Faceless Queen 1
Added 2024-08-14 16:41:53 +0000 UTC“Carlisle who is that woman sitting on the fourth throne?”Rosalie asked Carlisle. The pair were in Carlisle’s office decorating it and returning items that had been put in storage when they left Forks a few months prior. The reason being that Edward claimed they were too dangerous for his mate Angela to be around. It was Alice having a vision of Angela dying that had set into motion Edward going to Italy to beg the queens to kill him and Alice and Angela rushing to the castle saving him that led to them moving back. Rosalie thought the whole situation was stupid and had wanted to split off from the family but Carlisle insisted that she come with them because it would be hard to explain her not finishing her senior year with her siblings.
“Which woman?”Carlisle asked.
“That woman.”Rosalie pointed to a woman dressed in unfamiliar armor with various symbols on it sitting on a throne with a sword leaning against her side next to the other three queens which she knew the names of. The fourth woman with brown hair she had never seen before. In person or in paintings.
“That’s Isabella. The fourth queen.”Carlisle told her.
“What do you mean fourth queen? I thought there was only three.”Rosalie had never heard of anyone but Athenodora, Sulpicia and Didyme being queens.
“I’ve never told you about Isabella?”Carlisle would have thought he had said something about her.
Rosalie shook her head.”Not to me you haven’t and I’ve never seen this painting before.”
“I’m surprised that if I didn’t say anything that Eleazar didn’t mentioned her. Then again Isabella’s very presence unnerves him. If I’m being honest she unnerves me as well and most people she interacts with.”Carlisle said.
“What about her is unnerving?”Rosalie was very curious about anyone that could unnerve Eleazar. The man had been in the presence of some very intimidating people and had always held his head high. Never had Rosalie heard him say that he was effected by anyone’s mere presence.
Carlisle tried to think about how to put into words what it was like being around Isabella.”She has this aura of danger that clings to her. Around her you feel like prey to a very powerful predator. When she looks you in the eye it’s likes she looking into your very soul judging if you are worthy enough to be in the same room as her. It’s rumored she has a gift but no one has confirmed it. Not even Eleazar can get a read on her.”
“Why did she stop being a queen?”Rosalie didn’t know anyone who would step down from their roll of leader of the vampire world.
"No one knows but about 50 yrs into my stay they removed the fourth throne and she was never seen again. There were rumors of her being killed but no one knows what happened except the queens and they haven’t made any comments about it.”Carlisle had felt relieved when Isabella had disappeared from the castle. It meant he didn’t have to run into her anymore.
“Do you think she was killed?”Rosalie asked.
Carlisle shook his head.”No I have no doubt that she’s alive. There is no way that Isabella would die without a fight. It would take an army of vampires to kill her and she would kill at least half before they got to her. She was right by Athenodora’s side when they killed off the children of the moon. Her being quietly killed isn’t something that would happen.”
“What was she like?”Rosalie asked.
“Isabella rarely interacted with people. If you weren’t one of the queens those interactions were not pleasant. I actually spoke to her once and by the time the conversation ended I was in tears. I excused myself as soon as I could and fled to my room where I sobbed uncontrollably for almost an hour.”It was after that incident that Carlisle steered clear of Isabella.
“She made you cry?”Rosalie was very surprised that the woman made Carlisle cry.
“I wasn’t the only one she has made cry.”Carlisle wasn’t ashamed of the fact as it was almost expected that if you had a conversation with Isabella you would cry.
“What did you talk about?”Rosalie wanted to know what Isabella said to make her sire cry.
“Religion.”Carlisle told her.
“A conversation about religion made you cry?”Rosalie asked.
“I don’t wish to relive the memory but I will tell you that Isabella is very knowledgable about spiritual beliefs and expertly wielded that information to make me feel like every decision I ever made was the wrong one and that all my achievements were actually my biggest failures. It is said that numerous vampires have killed themselves after speaking to her and I will not lie I actually thought about it when she finished with me.”Carlisle only stopped himself after his roommate spoke to him and reminded him why life was worth living.
“Jesus.”Rosalie was now even more intrigued by the woman.”Do you know anything about her background or who her sire is?”
“It’s said that she is older than the Egyptians but I don’t know if that’s true. Other than that she is mostly a mystery. Plus no-one wanted to get caught speaking about her for fear of her finding out and coming after them.”Carlisle had witnessed what happened when you spoke about Isabella and it wasn’t pretty.
“Why is she so angry?”Rosalie wondered what happened to Isabella that made her hate the world so much.
“I don’t know much about her past other than her fighting the children of the moon but I think she has seen a lot of violence. That painting doesn’t show it but Isabella is heavily scared and the ones I have seen aren’t ones that were done by a werewolf or a vampire and were most likely done while she was human.”Carlisle told her.
“A woman alive during the time the Egyptians come from wouldn’t have had an easily life.”Rosalie mused.
“No they would not.”Carlisle agreed.
Rosalie looked over the painting.”What does the symbols on her armor mean?”
“I’m not sure. They weren’t anything I had seen in or out of the castle.”Carlisle told her.
“Interesting.”Rosalie made sure to memorize everything she could about the armor. She wanted to research it once she was done helping Carlisle. She had a feeling that finding its meaning would give her more information on Isabella.”Where do you think she has been hiding all this time?”
“I always thought that she moved to some place that was far away from civilization and lives isolated from the world. A place she could finally have a bit of peace.”Carlisle could easily imagine Isabella living in the wilderness.
“It’s kind of sad to think that she would have to live away from everyone to find some peace.”Rosalie would become lonely very quickly without having at least one person to talk to.
“If there was one thing everyone agreed about when it came to Isabella was that she was a tortured soul. You could see the way it pained her to be around other people. I really don’t know why she even bothered being a queen in the first place.”Carlisle could tell that Isabella didn’t enjoy being a queen.
“That just adds to the mystery.”A mystery Rosalie wanted to solve.
“I pray it always remains a mystery because I don’t think the world could handle Isabella back on the throne.”Carlisle said.
Rosalie just hummed in reply not agreeing with Carlisle. Taking one last look at the painting she got back to work organizing Carlisle’s office thoughts of Isabella at the forefront of her mind. Rosalie wondered what happened to the woman. It must of been something big that led to her stepping down as queen. Especially if no one knew why. Rosalie didn’t know why but she was overwhelmed with the desire to find Isabella and meet her. For some reason she felt like she and Isabella were kindred sprits both carrying the pain from their human lives. Her family didn’t understand the anger and hate that festered inside Rosalie from the events that led to her turning. Anger and hate that Carlisle hinted Isabella felt as well. It would be nice for Rosalie to talk to someone who understood her feelings as she had no-one. Not even a mate. Something that made her feel even more alone in a coven of mated vampires. Maybe Rosalie was pinning to much hope on finding Isabella but this was the first spark of hope she had felt in a long time and she was going to cling to it.
Comments
Oh I absolutely love the image of Carlisle bawling after being systematically torn down by Isabella’s scathing words.women with tongues of fire are honestly my favorite thing. I like that Carlisle has no shame in admitting his fear of her.
