The purpose of this Patreon
Added 2021-06-02 08:37:05 +0000 UTCFirst, I want to thank you all for the incredible support and enthusiasm! I am so happy that a tightly knit community of users has already formed around the mod, and it's wonderful to see Patrons helping each other with suggestions, custom settings, troubleshooting... Also, the discussion has been very civil and friendly, an amazing departure from the usual standards of the Web at large where people sometimes don't show the best side of themselves ;-)
Another positive note (which brings me to the title of this post) is that only 1/3 of the Patrons, which is an important fraction but not a huge one, have cancelled the pledge immediately after grabbing the mod. The remaining 2/3 are staying and showing their support, which means that they fully understand the purpose of this project. As I stated in my "About LukeRoss" introductory post, creating these mods is a huge undertaking, and I do need your help. In other words, you know that you're not paying for one mod, but you're supporting me financially in a continued effort to (hopefully) bring many other games to VR and to keep refining those I've already released.
Without your support, the alternative is to hope for AAA publishers and studios to finally notice VR and invest huge amounts of money in it, and we all know how quickly that's going to happen :-P
Thank you guys, you rock!!!

Probably none, the .bat file will have to get an small update to jntegrate the settings at least, but i don’t think it will be much work to do, seems pretty simple. Do the dlss be better in quality visuals ? .... that ... i don’t know. But hope for sure.

2021-06-05 02:52:15 +0000 UTCWhen I run the geforce experience and let it optimize the rdr2 settings my game returns to flat, but I still see the REAL mod banner when the game starts up. I found that additionally renaming the RealVR64.dll makes even the banner go away (I saw a post from Luke that mentioned renaming RealVR64.json will have similar effect). If you only do the rename step I suspect that will also return to flat but you'll have the square, windowed game until you go into settings and monkey with the resolution and any other settings you care about in-game. Returning to VR means renaming the dll or json file back if you did that step and running RealConfig.bat again.

2021-06-04 18:09:26 +0000 UTCI second the discord suggestion. Its getting difficult to keep track of posts with good information/tips.

2021-06-04 17:46:06 +0000 UTCPlease seriously consider setting up a discord server to improve feedback and sharing of information. I don't think there is a cost and if you set up private channels for patreon members the integration should completely automate granting/removing roles for access to your members: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/213552323-Add-Discord-roles-to-my-tiers Case in point: A bit ago I saw you mention your games wish list was part of your "about luke ross" post. I didn't have any luck finding your initial post and then couldn't even find the post I had just read five minutes before when I wanted to return to it. "search posts" seems completely useless, it keeps coming up with empty results even when I search for words I know are out there like asw, reprojection, cyberpunk or witcher. I often just repeat things I've read as best I can recall when helping others here as I know there is no way I or they could find the original post (for example I think you mentioned passing joystick movement to be simulated head movements but I'll never find the direct reference and can only pass along my flawed memory of what I read). I'm pretty sure discord would handle all of the issues I just brought up and even better allow sticky posts to handle the really frequently asked stuff. You could leave a public discord channel or two for non-patrons to watch for announcements and to encourage them to become patreon supporters for access to the private channels.

2021-06-04 17:12:07 +0000 UTCYou can't. I find that while seated I can handle 3rd person view better and I enjoy seeing the character model/animations. I'm hoping that Luke eventually adds headset turning while in first person similar to what he did for the GTAV mod which would help with motion sickness a lot while playing in roomscale. Luke also mentioned in another set of posts here that he has some thoughts to pass the joystick motion on as simulated head movement to see if he can't get the same ASW/reprojecting benefits from the Oculus system that make looking around with the headset so much better. I don't know if he's had any luck there yet though. Other things that help me or I've seen others post: use the overlay to switch to mono vision and turn slower with the stick,

2021-06-04 15:15:45 +0000 UTChey does anyone know if you can use snap turn on RDR2? the smooth turning + low fps is giving me motion sickness

2021-06-04 07:56:55 +0000 UTCI was just reviewing the reasoning for not supporting oculus touch controllers in Luke's GTAV mod readme. I know for both games a significant issue is the lack of a d-pad and losing what is essentially four buttons for critical functions. There is probably also the issue that users of other headsets will be even further from having xbox controller emulation. Oculus does provide gamepad emulation via touch controllers and even has a mode that would allow turning the right joystick into a d-pad and view button (pressing down on the right joystick acts as the xbox view button). I'm not sure if the way the REAL mod works would allow Luke to turn on this "Right D-Pad Gamepad Emulation Mode" as easily as the developer page makes it sound, but if he could I'd give it a spin. My thought being that if I switch to room scale and use head turning instead of the right joystick, then that frees up the right joystick to emulate the d-pad... Per this page it supposed to allow games that use the Xinput API to use the oculus touch controllers without modifying code: https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/native/pc/dg-gamepad-emulation-touch/ I tried to force it on in "testing mode" via registry settings mentioned there, but I wasn't able to get it to work. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if the emulation mode just isn't kicking in since rdr2 isn't a true VR game. PS: I played hellblade in VR and I wonder if this emulation wasn't part of their VR port (at least the touch controllers felt more like a split xbox controller in that game anyway).

2021-06-04 05:56:12 +0000 UTCI will support you as long as possible! I could not get in to Red Dead before, but now I find it incredibly engaging. In a sense, you've opened the door for hours and hours of content and fun. I know this was (is) hard work for you. Thank you so much, and I sincerely hope you can make a permanent living this way. (assuming that's the goal)

2021-06-04 04:05:46 +0000 UTCI am a current subscriber and very impressed with the rdr2 mod. But to be a continued patreon, I think you need to rethink your strategy on VR controllers. Playing only VR for the last 5 years, I cannot go back to Xbox controllers or KB/M combos. Please consider this and I will be a regular patreon.

2021-06-04 01:54:01 +0000 UTCI am coming around to the idea that this is an investment in a person that is advancing VR in ways that the big studios just can't be bothered to do. It is bigger than the specific mods that I may be most interested in. To the AAA studios, the 2-3% market share that VR headsets represent on steam isn't enough for them to justify creating the VR ports (and the subsequent headaches of supporting them). But maybe there are enough of us to keep one talented developer focused. I hope you are able to keep up the momentum, attract more patreons and keep churning out more mods to advance VR to the point where it gains critical mass for the big studios to take it seriously. In an ideal world you'll be making so much money as an independent mod creator that you won't get snatched up by a specific studio and you will continue filling in the holes where the big studios fail even after VR is mainstream. $10/month as a subscription for VR content that just won't exist otherwise is easier for me to stomach than if I think of it as a cost per game I'd like to play in VR. I'm subscribed to the Luke channel for now, it has been a lot of fun so far. Keep up the good work.

2021-06-03 20:05:10 +0000 UTCI will be honest here, I only signed up for Patreon to get the mod for RDR2. But you know what, I think i might stick around. £8 per month is not a great amount and if I can help you help me have more great VR experiences, then its worth it. Any possibility of adding motion controller support into your mods? That I think would be the greatest refinement possible, although I am guessing also the most difficult.

2021-06-03 18:54:18 +0000 UTCThat's what he's saying, but he is happy that only 1/3 of the people did that for the reason you say, and 2/3 remain after having the mod

2021-06-03 18:51:18 +0000 UTCNo offense, but you went from 80 something patreons to 900 over the course of a few days. Of course, when you have 1100% gain in followers, not all of them are here to "support" you, they are here because you locked the mod behind a paywall(for now). I am not saying that is wrong, I am saying that it is obvious a lot will leave once they have the mod. Not everyone can spend $10 a month for the cause of supporting someone else's passion. Many Patrons never even used Patreon before, just to get the mod. Many were here simply for RDR2 VR and would have just been happy to spend $10 to try it out, as the game itself was on sale for $30-40. We all look forward to other mods in the future that you develop. Keep up the great work.

2021-06-03 17:07:45 +0000 UTCDevs confirmed they are adding native. First step was first person cockpit in vehicles. Very busy discussion thread on vr topic Hi mate he wrote CLOUDPUNK not cyberpunk. Cloud punk is an indie Dev making a delivery driver game set in a cyberpunk world. Not cyberpunk 2077!!

2021-06-03 00:49:05 +0000 UTCI think it was the Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick that said VR is a buzzword, don't expect R* to release either game in VR for a very long time if never, we are Lucky we have Luke making our dreams come true and I imagine this will start to become a trend or the norm for modders releasing VR support months to a year later. An official version of these games might even suck, Skyrim VR is pretty terrible without mods.

2021-06-02 19:13:59 +0000 UTCIt still boggles my mind that Rockstar can't be bothered to bring VR to two of the most popular games ever, especially when it's been demonstrated that one motivated and talented developer can do it all on his own! Thank you sir!

2021-06-02 18:14:23 +0000 UTCLuke, I’m totally digging what you are doing. You are listening to your supporters and fixing things as fast as possible. You are one of my favorite people on the internet. Of course, I’m sticking around! I’m not sure what game you decide to do next, but it’s going to be pretty hard to beat the GTA 5 and RDR2 VR experience. I am looking forward to possibly playing Cyberpunk, Far Cry, or a ton of other games in VR. I don’t have a lot of experience with Discord or tier systems so I’m neutral on that. Keep up the great work bud!

2021-06-02 15:08:47 +0000 UTC@Luke - Completely agree with Marlec here about the Discord channel. It would allow you to have different Tiers (I, for one, would be happy to contribute more) plus keep conversations much more usable. This Patreon posting structure is very basic and I think makes it hard for first time folks to feel involved or heard. (Someone was trying to help me on a question and when I went back to find the answer I couldn't remember which thread the original posting was in.)

2021-06-02 14:47:24 +0000 UTCI think it is awesome what you are doing and hope to see even more. Games like Star Citizen, which is in Alpha to have VR support someday would be awesome. As far as with RD2 modding; after reinstalling several times, reading posts, following steps, for some reason I can not still get the the mod to work even with admin rights enabled and full permissions. But I am determined to get it to work and continue my support... :)
2021-06-02 12:44:29 +0000 UTCI feel like i'm getting far more than my money's worth, and i'm genuinely excited on any future projects you take on...because i know you'll do it well.

2021-06-02 11:20:22 +0000 UTCSuch a shame that quite a huge chunk up and left, I for one am in complete awe of the work that has been done not just for RDR2 but GTA5 aswell. I cant wait to see whats in the pipeline and will constantly support future endeavours.

2021-06-02 11:19:13 +0000 UTCI would love to see a list of potential future games that you want to work on and maybe add a vote system where patreons get to vote on your next project. I personally would like to see Far Cry 5 and Cyberpunk as they would be a good fit. Both beautiful openworld with vehicles and a first person view. Defo going to continue supporting you. @marlec I am sure FC3 will be getting native support once UBI are done with the exclusive fc3 experience. That is my hopes anyways FC5 is beautiful and I preferred it as location and visuals. Also it would be a straight up copy and paste to get the new dawn game working too Edit: also forgot Rage 2 could be another game that highly benefits from a VR patch. That one however would need First Person driving added but there is a built in camera mod where you can see all the vehicles have full interiors
