Version 1.0.1 EARLY ACCESS

Great news for Patrons with AMD graphics cards: the mod should now be working on your system!!! No more crashes or artefacts (hopefully).

Kudos to Nicolas Lo Bianco and all the other users who helped me with remote testing: your help has been invaluable!

I also added an important optimization that should make the game more fluid for all users. Don't expect miracles of course, but GPU usage should be improved and there should be less judder for certain configurations. NVIDIA users, let me know if it works any better for you.

Finally, I have increased the resolution scaling for the Very high preset from 3:2 to 2:1, as the step down from Ultra to Very high was perhaps too abrupt. If you were already using the Very high preset, to see the changes you will need to run RealConfig.bat again. Expect further tunings to the presets in the future, I am listening to your feedback.

You can find the mod at the end of this post in the attachments section. Please don't repost anywhere or republish on any other website.

The Quick Setup instructions are essentially unchanged, but for convenience they are also attached down below.

Enjoy!

yea, mono is as if your ipd would be reduced to the one of a mosquito and you perceive no depth/parallax.

FlyingWaffle

I did some more comparison testing and agree that even in mono the game is far more immersive than pancake. That being said, running the .bat file for ”low” and manually setting the resolution to 1440x1400 @ 90hz is giving me a good 80-85 fps in sterioscopic. Im on a 2080ti, 64Gb ram and an i7 processor. Need to pad my jaw as it keeps hitting the desk as missions go by...

Solomon Ginsberg

Use the radar, it helped keep vitals in viewing angle? I have not played with the screen size yet, but may be worth a fanagling.

Epic Dad

Yes, it is great that the option is there, or we would be stuck with the jiggly "3d" stereo rendering. Stereo works fine in most vr games, but there are limits to this per current hardware/software as demonstrated by this mod.

Epic Dad

Mono renders the in pancake style right? It feels like it.

Solomon Ginsberg

Mono works great, thanks! Only now I’m having trouble seeing the map and HUD text. Any suggestions on how to tweak the hud?

Colin

Turn look sensitivity down to 1 in both 3rd/1st person and to remove annoying frame shake from the picture and the vr game in general, in the overlay change rendering to Mono.  Also, if you are on a lower end machine pick the Low setting and then turn up the rendering scale to what your machine can handle, max is 2.5 I believe(you might have to change this in the Xml settings file from Luke). Hit me up if you need to figure out how to do this. Combine the Mono from the overlay and the render to 2.5 from(graphics settings in the game) for the smoothest experience in vr and on your monitor for others to watch.

Epic Dad

I have AMD RADEON. I Refuse to disclose the rest of my specs due to a toxic community, nothing to do with you David lol and trust me, my pc is all good.

pete

Thanks David. This is crazy, now I did a clean re install of the game, and the mod is still somehow attached to the game. I never tried "re applying" the mod to the fresh new install. How did the mod reinstall itself? Maybe those files from the mod are still there? I need to remove all rdr2 files from the pc? Also the mod does the same thing. It just shuts down the game after it starts up. It starts up the oculus software, there is nothing in the headset other than the oculus home, then the game quietly just stops operation.

pete

Eat a snickers Karen

reinstall would work - can also copy the settings_ori.xml file over top of the settings.xml to return to flat mode - if you have a geforce card the geforce experience optimizer will also set you back to flat - I've been switching between flat and VR to compare them since my original playthrough of rdr2 was on xbox and I wasn't familiar with the flat pc experience

TeQuilYa

and how do i uninstall it? Do i have to reinstall the game now? What a waste of my time and money. The readme is so simple. I followed it, and this is it lol what a letdown.

pete

YOu come here, pay 10 bucks and for what. to work on this for 2 days? Who knows when a response will come to help me lol.

pete

Game doesnt work now. I followed all the readme instructions. All i get is the twirling R* symbol, then the popup from the mod, and then the game shuts down.

pete

I noticed the same when tweaking the settings.xml configs before the 1.01 release, I was adjusting a config that had come from the 'very high' source file. After 1.01 I didn't find that necessary as Luke had adjusted a different parameter very high to similar effect so I just left that for now. And if you do change the resolution though, change both to maintain the square view.

TeQuilYa

When you say "config file", you mean that you have updated one of the XML in the Settings folder (either system_1ultra.xml or system_2high.xml, etc) before applying them with the RealConfigRunAsAdmin.bat, right? And which one did you change to 1440? The width or the height? :) Thanks!

Lucas LEBIED

Hi =D i changed the resolution in the config file from 1080 to 1440. i feel everything is sharper than when i increase the detail levels. Is this really the case or am I just imagining it? best regards

I also wonder this same thing. This is my exact experience on a 3090. What I noticed is that the FPS doesn't seem to change much between turning my head and moving the stick. What DOES change is the appear on screen. @Luke - after the troubleshooting settles down, is this something you could look into next? It would seem to effect the most people.

Scott Carson

Can someone explain why head rotation is super smooth no matter how fast you do it (like looking on the sides while galloping full speed on a horse is very nice) whereas rotating the in-game model position (using smooth rotation on the stick) is showing the alternate frame artifact and a ton of blurring? I really don't get why it has to be the case since head rotation can be done at full 360 degrees, which shows that the in-game engine camera is actually rotating. If in-game rotation could be done just like head rotation (maybe when pressing a special key), it would make comfort so much better - especially if you play sitting on a rotating stool (which would allow physical rotation).

FlyingWaffle

Loving it! Decided to finish the entire campaign in VR although I only have a mid-range RTX2080 MAX-Q in my Razer laptop. Playing on high is manageable, although I have to confess I'm dreaming of a better GPU now :). In any case, being inside this game is fantastic compared to playing it on a flat screen, even without hand tracking.

Kris Van de Vijver

love it! keep up the good work man

Jade Holznagel

Yep me too it is cool however

whats INI, and does it possibly help with rift S aswell

Tormod Brynestad

im trying to delete all mods there is in both the rdr2 and the realvr folders, then install the new one

Tormod Brynestad

how to disable the mod, or do i need to delete all files ?

Nedo Braun

If anyone has a Quest 2 and is using a GTX 1070 or 1080 graphics card or equivalent I have uploaded a couple of tweaks with RDR2s INI settings, you can get it on my Patreon page, it looks amazing on Quest 2 with Air Link. Hope this helps all you Questers. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=10057987

The Merote

yeah I want to know this too. Do I have to uninstall your last mod in order to run this one? Or I just download it again and paste on top your previous mod?

How do i reinstall without having to dowload the game over again

Tormod Brynestad

I'm using a GTX 1070, Medium runs as smooth as butter, I have 20gb ram i7 5930k. The distance is a bit blurry, kinda like having short sightedness, I reckon it would run perfect on High with GTX 1080 but I found its still a bit blurry. (bit of a strain on GTX 1070 too) I teaked the settings so its super clear in the distance, the issue now is closer textures are very low. I might post my Settings ini's here if anyone wants to try them out if you have GTX 1070 or 1080.

The Merote

Do you think the mod is going to work ok. With a gtx1080 ti? I’m supporting either wany. Great work

I don’t know if this will help or if you have already done this but Luke posted this on the troubleshooting page UPDATE: If you have verified that you are not running anything elevated, yet still cannot work around the issue, try downloading the additional "RealConfigRunAsAdmin.bat" file that I'm attaching down below, putting it into the game folder next to RDR2.exe and the other mod files. Then, right-click on the file and select "Run as administrator", selecting your preference of settings and checking that there no errors are reported. If after that operation the mod finally loads when you start the game, please write it in the comments so that we can confirm that the solution works!“ you will have to get the link from the troubleshooting Page at the bottom Hopefully this helps you

Hello everybody I wanted to ask for some help, I can't get it to work for me in VR. The first installation worked the first day, everything perfect, the second day it no longer worked in VR, I have reinstalled all games and mods but the results are negative. If I install the fair game, the game runs in full screen, if I install the mod the game runs in a small screen, everything works without errors but I cannot play in VR. The first time I installed the mod on the game files, everything worked correctly. I have used two VR headsets, PIMAX 8K + and Oculus Quest 2, the first time I work in VR I used PIMAX 8k +. Now with neither of the two viewers it works, I may be missing something, I have reinstalled everything as the first time it worked, I still have not gotten it to work in either of the two viewers. Can someone help me to solve this problem. a greeting

The ghosting when turning with the stick is a consequence of the alternate eye method. But the shimmer r around people, is even when you don't move, I wonder what that is.

Cercata

That would probably add to head turning the same artifacts that when you turn with the stick

Cercata

I get that shimmering to and wonder how to remove it :)

Really enjoying the mod, just tinkering with settings to get a good balance between framerate and quality. Ultra is a little too low frames wise, so looking to tune Very High to more of my liking. One thing I have noticed on either setting is a bit of shimmering around objects, is that due to TAA? Would disabling TAA and implementing some other form of antialiasing be a viable option?

Sathias

Hi I keep getting a ERR_GFX_STATE error asking me to reboot. Fresh install and then added the mod....Any help at all please

3ree

Works great for me. You can also drop the zip into Nexus Vortex Mod Manager to be able to easily enable/disable it.

sucklead

After tweaking a bit from Ultra I was able to get it to stay locked at 90FPS with a 3090 and a 3900XT. When I turn my head everything renders smoothly but when I use my controller to turn or the game turns me I get a bunch of weird stuttering/vertical striations. Also when looking at NPC's I see a shimmer around them, at night time in the right light the shimmer turns into a kind of transparent version of the NPC. Overall it is running smoother and my GPU usage was at about 90% while I played. I did crash while doing a mission but it was around Valentine so that may have been the reason.

Samir

Anyone else feel a bit too close to the looting bodies? It's like you can't see them because they are passed the focus point. It's not a big deal but a bit uncomfortable on the eyes

WIG

Try rolling back your graphics drivers, uninstalling other mods, or reinstalling the game. A lot of people get this on the latest update even without the VR mod, so I'm pretty sure that's on Rockstar's end.

I'm getting crashes with the new version. "Unknown Error: FFFFFFFF". I load up in Valentine, walk into the Sheriff's office and get the snake-oil bounty bounty, I head north on my horse and get the error right on the edge of town. In case it's related, the first time I went to run the game with the new update, I had a problem where the menu wouldn't come up when I hit 'start' on my gamepad; the world would shift to the "menu" view (a low res sepia toned filter over everything) but the menu options (Map, Settings, Quit, etc..) wouldn't display. A reboot seemed to fix that, but now I'm blocked to actually play without a fix for this FFFFFFFF error. I'm on a 5600x and 3090. Latest version of Steam, SteamVR, Windows, etc.. with the latest version of the mod (1.0.1)

Michael DePalma

Any way to move the hud out of the way when clean and inspect the weapons?

Did you load the mod on a fresh install without letting the game run first unmodded? I was having this problem before I let the game run first unmodded for a bit then installed the mod. Then it loaded up VR just fine.

Hi! Likely the problem is just my potato PC, but I have the game loading up 2d, like I'm looking at a big floating screen when I'm in my headset. Followed the setup instructions exactly, but I can't seem to load into anything but this flat version. Any easy fix for this?

Would it be possible to make the body rotate with the head when on foot?

Runs smoothly on my GTX 1660 Super / Ryzen 5 3600 on Medium. As does GTA V. Hoping next will be Cyberpunk :D -- Most recent happy patreon of Luke Ross's work :)

Miguel Augusto

Are you using SteamVR? I found that for some reason I couldn't access the menu overlay when using SteamVR. The overlay comes up fine when I use the Oculus renderer with my Quest 2.

william mumford

I now get 60 FPS in towns compared to the 20-30 I was getting before. This update made a huge difference for me, thanks!!!

He's 1 guy working on a massive project, with 728 patrons to answer questions for. The fact that you have to pay for it is the reason he's able to work on it full time and make it work as good as it possibly can. Not even RDR2 itself worked for most people on the first week of launch lol

I think asking people for money on a product that may or may not work for them is not cool. Maybe let people download the mod and if it works for them then they should donate. For me it's just $10 and hopefully it goes to support better accessibility in the future, but for me I've tried everything and getting no help from the modder, this doesn't work for me.

Thanks for getting this running on my AMD! It looks great EXCEPT when turning using controller or any fast motion. Its like the stereo is having a hard time rendering any idea on how to fix on AMD? its like being cross eyed haha. ( im on LOW and working my way up) Head movement is fine though no matter how fast I look around. I also noticed some fringing/ghosting around characters. Not complaining it looks amazing. just hard to play. ASW is disabled.

Josh Atchley

Still having q3 problems too :( (after clean installtaion)

No more artifacts in towns, nice :)

Cercata

Run the Low setting and then set Rendering Scale to 2.5. That will give you around 70fps but the increase in sharpness is well worth the fps drop imho

Andre Warringa

I’m still having Q3 problems and I can’t figure out why I have done everything that was suggested from the community and Luke for other people to try having the same problem and nothing seems to work I am running i7 6850 gtx1080 128g ram I have Duel graphics cards and tried SLI on and off

I'm having an issue where when I extract the files into the game file when I try and start the game it kicks me with err_gfx_state message. The game runs fine before the mod file installation. Running the steam version on quest 2 with airlink. Went step by step with the read me file. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

There's an OpenXR Developer Tool you can download on Windows 10 (from the Windows app store). That's what players on Reverb G2 use to control things like ASW in Flight Simulator.

FlyingWaffle

This finally works on my AMD system! I'm so glad! That being said the one problem I'm personally dealing with right now is that the game looks very juttery in my headset like I'm viewing the game through moving window blinds. I've seen tutorials where youtubers have mentions turning off ASW for Oculus headset users or Motion Smoothing for native SteamVR headsets but I don't have either option for my Windows Mixed Reality headset. Could this be the culprit? Is there anything I can do?

I'm not sure if this is specific to OpenXR (for Reverb G2), but TAA just looks awful (looks like a first gen PSVR game), it's as if it's using a render buffer of much lower resolution. With v1.0.0, on my RTX 2080Ti, I ended up turning the OpenXR scale to 100% and the in game over sampling to 2:1. With all anti-aliasing off, and then most settings on Medium. I then get 80/90 fps.

FlyingWaffle

As far as I know, it becomes gta. And he said that Luke deliberately applied the technique.

There is no way to enable quick turn rotation, right? (as opposed to smooth continuous)

FlyingWaffle

Still strange when using the controller to turn the field of view. It's okay to move your head. Please give me the option to render two eyes at a time plzzzz

Hi Luke, still, no REAL menu overlay whenever I press pause ('esc' key or 'P' key) and then both triggers with the RDR2 window being focused...

Yeap I got the same issue here with RTX3080 and 10700K. I got only around 5X Fps(60% usage) with Ultra, V, M settings which is so weird becasue I saw others got higher FPS with lower specs ! 1.0.1 didnt fix this issue either. I also notice there's ripple whenever I turn with my right joystick. I think maybe it's a specific issue for 3080 cards. Please help to improve this thanks Luke! @LukeRoss

I just joined, so I don't know how gpu usage was on 1.0.0, but I get around 60% on medium (~50fps) with a 3080 and a 9900k. I hope this will get improved, because its not really pleasant playing VR under 90fps.

George Lambros

thank you so much. there is a different step going through the rockstar launcher? when I open the realconfig.bat file and select H it means "not found". and then to start the game how did steam vr go? thank you

Im sure you get this too often but how hard would it be to do fully interactive motion controls? I know that would take an absurd amount of code but is it possible? or could you just code the motion controllers to act as the mouse for aiming and shooting guns? If you did find a way then this would be the best vr game by far. Anyway great mod, keep up the good work.

Nick Tennery

Thank You Thank You Wonderful :-)
