not really

Does it work with Virtual Desktop?

Jesus loves you !

God's love sent Jesus to save us, not judge us.

This is the coolest experience in vr equal to gta5 or possibly better.

Hi I am new to all this and having trouble even getting to open the options using the pause button like Fn+pause break...the other problem I have is How do I open the game if steam is closed and it is advised not to use the shortcut I have tried for 2 days now and because I am pretty dumb at all this I would love to get it working I got the game through steam and I have followed the instructions the other issue I have is when I try to load the game a popup appears from my microsoft one drive with this message....Recently deleted:sga_volcan_final_init.vkpipelineCacheWindows...PLEASE HELP!

Just uninstall and then reinstall you will have a Fresh Copy of RDR2 Again without the mod. πŸ˜πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Still no luck on my end. Will give that a try. Thanks for sharing Shannon!

OK, so after hours of confusion, I finally managed to get VR to load. If you have a fresh install of RDR2 that you are trying this mod with, and the game keeps forcing theater mode when you have your headset on, you may need to reinstall the game and let it run *before* installing the mod. Once I did this, the game launched to VR with no problems.

Is there a good way to record my gameplay with one eye image only? Now the screen mirror shows both eyes.

Same, It's very laggy when I turn my head. Also on HP Reverb G2. Tried to find the @turn off Motion smoothing option in SteamVR but couldn't find it. Any help would be great

I get smooth framerates on RTX 3080, but when I turn my head, I get severe lag. Running this on Reverb G2 headset. Any tips on how to fix this?

This is the same problem I am currently having, except that pressing LT and RT does not bring up the overlay either. Let me know if you find a fix (the current suggestion of changing refreshRateNumerator value= to match your HMD refresh rate did not work for me

Ghosting could be caused by the way stereo works in these mods. It renders one eye and then renders the other eye after. So if you move your head quickly there is a discrepancy between what your left and right eye sees. Atleast that was true for the GTA5 mod, I haven't been able to run this mod sadly so can't say for sure.

Guys, could it be that the fps inside my headet is locked at 60fps because my tv is only 60hz. And that is maybe te cause of the ghosting i get ?

I followed the steps but I can't get past the loading screen before the menu shows up. Turns black and stalls there. Using Oculus Rift S on a 2080 8700K setup with 32GB RAM. Running the Epic store version of the game. It is funny because when I press Alt F4 I get the Red Dead UI asking me if I am sure if I want to quit, I can also get the overlay UI when I press LT and RT on my controller, so it is not hung, but I don't see the menu for the game etc for me to proceed, just a black screen.

Holy crap dude, this is amazing stuff! It looks absolutely fantastic on Ultra. You're a damn genius! Just a quick question tho. if I wanted to play the game on my monitor again, what do I do to remove the mod?

Jaxsolton

The resolution needs to be square, and that can only be set editing the xml file, not in the game menus. You can run RealConfig.bat again and select higher settings

LukeRoss

This time around I preferred this mode because it seems that's what most users expect, but I will consider adding back the old behavior as an option in future versions!

LukeRoss

English please, no spaghetti ;-)

LukeRoss

Nether here in Finland :D

In what menu?

Im not even playing the missions no more. Im just walking around the map en enjoying the few , just wow. These are views i dont have here in the netherlands :D Thanks for this mod Luke!

This is what I've been waiting for. Ultimate thank you, sir!

Ahhh ok perfect thank you 😸

WIG

You can raise the res scale in the ingame advanced settings. Needs restart after every change.

Hoshi82

Ok working well with air link but changing resolution requires restart as everything goes flat screen. Also changing Res affects the aiming. Does the resolution have to be the same like yours 1080 x1080? Should I run the bat file again to get higher resolution? Looks insane btw my jaw hit the floor. It's my first time playing red dead 2

WIG

Go to overlay and change to Mono instead of Stereo.

andy lee

Same here. Same issue with Quest. Does it need to be installed on C drive where windows is or something?

Cameron Rule

Do you guys also have this ghosting effect when moving ?

Great mod, thanks so much :) Had a small question. I noticed than unlike your GTA V mod, I cannot turn by looking in a direction with my head while moving, I have to use the joystick. Is this normal or is it a bug on my end? or not yet implemented like GTA V ? Thanks

Deehn

Got RTX 3080 and Hp Reverb G2. Wonderful mod! Keep up the good work! I would pay $100 for the mod to Cyberpunk or Kingdom Deliverance if you can do it.

andy lee

non mi funziona mi parte all'inizio ma subito dopo la schermata con il logo di rdr2 mi da schermata nera...

I also am experiencing the same thing as FlyingWaffle... "It's not working for me, I'm using the HP Reverb G2 (I can run fine stuff like DCS in Steam). If I launch the game when Steam VR is running (I press the big fat green "play" button in the Steam page for the game), Steam shows "Red Dead Redemption 2 does not support VR. It will appear on your desktop and my affect VR performance", and the game just runs on the desktop in a square window."

I don't see any RealVR64.log file being generated (where is it supposed to be?) [update] I followed the issues in the new troubleshooting post and it got fixed: I had Q6 and running realConfigRunAsAdmin fixed it. I then had the issue Q2, but when switched to OpenXR, I'm now properly in VR.

FlyingWaffle

I would love to see Mass Effect Legendary edition with full VR support, I recon it would be the most popular VR mod ever. Obviously I'm holding off every playing Cyber Punk until it gets a decent VR mod, Vorpx doesn't cut it.

The Merote

It's really early to say that...but I hope the next project will be CP 2077... omg this would be so freaking awesome! And the RDR2 Mod is great but I need a better PC.

Hoshi82

The game window flickers exactly for the reason you said, it just displays the eye that is rendering at the moment. I will probably fix it in the future, but it's not the highest priority. As you found, the best solution is streaming the Oculus Mirror!

LukeRoss

Thank you so much for your support and kind words! Fear not, I will certainly continue to fix the GTA V mod if/when Rockstar breaks it :-)

LukeRoss

So did a stream with medium settings on a rtx2070S and i9900k. Parts did kinda become a slide show, but no crashes and when it was running smooth and stream was running just find, The game window on the PC was doing a weird stutter effect not from dropped frames, but almost like it was switching between the view points. In headset it wasn't an issue, I was able to use mirror tool and every thing looked good on the stream. Kinda a bummer since game capture hides my chat where oculus mirror tool shows all. But overall nothing game breaking, in headset was mint, and was a hell of a good time.

Jesse Bliss

Dude Your GTAV VR mod is the hottest VR mod on the planet, I'm also loving your RDR2 VR mod but GTAV in my opinion is a far better game and I would have gladly joined your patronage and paid when you released it on github. My suggestion was if you were to put your latest version on the GTAV mod here so everyone can go to the same location to get it, I had friends who had trouble finding it on github, just a suggestion, its a completely polished mod and what I meant by updates is when Rock Star breaks it and you release a fix, I also use Patreon for creating VR content it's a great platform to promote your talent and my friend you are extremely talented pulling this off twice, I've been promoting your Real mod for the past year to friends and YouTubers, it's good to see you on here and things can only get better, keep up the great work man.

The Merote

Can you please post the contents of your RealVR64.log file?

LukeRoss

I thought about porting the GTA V mod to the new VR framework, but it's not a priority for the moment. Certainly most users are more interested in new games rather than an improved version of the GTA V mod

LukeRoss

With a 2060 you might begin with High settings, and then decide where you want to go from there. You can activate a frame counter from the mod overlay

LukeRoss

Hi Luke, do you think you might put any future GTAV Real VR Mod update on your Patreon aswell?

The Merote

Same - followed instructions - bat file ran fine, game starts in window on desktop. Using Quest 1 with Oculus Link, 3900x, 20280ti, windows 10

VR mode is not running on my Vive. Game's just launching in square window. VR overlay menu is running by "Pause" key, and nothing happens after pressing "Start VR". Rockstar Launcher version, Intel system, 2080 Super, HTC Vive

armax

I have this exact same issue. Installed game completely fresh. If it matters, I am on a 3090 with Ultra settings. I'm gonna try some other quality settings and see if that helps.

Scott Carson

I have it in Rockstar launcher and am trying to launch the game but can't seem to figure out how to launch it in vr

I don't know for sure, there are so few people with AMD cards that I still have to get definitive reports. Which card do you have? Did you try the mod already?

LukeRoss

i now see your message about it possibly bugging out on amd, dont know how patreon works so didnt know i could read messages before paying, i cant afford another patreon subscription, already canceled mine so it doesnt auto but in the future, will i have any guaranty to be able to play this before my sub runs out?

Tormod Brynestad

i have a 2070 with an amd 2700, i managed to get it working, but i dont get 1p aswell as even on low i get coppy frames, aswell as the bad graphics. I think my system should be able to handle more, any tips and/or help

Tormod Brynestad

Just installed started from a fresh install of the game, had to run game once in non-VR so that RealConfig.bat could execute properly. But now when i start the game, first loading screen shows but then it just goes to black. 3060ti with i7-9700f

Quick question: I have a i5 6600k OC'd to 4.3ghz along with 16gb of RAM and a 2060 Super. Managed the GTA Real mod with reasonably high settings, so wondering where I should start out with this mod's settings.

Fearganainm

The game does tend to crash a lot around Valentine, I'm not sure why but it's a known issue even in 2D (you can Google for it). Luckily it gets better when you move to other towns

LukeRoss

Could you post the contents of your RealVR64.log file, or upload it somewhere? Unfortunately I don't see an easy way of attaching files to these comments

LukeRoss

The batch file should just give a warning if it doesn't find a system.xml file, did you encounter hard errors instead?

LukeRoss

That is weird! There are already a few installation tutorials on YouTube, could you check out with them if perhaps you have missed a step?

LukeRoss

You should definitely NOT edit the batch file! The system.xml file copied by RealConfig.bat needs to go into the "Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings" folder, otherwise the game will not find it. What video card do you have?

LukeRoss

Is your SteamVR resolution set to 100%?

LukeRoss

As soon as the credits appear it should go into VR, well before you get control of your horse

LukeRoss

There could be something wrong with your system, because Cercata above in the comments reports 60-80 fps with the 2080 super. Perhaps it's time to refresh the Windows 10 installation? It's quite painless, takes about half an hour, doesn't delete any of your app/data and solves a lot of unexplainable problems

LukeRoss

Just tried it out and first impressions are, "Oh no.... this is how I lose even more hours of my life." For me the game would crash after about 10-15 mins for the 3 sessions I tried. I have an Index, 3090 GPU, and a 3900XT CPU and I used the Very High settings and it would run smoothly as long as I didn't turn too quickly. If I did rotate too fast I would get what I can only describe as screen tearing but vertical. I walked around and shot some things and I spent too much time just walking up and down Valentine. Really looking forward to updates!

Samir

Weird! That sound like a bug in the game itself though, I don't interfere with the gamepad controls at all

LukeRoss

Could you provide some details on your system (GPU, headset, ...)?

LukeRoss

Try verifying the game files from the launcher. That error usually comes up when the game files are corrupted

LukeRoss

You can select monoscopic rendering in the overlay menu

LukeRoss

Did you turn off "Use Desktop Game Theatre while SteamVR is active" in the Steam properties for the game? Also, how much VRAM does your graphics card have?

LukeRoss

In case anyone else runs into this, I changed to Very High from High and it fixed the problem.

Sathias

It should be set at 100%. Increasing it will have no effect, but going lower than 100% might blur the image without any frame rate gains

LukeRoss

Hmmm I feel like I have done something wrong but not sure what, when I start the game is just running in a 2d panel in VR rather than being in 3d... I did run the .bat file (on High settings), any idea what I've missed?

Sathias

close the game, run the batch file, select "Low" and then start the game again. Does it look different? Does it run smoother?

shut down the game. Run the batch file again, select "Low" and then start the game again. You will get the highest possible frame rate this way. And the graphics are still good enough.

BUG REPORT: When riding the horse, i press the A button to go a bit faster, and follow at their speed. But if I go to first person, and then back to 3rd, the A button no longer works (and actually brings the horse to a stop). I can only "follow faster" in first person now, 3rd person is always slow.

Game starts for a moment in vr then goes back to desktop, I followed the instructions step by step. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lgb160

it can not use.......error code:7002.1

Nice mod! How can I turn off the alternate eye feature?

andy lee

You can either press V on the keyboard or "Back" on the Xbox Controller.

Generic

Hey my pc runs out of memory and the game crashes. It shows the game on my monitor and in my headset, and it doesn't seem to be a social screen. I have the story mode purchased in read dead online, and I saw the warning that it will reduce performance being on both screens. How do I fix it to run only in the headset?

HELP! Please Please for the love of god how do you get the HP reverb G2 in 1st person mode in RDR2? OR any headset in 1st person mode.

Hi, started a fresh game (never played rdr2 before). Graphics seem blocky. I selected 'very high' and my gfx card is rtx 2080.

Outrunner85

Does steamvr supersampling affect performance of this game/mod?

Justin Davis

Ultra looks good but bad frame rate. 3080, i7 8700K, Index

Justin Davis

It looks terrific on a 1070ti with quest 2 and airlink. I use 5600x and only 8gb of ram but ddr4 and 3200hz. Thanks for another tremendous vr experience. We have gta 5 the present, red dead 2 the past and now await the future. Like a real west world and total recall.

God's love sent Jesus to save us, not judge us.

I'm using an Index on the very high batch file setting, and it looks low res to me. 3080, i7 8700K

Justin Davis

It seems you have to play the game past cutscenes to generate a system.xml file first THEN use the batch file.

Justin Davis

Hey Luke - the mod seems to be working ok except for a black bar across the top third of my display at all times. In cutscenes and gameplay - using an 3080 and rift s. Any help would be appreciated.

The batch file says there is no system.xml file. 0 file(s) copied. I put the mod files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Dead Redemption 2.

Justin Davis

Not working on my AMD 580X unless im doing something wrong. All I see is a glitchy unreadable square in the headset. I let the game run all the way till the VR portion and its just a bunch of lines. I have tried moving from oculus/steam vr/open Xr (using Quest2 Link, SteamVR) just FYI. Happy to support either way.

Josh Atchley

Hi Luke, I'm new here, came especially for RDR2. I installed everything step-by-step as explained in the guide. New Steam installation of RDR2, never played or ran it before. I'm using the Quest2 with the official Link cable and all SteamVR games are running fine. I can't get RDR2 to run in VR though. I'm seeing the game in my headset on a big, virtual screen, in a black space. Theater mode is disabled in the game properties. I even tried a '-vr' switch because it's not working, but still, the game only shows on a big, flat, virtual screen in front of me. Not even in 3D :). Changing the in-game camera from 3rd to 1st person doesn't help: both are on the virtual screen. I really have no idea how to start troubleshooting this. The only little issue I had while installing your mod was the Realconfig.bat file trying to find my system.xml in my personal documents folder, while it's in the game directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings). So I had to edit the .bat file so it could locate the system.xml (SET dst=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Dead.....). I think it worked because I'm seeing specific medium settings in the settings.xml and also the regkey was created mentioned in the .bat file. The videoCardDescription is wrong though (set to 3090 currently and I have a 2080 max q). Can you help me with this? Kris Van de Vijver

I have an Index with a 3090 and am also getting extremely low resolution even on ultra. I've tried the openXR setting and that does nothing to fix it. Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

When does the intro turn into VR? When we first get on horses or later? I'm using Q2 on airlink and wondering if there is a "theater" mode or maybe I need to be more patient. Thanks!

Tyler Johnson

Trying this mod on a 2080 super and i7. Just keeps crashing for me. I struggle to get it running normaly never mind vr lol. For some reason it crashes everytime i try 60 fps. Thats on normal mode as well. Plays perfect at 30 fps on normal mode at 1440p. Plays fine at 30 on high in vr as well but 30 fps in vr is a no no motion is so bad. Even tried lowest settings including lowest textures at 60fps but my rig says no. Just crashes. Any ideas im not sure my rig will be able to handle it at settings required.

Nicky Butler

I'm using a HP Reverb G2 btw

For me everything works until the gameplay starts. On my monitor I see everything perfectly (I see the screen with the camera moving with my headset), but in the headset everything is black (except the minimap and the text/icons). The menus work perfectly, but the gameplay is black.

Same. No go on my Index. Any Index users get this working?

Thanks for your kind words! Yes, at times you can see a slight shimmer around characters, trees and/or close objects. It's due to the fact that TAA as coded in the game is not aware of my stereoscopic camera, so it can fail to find good temporal matches around occlusions. Perhaps I'll be able to fix it during the next few weeks/months, or perhaps GPUs of the future will be able to run RDR2 with MSAA at VR resolutions without going all chug-chug, but for now it is what it is :-D

LukeRoss

Just like with GTA you've done the impossible. I found a sweet spot at the Very High preset with my 5900X/3080 system at 90fps on Index just roaming around. Though I notice halo-ing around edges. Can't remember if that was also in GTA. That aside, I know what I'll be doing this weekend. Thanks for doing what you do!

Any idea how to get this to work with a valve index? I own RDR2 on Rockstar launcher, but currently no way to get the game to launch in the headset after installing the vr mod.

Thank you for the support, let us know what frame rate you get with the 1070! Perhaps with Low settings it will still be playable. Sorry for your situation, this GPU shortage is getting ridiculous :-(

LukeRoss

This is excellent news. Haven't tried it yet but i expect i wont be able to run it well cos i only have a 1070. I did order a 3080 atm moment pre-orders went live but after 7 months of waiting MSI stopped making the Trio X card so my order got cancelled. Signed up anyway cos i have a couple of 100 hours on your GTA VR mod :) I also upped this news to N4G so that might bring in a few more patrons :) Many thanks for this Luke.

Marlec

Did you also use VorpX previously?

LukeRoss

Hi, Same as few people here. It's working great but resolution is very low. I've tried to configure OpenXR in overlay but it didn't make any difference. I'm using Valve Index and 1080Go, i7 8700k

What video card do you have?

LukeRoss

Unfortunately Microsoft is still working to fix their SteamVR driver to work correctly with alternate eye rendering. In the meantime you can try selecting the OpenXR renderer from the mod's overlay (in a few days I will write a post with detailed instructions).

LukeRoss

I am using Quest 2 and I have succeeded in running it. But when I use the controller to move the field of view, it gets very cut off and lag It was driven using an air link. Are the other Quest 2 users okay?

1080x1080 is just the game window resolution, internally the mod uses a much higher res (up to 2700x2700 with Ultra settings). You mean turning with your head or with the mouse/controller?

LukeRoss

Hi Luke, what a surprise this release! Just tested it quickly and everything works ok, but (compared to vorpx) the resolution is very low, 1080x1080. Do I understand from the readme that it's not possible to try higher resolutions? I checked the available ones but could not find any other boxshape resolution. Also when turning it's all quite blurry, more so than in the GTA5 mod. Is that normal or is something wrong on my end?

Andre Warringa

IΒ΄ve got massive Lag when moving my head, regardless of the settings I use. Reverb G2 with an RTX3080 and I7 10700k.

Which headset are you using? Are you using Air Link?

LukeRoss

I've got everything running well, but visual resolution is very low, even at "V" settings. I disabled "ASW" using oculus tray tool. Any other major causes of low resolution?

The .bat file is nothing special, just a normal batch file that can be executed from the command prompt. If you get the loading cursor, there might be something wrong with your Windows installation. Can you open a command prompt window and run the batch file from there?

LukeRoss

When I try to execute "RealConfig.bat", I just get the loading cursor indefinitely and the windows explorer window I used to open the bat file just hangs. No prompt comes up. Computer doesn't lock up, but I have to restart to get rid of the hung windows explorer window. All files are in the correct folder. I've tried re-downloading the zip a few times, so far no dice. Clean install of RDR2 in rockstar launcher.

Thank you for this, proud to support your endeavors.

Awesome, no alternate eye rendering, you see it sharp even when turning your head. I selected High in the .bat with a 2080 super, looks gorgeus, and seems smooth. It's working with Quest 2, with Reverb it didn't show anything in the HMD, in the screen it showed be some text about the real VR mod.

Cercata

OMG, RDR2 in VR for real !!!!!!!!! Eager to try it

Cercata

Haha, I have yet to make a public announcement! How did you find this page?

LukeRoss

Mate, this is huuuuuge! Found it completely by chance though, did I miss the announcement?

Thank you and welcome!!! The link is right there under the post

LukeRoss

I'm first! How do I download the mod?
