Irina's Happy Mistake 1

“Irina Denali it’s been too long. Welcome to Volterra.”Sulpicia’s voice rang loud in the throne room as Irina was escorted inside by four guards. She was led to a stop in front of three thrones on an elevated platform occupied by the three queens. Sulpicia, Athenodora and Didyme. Irina was extremely nervous to be before the trio and if wasn’t for the fact that the Cullens had broken such a serious law she would have steered clear of the royals. Thinking of the Cullens gave her the confidence to stand before them. The coven was breaking the law and after them not letting Irina kill the wolves in revenge of them killing her mate they deserved to be punished. It didn’t matter to Irina what her family said she knew Laurent was her mate and that meant that she had the right to avenge him. This likely would be her only chance.

“It has been a long time your majesty.”Irina said.

“So long I have to wonder what is so important you would come to us alone without at least your sisters by your side.”Athenodora knew that the Denali sisters never went anywhere without the other two. They would definitely not leave Irina to face the queens by herself.

Irina held back a wince thinking about her sisters. She knew they would not be pleased to hear that Irina went to the castle without them. Irina hadn’t told them about the child because she was afraid they would side with the Cullens like they did with the wolves.”I am here to report the Cullen’s crimes.”

“What crimes have the Cullens committed?”Sulpicia knew that young Edward’s human mate had been turned so she was curious what crime they could have committed.

“They have created an immortal child.”Irina jumped back when all three queens and many of the guard growled at her.

“Give me your hand.”Sulpicia demanded.

“Of course your majesty.”Irina didn’t hesitate to approach the queen and hold out her hand.

Sulpicia took the hand in her own, closed her eyes and sorted through Irina’s memories. A few things stuck out the most concerning being Irina seeing the newborn in the woods with a wolf, a female blond haired vampire and a vampire child.”Those idiots!”

“What did you see?”Athenodora asked.

“Irina speaks the truth.”Sulpicia didn’t know what the Cullens were thinking breaking such a law.

“This is just one more way that the Cullens have been defying the laws.”Didyme said.

“We should have killed them after the incident with the newborns.”Athenodora had pushed for a death sentence but Sulpicia and Didyme overruled her.

“I hate that I fought you on that ruling.”Didyme regretted that they hadn’t prevented a child from being turned.

Before anyone could say anything else the throne room doors flew open and a tall, brown haired, orange eyed, very attractive woman, wearing a three piece suit complete with shined wing tipped shoes walked into the room eating a goat’s leg. She paid no mind to the occupants of the room as she walked straight to Sulpicia and sat in her lap.The queen immediately wrapping her arms around her.”Why are the three of you upset?”

“Don’t speak with your mouth full Isabella.”Didyme scolded.

“I wouldn’t be if you didn’t interrupt my dinner. Now why are you upset?”Isabella asked again.

“Irina here has brought us news of a coven that created an immortal child.”Athenodora told her.

Irina took a step back when the woman Isabella growled louder than the queens. She was contemplating on how to get out of there alive when she caught the woman’s eyes. Suddenly all that fear was replaced with the overwhelming feeling of love and attraction. This person was her mate.”What the hell?”

“Interesting.”Isabella jumped off of Sulpicia’s lap and approached Irina. She took her face in her hands and gently kissed her on the lips. Pulling back she smiled at the dazed look the vampire was giving her.”I see.”

“What is going on Isabella?”Athenodora hated being the last one to know things.

“This fine vampire right here and I have a soul bond.”Isabella told her not taking her eyes off Irina.

“I thought you were avenging your mate?”Sulpicia had seen Irina’a memories of her and Laurent claiming they were each other’s mates.

“He wasn’t my mate.”Irina was completely sure of it now and hated herself for all the trouble she caused her family because of that belief.”I made a mistake.”

“How old are you?”Isabella asked.

“Over a thousand years old.”Irina told her.

“And when did you meet this false mate?”Isabella was asking to confirm a theory.

“A year ago.”Irina wished she had never met the man now.

“You have been alone so long it’s no surprise that you would cling to the first person who made you feel anything. Did he tell you you were mated?”Getting a head nod made everything clear to Isabella.”Of course you would think it then. What his motivation for leading you on is another issue. Is this man dead?”

Irina nodded.”He was killed by a pack of wolf shifters that have an alliance with the Cullens.”

“Wolf shifters you say?”That peaked Isabella’s interest.

“Yes I was going to bring you the information after the meeting was over. Apparently the Cullens are friends with a pack of wolf shifters who believe their purpose in life is to eliminate vampires.”Sulpicia smiled when Isabella laughed.

Isabella took another bite of her goat leg while she thought this through. Once done chewing she spoke.”So the Cullens have created an immortal child and kept the existence of wolf shifters from you. Is there anything else I’m missing?”

“No I think that is about it. Unless Irina has anything to add.”Sulpicia said.

Irina shook her head.”No your majesty I don’t have anything to add.”

“So what are you three going to do about it?”Isabella asked as she went back to her goat leg.

“This is not the first time the Cullens have broken a law.”Athenodora was hoping this would be the thing that led to the Cullen’s deaths.

“What have they already done?”Isabella asked.

“A little over a year ago Carlisle’s first turned came here asking us to kill him because he thought his human mate had died. It turned into a big mess when the human showed up to save him. We sent him on the way with a warning to change the human as soon as she graduated high school. We thought that would be the end of it but apparently they killed a vampire and left his mate alive. The woman in her grief created a newborn army that the Cullens didn’t inform us about.”Sulpicia was cut off before she could continue.

“I told you to kill Carlisle the day he first came to the castle.”Isabella reminded them.

“I know sweetheart but he hadn’t broken any laws then.”Sulpicia wished that they had listened to Isabella but they hadn’t.

“So if he failed to report the shifters and army how was he punished?”Isabella asked.

Athenodora glared at her mates.”Go on tell her what you did.”

“We let them go with a warning.”Sulpicia flinched when Isabella growled at her.

“Isabella calm down.”Didyme scolded.”Yes we were wrong but you have no right to growl at any of us.”

“I have every right to growl at you or do you not care about the innocent child that has been sacrificed because you let them live.”Isabella had more than enough reasons to growl at how stupid the queens had been.

“Of course we care about the innocent child.”Sulpicia was highly insulted that Isabella would think otherwise.

“How are you planning on cleaning up this mess?”Isabella asked.

“It’s something that needs to be discussed.”Athenodora knew what she wanted to happen but would have to involve the other two queens in the conversation. At least she would have Isabella on her side as the woman was ruthless when it came to law breakers.

“What is there to discuss? They should all die for not only committing the crime but trying to hide it.”Isabella said.

“Isabella they may not all be guilty of a crime.”Didyme told her.

“We could summons them but they would run.”Athenodora knew that the Cullens wouldn’t respond to the invitation.

“What do you think Irina?”Isabella asked her mate.

Irina thought that she would rather be somewhere alone with her mate instead of dealing with this.”The Cullens follow Edward’s lead. Carlisle may be the figure head but it is Edward and Alice who make the decisions. Jasper goes along with Alice because they are mated. When it come to Rosalie, Emmett and Emmett’s mate Joy Carlisle has tight control over them. I personally think he uses the sire bond to keep them in line. I don’t know Edward’s mate Lauren but from what I was told she is not a nice person and bullies others.”

“When I read Edward I learned that he actually wanted Rosalie for a mate but she rebuffed him when she was human and then when she became a vampire. There is a lot of hate there and from reading the three of them Rosalie was not treated well.”Sulpicia wished she could interfere but sire bonds were only broken when the sire was dead. It was another reason she regretted not killing Carlisle.

“And you let her stay in that situation?”When she got three reluctant head nods Isabella took a deep breath and exhaled through her nose.

Irina jumped back in shock when a trail of smoke exited her mate’s nostrils.”What the fuck?!”

“Don’t worry I can’t hurt you.”Isabella assured her.

“What are you?”Irina hadn’t really taken the time to focus on her mate with everything else going on but now looking at her strange colored eyes and watching her eating food it was obvious that Isabella was not a human or a vampire.

“We will deal with that after we deal with the Cullens.”Isabella wanted the Cullens dealt with.”Now then it’s obvious the coven needs to be punished. I will listen to suggestions before I make my final verdict.”

“I think the obvious thing to do is kill Carlisle, Esme, Jasper, Alice, Edward and Lauren.”Athenodora said.

“I think that we should kill the parties involved in the creation of the child and leave alive those who weren’t.”Didyme hated killing anyone but in this situation it called for death.

“I agree with Di. We kill all the parties involved in the creation of the immortal child.”Sulpicia thought that was fair.

“When should we leave?”Isabella asked.

“The young newborn saw Irina and probably knows of her coming here.”Sulpicia had seen it in Irina’s memories.

“Then the Cullens will either run or gather allies.”Athenodora concluded.

“I doubt any vampires would ally themself with a coven breaking such a law.”Didyme couldn’t think of anyone who would be ok with turning a child.

“Who would they call for help?”Isabella asked Irina.

Irina thought through her conversations about the Cullens.”The Egyptians, the Amazons, the Irish coven and a few nomads. I’m not sure who else Carlisle talks to.”

“Do you think that the Cullens would reach out your coven to try and stop you?”Sulpicia asked.

“I don’t know.”Irina didn’t like that she didn’t know but she didn’t.

“They will know you came here because you have disappeared from Alice’s visions. So they know we know of their crime. That being the case we need to act fast.”Isabella began putting a plan together.”Collect enough members of the guards to restrain each member of the coven. I will go personally and detain them and bring them back here.”

“I’ll gather some of the royal guard. Will you be traveling with them on the jet?”Athenodora asked.

“Yes, I would like to experience these planes you all told me about.”Isabella said.

“You don’t know what a plane is?”Irina thought that was incredibly odd.

“Yes of course I know what a plane is I’ve just never seen one in person or ridden on one.”Isabella told her.

“Why not?”Irina didn’t understand why her mate would not have experienced a plane if she went on missions. Then again Irina had never heard of Isabella before and it was obvious she was close to the queens. Close enough to make decisions for them.

“I was asleep.”Isabella said like it was the most obvious reason in the world.

“I see.”Irina didn’t but this wasn’t the place to question it further.

“With that said I’m going to go finish off the rest of this goat and collect a few things.”Isabella turned her attention to Irina.”Would you like to come with me to confront the Cullens or would you rather stay at the castle?”

Irina thought about how comfortable she would be in the castle without Isabella.”I would rather come with you.”

“Good. Irina is coming with me. She can be our point of contact so I don’t have to use one of those mobile telephones you are so fond of.”Isabella told the queens.

Didyme sighed.”Isabella you need to learn to use one because that is how everyone communicates these days.”

“I don’t care. It’s creepy having an object being able to transfer your voice anywhere in the world. Who knows what the consequences such things have on one’s soul.”Isabella didn’t trust such witchcraft.

“You think a cell phone steals your soul?”Irina had never heard of anything so silly.

Athenodora laughed at the incredulous look Irina was giving Isabella.”If you think that’s crazy you should have seen her react to seeing a television for the first time.”

“That being something else I don’t trust.”Isabella grumbled.

“If you don’t like technology how are you going to react to the plane?”Irina asked.

“The plane is different. It’s an advancement of machinery. It has nothing to do with capturing the essence of an actual human being.”Isabella explained.

Sulpicia held up a hand to stop Irina from commenting.”It’s not worth it. You won’t change her mind.”

“Alright.”Irina said.

“Come on Irina let’s get moving I want to be at the Cullens before they scatter.”Isabella wanted to leave soon.

“I’ll have everyone ready within the hour.”Athenodora told her.

“Thank you.”Isabella made her way to the thrones and gave each queen a hug and a kiss on the cheek.”I will have Irina check in with you.”

“We will give you Isabella’s cell phone before you leave Irina.”Sulpicia would prefer that Isabella keep the phone on her person but was happy that at least with Irina there they would have some way to contact her.

“Ok.”Irina wasn’t sure about being in charge of Isabella’s cell phone but wasn’t going to argue with the queens. Following Isabella out of the room Irina wondered about her mate’s relationship with the royals. They were obviously close as she had seen Isabella not only give them cheek kisses but she had hugged them and had sat on Sulpicia’s lap. The queen hasn’t minded as she wrapped her arms around Isabella. Irina didn’t think there was a mate bond as the interaction seemed more familiar than romantic. It was just one of many questions she had for Isabella. Watching as Isabella finished eating the meat off the goat leg and started crunching on the bones that first question was going to be what type of supernatural Isabella was. Then she was going to find out if they could exchange mating marks because ever since she locked eyes with her Irina had been holding back from tackling Isabella and biting her neck. It was definitely not how she felt about Laurent and explained why he was so against exchanging marks. He must have known the entire time they weren’t mates. Irina didn’t know what his game was but knew that she would be apologizing to her sisters for decades to come for not listening to them about the man.
