run RealConfig so that your settings are restored to my defaults and then once in game you activate "Show FPS", what frame rates are you getting?

LukeRoss

I can only run this on super low resolutions. I have a Ryzen 5 3600 with 64gb ddr4 ram, and an RX 5600 XT, the game runs great on my monitor, but in VR it's supper laggy if I turn up the resolution. Also I'm using an Oculus Quest 2. I'll try it on the Rift S to see if I can improve the quality, as I can't even get the Quest 2 to look good in any game lmao

blink

As you can see in my combat tutorial video it works fine on my end (the video was recorded with the Valve Index). If you upload a save game I will check it, perhaps it depends on the specific camera?

LukeRoss

I don't know if it's a bug or only on my side. When trying to take control over cameras the game instantly crashes. Using a Valve Index. Happens both with parallel and raw mode.

Hoshi82

I run everything on low except I have lod and texture high. Definitely turn off motion blur through. That really messes up VR . Yeah I got 8kx too

Andy K.

I run with parallel projections off and normal fov. Double check you don't have motion blur enabled in the game I believe

Andy K.

OK, after restarting my machine I made it in and VR worked- BUT: the initial menus looked fine in a kind of 2d theater mode, however when I loaded into the actual game everything was super blurry to the extend that you could not make out your own hand in front of you. Do you have to turn on parallel projection or something?

P78nutz

P78..I have a pimax and all I had to do was download the Oculus software and install it without creating an account. I rebooted, started pimax software and then start that game. The Oculus emulation mode seems to be automatic for me.

Andy K.

ah ok, sorry I missed this. Where can I find this Oculus emulation mode? Do I have to download the actual Oculus software?

P78nutz

Hi and welcome! With Pimax headsets I now use Oculus emulation mode, because they have performance problems with SteamVR. That means you will need to install the Oculus runtime. After you do that, the mod will automatically enable Oculus emulation mode for you and you should be good to go

LukeRoss

First time mod user here with a Pimax 8kx, unfortunately- this mod does not work for me. I have followed the installation instructions and when I start the game it does start in a small window , indicating it is trying to start in VR but the game does not start steam VR. So I manually started steam VR beforehand and when I start the game I can hear it but only see the cyberpunk configuration screen in Steam VR....help please!

P78nutz

Thank you Solomon! Now, that's an unexpected side effect! Or slide effect :-P

LukeRoss

Call the company REAL VR Inc =)

drowhunter

I was thinking the same thing, he's only one guy. He could give them "REAL training" and then start a whole company that go's around making games REAL at a rapid pace.

drowhunter

The new HUD mechanics and weapon changes are amazing. Well done Luke! I had no idea how much these changes would actually make a great mod even better but you pulled it off once again:) My playing style (seated) tends to make my neck stiff, relying heavily on thumbstick rotation. With the new HUD, not only can I avoid eye strain when trying to read the info, I now get built-in neck excersises which makes playing longer more comfortable. Shoot-outs are much better than before (didnt have many issues though). The tilt/read function is right up there with headshake to recenter, just brilliant dev work Luke.

Solomon Ginsberg

i tried one of the earlier versions and it while i got it to work it was not enjoyable. however between adjusting the settings and your updates. all i can say is WOW!

Todd Stephenson

Have you tried simply recentering? If that's not enough, you might check if the camera offsets for "Tweak 1st person driving" are all at their defaults (0)

LukeRoss

Could you try again after selecting a different square resolution from the game menus, and without pushing the "Adapt resolution" button afterwards? Does that still occur?

LukeRoss

Please have another run with the renderer set to "Oculus", then paste the contents of your RealVR64.log file to Pastebin.com and give me the link so I can check if something looks wrong

LukeRoss

Just curious if anyone can tell me. In mono mode, the bounds of the screen sort of "bounce" when I nod my head as a result of latency - and they are rectangular. I was wondering if there was a simple over-scan or overdraw technique that could be performed so that this didn't occur or was mitigated. Rounding them and limiting them would involve some sort of hidden area mask, which is HMD-specific...(regrettably PiTool doesn't enforce it with its option) Then I thought: "Wait, why doesn't this occur in stereo modes?" I haven't figured that one out. Stumped. If anyone can tell my why I don't see that same bounce as much in stereo modes - and how they provide the circularized sides, where mono-mode is squared off, I'd love it. Any insight would be appreciated. I love the tech/optics as much as the game.

D S

Dear luke,I found that when I was sitting in the front passenger seat of NPC's car, I couldn't adjust the position of my head with mod, so I saw my headless body sitting in the front passenger seat ,and my head in the back row. This is a harmless problem and may not be solved in VR, but if it can be solved, we may have a better experience.

野盖 常

Hey luke, I cant seem to get RealFluid to work with my Pimax, If i set auto instead of Steam VR the mod doesnt work, nothing in the headset and if steam vr isnt running i get nothing in the headset. I havent seen any notification come up about RealFluid, any ideas? thanks

Elliot Careswell

Imagine what Luke could do with a small team! I really wish there was a course on VR modding, I would totally get into it :) I know it is different depending on the game and engine but there has to be some basics that are pretty similar.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Thank you D S! I do hope that somebody at CD Projekt RED is seeing how good their game could look in VR (same for Rockstar)

LukeRoss

CDProjecktRed must be beside themselves. This game could support all of this NATIVELY. Even if they didn't support it explicitly, they could leave certain aspect moddable such that no one has to wait years for a hack. I Hope Oculus and PSVR2 wake people up to what VR can be. Cyberpunk is so alive - so immersive, to think that we would watch through a hole in the wall is sad.

D S

Thanks for giving support to the Pimax Headsets! I really appreciate that! Greetings from Germany!

Thomas J

Another 2 hours down in NC and the current update seems to have solved more issues that made the game uncomfortable to play: The issue of picking up things from the ground and the issue mostly of not seeing the text in corners of the screen, by allowing you to shift and scroll the HUD rightwards. Great work. Another improvement I noticed was the ability to see V's body, a change in perspective makes it much easier to see your legs and body as you look down, increasing immersion. One issue I had was appearing too tall due to me usually sitting on a chair and playing, however the settings allow you to push the POV down, solving this as well. Very robust. Getting CP 2077 to play in VR this well, this comfortably, is no mean feat! It's almost magic. It gives me the feeling that if you can get this first person game to work, you can probably do anything in VR.

gurufabbes

:-D Did you delete the settings when you ran RealConfig? If you didn't you can try deleting your RealVR.ini file to reset them to my defaults

LukeRoss

Thank you!! They might come in the future... But probably not for quite some time, their next thing should be the next-gen remake of The Witcher 3

LukeRoss

I don't even have to run steam VR anymore on my pimax. I load up to the pimax software load cp2077 be and click on that oculus real fluid thing and I'm rock and rolling in VR. Shame you aren't getting the support from pimax. Allot is going on in the world now so maybe they will get back to you eventually. I'm glad Luke did a workaround for us pimax users as I'm now getting like 20 more fps in cp2077. Bravo Luke!

Andy K.

Wonderful! Night City has even more going on than I thought :) I failed to have RealConfig delete the old settings, but once I did that, handguns moved to their correct position :)

Alistair

No Luke, YOU are amazing!!! This is amazing

SharkySi

Awesome this tilt slide thing, I should play the game again ... but before that, I must replay RDR2 XD Shit, CDPR, we need expansions for CP2077 like the ones for the Witcher 3

Cercata

What headset are you using?

LukeRoss

It's the same issue as the black line at the side of the HUD in CP2077. You can make it better by changing the renderer to SteamVR (although you'll lose the performance improvements)

LukeRoss

Thank you for your hard work again. Your work is solely the reason why I bought VR headset few weeks ago. My friend introduced me to SteamVR + Half Life Alyx - it was cool but I was most intrested seeing GTA V and RDR2 from VR perspective - but what really suprised me that you already had CP2077 VR MOD and after 1.5 came out I gave it another chance and then though VR and this is just amazing. VR is not dead. It's not like it would something like Nvidia SLI as concept :D

Zmo Zv

Is the square that appears when aiming (size of your outstretched hand) in RDR2 a new bug? It's the only think stopping a playthings of RDR2 for me.

D S

I absolutely love it, but it really does my eyes in the way the graphics tear when I strafe or move sideways and stuff. I've played with the graphics settings a bit but can't seem to stop it. Is this just cause I'm running it on a i7 with a RTX 2070 super? Is there recommended graphics settings anywhere? there's so many settings I'm not sure which will benefit me most !

Christopher Roffey

Yes, it's part of the installation process (you can make a copy of your "%LocalAppData%\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077\UserSettings.json" file beforehand if you don't want to lose your in-game settings)

LukeRoss

With each release, do we need to re-run RealConfig.bat?

Shawn Colton

Cristian, can you paste the contents of your RealVR64.log file for 3.2.0 to Pastebin.com and give me the link?

LukeRoss

this mod is incredible ! Plays awesome on Virtual Desktop now!!! You are a genius ~~

Michael Hughes

*channeling keanu* You're amazing!

Lisa Croxford

The v3_2_0 won't work. v3_1_0 works. If i extract v3_2_0 and run RealConfig.bat the game starts in 2D mode only. Any ideas? With a Varjo Aero

Cristian Hunt

What headset do you have?

LukeRoss

Me pasa lo mismo, se queda en modo cine y no entra a modo VR :(

Francisco Torres

What an amazing experience that you have gifted us.. we dont deserve you .................

Sean Crisel

Sorry for your social life <3

LukeRoss

Ohhh my. I just tested the head tilt menu shift feature. That is a game changer!! Plus I installed GTA5 and your VR mod there too. My social life just went out the window... This is so awesome! Thank you Sir!!

Deofol

Every game has its own mechanism. RDR2 treats resolution in a completely different way from CP2077

LukeRoss

Thank you! The issues you noticed depend on frame rate. You need at least 60-70 fps for a good experience, what are you getting if you activate "Show FPS"?

LukeRoss

I don't support anything like Hidden Area Mask or whatever it's called with different headsets, as it's hard to retrofit into pre-existing engines and in any case it barely gives any gain with deferred renderers. The game draws the supertitles on NPC using the camera angle, so unfortunately the huge cant of Pimax HMDs makes them hard on the eyes. However object descriptions work fine for me

LukeRoss

thank u luke!my pimax 8k+ works better than before. When I use the default resolution and shake my head, there is no black edge any more. But if I turn up the resolution and shake my head, there will be a black edge again. And When walking, things are shaking and blurred. And the walking NPC also looks jittery and fuzzy. Hope these will be fixed in the future. THANK U!

野盖 常

Can the adaptive resolutions slider be worked into RDR2 ...try as I might, can't get custom resolutions there for PimaxFoV

D S

Fixables?: Text Subtitles from NPCs and descriptions on items as you're about to grab them currently do not work with canted displays (in stereo mode) as the text is displayed at differing angles. Hidden Area Mask doesn’t get applied to the Canted Displays, leaving it feel like a theater screen. I tried forcing it in PiTool, but it didn't work.

D S

No, sadly. Fixing TAA implies completely rewriting the game's TAA implementation from scratch to accommodate stereo rendering. I did it for RDR2 and it took me a LOT of time. I'm not sure that it makes sense to do it again for other games as that particular task is the stuff of nightmares... To give you an example of what I mean: I have hundreds of lines of code that deal exclusively with fixing antialiasing on horses' manes :-/ Also, a further complication is that AA/super-resolution systems are proliferating. Fixing DLSS so that it renders correctly in stereo, for instance, has some points in common but is mostly independent from fixing TAA, and the same will likely happen with the new upsampling implementation that AMD has teased. Also, every engine implements all those techniques in different ways, so the fixes won't be portable from one game to another.

LukeRoss

Did you run RealConfig? Also does it depend on which gun you choose or does it happen with all guns?

LukeRoss

Thank you for the feedback! Re: the black line, Pimax has bugs in their management of layer transparency that I can't fully work around. I did my best to pre-correct the image but would really need them to fix the wrong computations on their side

LukeRoss

1. That's correct unfortunately. The markers are drawn at the periphery of your field of view and with canted projections that's quite different for the left and right eye (which is also a problem more generally for visual stereo matching, and the main reason I'm not a huge fan of displays with large cant angles) 2. Pimax has bugs in their management of layer transparency that I can't fully work around. I did my best to pre-correct the image but would really need them to fix the wrong computations on their side

LukeRoss

Are you running the game as admin perhaps? In that case the mod would just do its thing silently without you seeing any prompts

LukeRoss

Thank you Rich! As you can see from my videos (which were shot with the Index) I cannot repro the flickering issue here. Do you have a way of making it happen reliably that I can try?

LukeRoss

Thank you for the feedback D S! Do you have a link for Pimax's reply? I couldn't find it

LukeRoss

Hey Luke - I noted that RDR2 has a fix for the TAA/DLSS in the menu. Is there a chance that can be applied to CP2077? I can't do without DLSS/TAA

D S

Thank you J S and welcome to the community!

LukeRoss

It's not just you! Unfortunately the game decides what to render for the markers based on the camera angle, and with the large cant of Pimax displays the decisions for the two eyes are often mismatched :-(

LukeRoss

Great acegamer, thanks for the feedback!

LukeRoss

I really like this update but im still have the guns on my chin they have not dropped to the position in this video how do i get the guns out of my face im using my quest 2

Adam McCarty 81

great update specially for pimax users,no more double quest markers, but one small issue is a black line going across the screen right next to the map HUD,got about 10 to 15% fps boost with this update in the exact same location at my settings so i uped the res a bit now, looting hud now is perfect before i didnt even know what i was looting lol, great day to have an 8kx it went from barely playable months ago with atrocious performance because of PP needed to the best choice for your mods, thanks alot.

Cazanu

which Pimax do you have?

D S

Tried the HZD with the new mod and injection on pimax - huuuuuuuge boost in quality, however, I have 2 issues: 1) Questmarkers seem to be only shown on 1 eye when they are out of your fov 2) The HUD is now somehow static, even ehen i scan or shoot and is always "present" - I can see a square (where the HUD is) with slightly different colors when moving the camera around Parallelprojections off, regardless of Stereo/REAL Render

LetsPlayGoodGames

Hello, I installed mod 3.2.0, however, after following the tutorial religiously, once the command prompt entered yes for "realfluid" I have the game on the screen but not in the helmet..... I reinstalled cyberpunk 2077 properly, performed "bat config". All works fine with earlier versions. I'm on pimax artisan and 2080s. Suggestions for investigation?

fio fio

Its not just you, Luke mentions it on here. Like you discover in your next post, taa/dlss doesn't know how to play ball with stereoscopic properly. He said it might be addressable if it gained enough interest but would be a lot of work and time might be better spent on more pressing stuff. You can disable taa with the mod on nexus, with which I was gobsmacked at how much clearer stuff can look as it also gets rid of the blur. But you end up with horrendous aliasing instead. You can combat some of it with something like fxaa from reshade but then you're back in blur town again and it still can't mask it fully, so I ultimately ended up going back to default. It's always a trade off! Luke also explains the R.E.A.L / AER render modes, I don't wanna regurgitate his words incorrectly but he has talked about it so I'm sure you can find it if you search.

Rich Helstrip

OMG Just tried mono mode. I don't know which one I prefer more! In mono I can use motion smoothing and get incredible clarity. In AER, I get to take advantage of the canted displays, enjoy stereoscopic display, but I get the ghosting. I cant decide! hahah!

D S

D S

I didn't even get the RealFluid.exe prompt despite using Pimax and Oculus (Rift) is the runtime it appears to be using in game...is that bad? Do I need to run it from somewhere manually? I couldn't find the exe.

D S

Awesome work Luke! Sure as hell there is a performance increase on the Index using raw mode and the magic adapt button! Though I now seem to have a new bug where the HUD strobes/flickers. If I try different PPDs and press adapt again, sometimes it will start acting normal again, until I say press the pause menu and go back then its started strobing again

Rich Helstrip

First time Pimax steam user. Ran Realconfig.bat. SteamVR is running, RealFluid.exe prompt comes up and I accept. I just see the square screen on my monitor and my headset looks shows the default steamVR space even if I load a save game.

Jason Allred

Vader: "Luke...help me take this mask off..." Luke: "But you'll die" Vader: "Nothing can stop that now." seems I can't take my Pimax off now. AM I VADER? In answer to your question Luke - Yeeesssss the Pimax modifications greatly improve performance! I was sad to hear that Oculus mode was required. The reason being: VRPerfKit from fHolger on github (which could add FFR) doesn't work with Pimax when it uses Oculus. He tried, but he couldn't get past the fact that Pimax apparently used multiple Oculus libraries and he couldn't detect which one at runtime because he didn't own a Pimax. VRPerfKit does work with SteamVR and probably could work along side your mod (I got Reshade to work along side it by renaming his dxgi to d3d11.dll), but Pimax ghosted you, which is sad because they did respond in Open MR forums yesterday stating that they loved your work and that it was in the Pimax spirit.

D S

I am blown away at how immersive and polished this is already. Much respect and gratitude for your work.

J S

Search in the windows search bar for the file or Google standard location for gog launcher

WIG

They did at least provide him a unit to test

WIG

Also without parallel projections the waypoint markers are doing 2 different things for both eyes, is there a way around that? or am i just noticing it more coz im nearly blind in one eye, i usually play in mono so never had that issue

Elliot Careswell

Well done Luke! on my pimax 5k it jumped form 50fps to 60-65 fps. I havent seen any Real Fluid notification when launching

Elliot Careswell

I am curious to this as well. does the mod work across games, or is this one JUST for cyberpunk?

macstrat

Who says VR is dead? Looks quite alive to me. Thanks Luke.

drowhunter

Great job Luke! I can definitely confirm that the performance on my 8KX is MUCH better than it was before. I'm able to play at the 2160 resolution level now with the adaptive adjustment option where before I had to use the 1860 preset and even then it still wasn't as smooth as it is playing now at 2160. The only thing I'm seeing now is a black line that is showing up on either side of the hud.

william mumford

This update is excellent. Just to remind people of my weapon aiming zoom numbers: pistols (2,71 - 5,37) rifles and shotguns (4,04 - 8,03) sniper (4,04 - 8,03) extra aiming tweaks (9,17 - 12,78)

gurufabbes

Regarding VR naysayers, It could be the rye talking but VR is just in its infancy, so people like Luke will just be that much further ahead of the curve. Regarding pimax, Not happy hearing pimax is ghosting you. I have one of their headsets so hoping to they get back to you atleast.

Andy K.

I have Cyberpunk on Steam. When I launch it it brings up the GOG galaxy program and I launch from there. I installed the new mod in the Steam folder containing the Red pre launcher. I ran the config file and it aborts because the mod is not installed in the same folder as the launcher. I can`t find the launcher anywhere . The .None of the GOG folders seem to have it anything concerning Cyberpunk. I ran a search and still no luck. Any ideas where I can find where to install the mod so the config app will succeed.? Where the actual launcher is. Or don`t I need to run the config file. Thx?

paul

I am so excited for this update! I have already dumped 40 more hours into 2077 because of this mod.

Samir

thanks man!! i have a question.we use this file only for cyberpunk.or we update and the other games like rdr2?

acjason1

Just wanted to add to the positivity and let you know that I bought my Quest 2 1.5 years ago and bought a bunch of games and barely used it (with the exception of HL: Alyx). Then last month I discovered your GTAV and CP2077 mods and I've been having a blast with them! Thanks for all your hard work and continual updates, it's sick man!

Thanks for helping disenfranchise the haters that keep repeating VR is dead over and over just in the hopes their BS can be proven right. They killed 3DTV and 3D presentations at theaters so let's don't let them destroy VR for all of us that enjoy it. Pancake gaming is the real gimmick that won't go away. It tries to look 3D but it isn't.

Michael Siebielec

Congratulations for reaching the top 50! You really deserve it. Your dedication, skills and love for vr gives us so many great experiences, we could not experience otherwise! Thank you!
