My Own Worst Enemy 11

“How did you become the Volturi Princess?”Rosalie asked Bella. The pair were walking though the castle where Bella was showing Rosalie the various amenities the castle had to offer. Rosalie really wanted to see Bella’s personal wing. She was curious of what Bella’s personal space looked like because when she was human Rosalie never had the chance to visit Bella’s home. It was one of the many things she was angry at Carlisle about. Rosalie could have been happy with her mate these past few decades but because of him she wasn’t. With all the revelations that she had recently learned missing out on knowing how Bella decorated her rooms wasn’t the only thing Rosalie missed. How Bella came to be adopted by the queens was one of the biggest events. It made Rosalie wonder what other life changing events Bella went through. That wasn’t even getting into the familiar bond Bella had with the sisters. That being something she was also going to ask about.

“You are my mate so I am more than willing to tell you I just ask that you never repeat the story to anyone.”Bella didn’t mind telling Rosalie she just didn’t want others to know what happened.

“I promise not to say anything.”Rosalie was now even more intrigued.

“When Eleazar left the service of the kings it was with the condition that if he ever came across any gifted vampires that he had to report them to the kings. As you know when I was human I had a gift. It was decided by the Denali that they would wait until I was turned and had control of it before they informed the kings. When Eleazar did he also informed them of the familiar bond.” Bella said.

“What happened after the kings found out about you?”Rosalie asked.

“The kings summoned us to the castle under the guise of meeting the Denali’s new coven member. We all knew that in reality they wanted to figure out a way to force me into the guard. When we got to Italy we were met by a dozen royal guard members. The escorted us right to the throne room. We were all very nervous because we knew that we weren’t getting out the meeting without some kind of fight.”Bella remembered how scared she was when faced with all the vampires in the throne room.

“How did you get away?”Rosalie didn’t understand why Aro would have let Bella go freely.

“We didn’t.”Bella told her.”When we were before the kings Aro picked Eleazar to read first. His delight at what he learned was obvious. The problem was the kings made a big mistake when they exposed us to so many vampires.”

“What mistake did they make?”Rosalie wasn’t sure what the kings would have done wrong that allowed the Denali to escape.

“Aro ordered Chelsea to break the bonds I had with my mothers and redirect them to him.”Bella said.

“Chelsea broke your bonds?”Now Rosalie was even more confused on how they got away.

Bella shook her head.”She tried to but what Aro didn’t realize was that my gift protected more than just myself. We didn’t know either mind you because we never had a reason to test my shield other than work on the physical aspect of it. So when Chelsea tried to break our bonds I felt it. At first I didn’t know what the feeling was. While Aro was focused on asking Eleazar questions I whispered my concerns to Tanya and she was the one who realized what was going on.”

“I bet she wasn’t pleased to learn that they were trying to break their bonds to you.”If Rosalie was in Tanya’s position she would kill everyone in the room if someone tried to take her child away from her.

“She was not.”Bella confirmed. “She told Irina, Carmen and Kate about it and they were even more pissed than Tanya. I still don’t know why but the king weren’t even paying attention to us. Their entire focus was on Eleazar. After learning more about them I think they dismissed us so easily because they thought that five mere women weren’t any kind of threat. We will never really know. Not that it matters.”

“That’s why Carlisle fit in with them so well. He has no respect for women.”Rosalie said.

“Well unfortunately for him that lack respect was what led to Aro’s downfall.”Bella told her.

Rosalie tugged Bella by the hand to a stop so that she could make eye contact with her mate.“Wait a second. What you mean it led to his downfall? Did you have something to do with the kings being overthrown?”

“Yes we did.”Bella expected the look of surprise coming from Rosalie.

“No one has ever mentioned you or the rest of the Denali being there.”Rosalie would have thought that there would have at least been rumors.

“After everything was all said and done we asked the people there to not speak about our involvement.”Bella and her family didn’t want the complications that would come if people found out they were the ones to overthrow the kings.

“How did you actually defeat them?”Rosalie asked.

“Well as I said no one was paying attention to my mothers, me and Carmen.”Bella said continuing her story.”After going through our options it was decided that I use my physical shield to get Kate and myself close to Chelsea and kill her. While we were doing that Irina Tanya and Carmen would each go after one of the kings.”

“Did it work?”Rosalie was completely in shock that her mate and the Denali would be so brazen to plan to kill the kings right in front of them.

“It did but not the way we expected.”Bella said.”When the signal was given myself and Kate easily made it to Chelsea and killed her. The thing we didn’t expect was that most of the royal guards had been affected by Chelsea’s gift. Once she was dead all of the influence she had on them died with her.”

“Christ that must of caused complete chaos.”Rosalie had heard rumors of what happened but never heard the details other than Chelsea and the kings were killed and everyone was free of her influence. She had never considered how that effected what went down in the throne room.

“It did because some of the guards were being forced into false mate bonds with people who knew it was false the entire time. When the bonds were broken those who had been fooled turned on their false mates and tried to kill them. Jane with the help of Alec took out at least a dozen of the perpetrators.” Bella hadn’t seen it happen as she had been busy at the time helping to kill the kings.

“How were they able to tell who knew about the false bonds?”Rosalie asked.

“It was easy when most of them weren’t surprised or tried to stick to the narrative. Mostly it was the fact that they weren’t angry about it. I’m sure some were killed that didn’t deserve it but emotions were running high.”Bella doubted that everyone that was killed in the throne room was guilty but she had only killed Chelsea and the kings so she didn’t feel guilty about it.

“Why does everyone think the queens killed the kings? Were they even in the throne room?”Athenodora and Didyme had said they were the ones who did but Bella was claiming otherwise. Rosalie believed her of course she just didn’t understand why the queens took credit.

“Aro for some reason had them in the throne room that day. We never found out why but they think that he was trying to come off as harmless so that I would be more willing to go along with his orders and not fight him.” Bella said.

“But who killed him?”Rosalie asked.

“Tanya and Irina killed him. Kate and Carmen killed Caius and I killed Marcus.” Bella told her.

“You killed one of the kings by yourself?”Rosalie didn’t know how Bella could accomplish that.

“I did but I used my shield.”Bella wasn’t naive enough to think without her gift she could have killed Marcus. The man put up a really good fight and even with the training she got from Kate she wouldn’t have had a chance at defeating him without her shield.

“The part I don’t understand is if you were the ones who overthrew the kings why didn’t you or your mothers take the thrones for yourselves?”Rosalie figured that the sisters would have been crowned queens. It was their right as they defeated the former rulers.

“None of us wanted to. Even though the queens were more than willing to give us the roles.”Bella would never want the responsibility of running the kingdom.

“So instead of taking the role of queens which was your right you and the rest of the Denali gave the title to the queens and made everyone promise not to mention that you were involved?”Rosalie wanted to make sure she understood exactly what Bella was saying.

“We like our quiet life. If people knew what happened we would lose our privacy. That and the queens wouldn’t be as respected and they would be challenged constantly.”Bella said.

“That makes sense.” If it came out that the queens had no role in killing the kings Rosalie knew that many would question their claim to the throne. It being credited to them gave them the reputation of being strong enough to overcome not only false mate bonds but to do the unthinkable and kill their sires. That was something she had just learned vampires usually couldn’t do. If they could she would be able to kill Carlisle.”If you didn’t want to be a royal why are you considered the Volturi Princess?”

Bella sighed.”That is because the queens insisted and I didn’t have the heart to deny them.”

“What is your relationship with them?”Rosalie asked.

“At first it was a little uncomfortable because they had a fondness for me right away. They immediately claimed me to be their adopted daughter and wanted me to live at the castle with them to keep me safe.”Bella told her.

“I bet that didn’t go over well with your mothers.” Rosalie guessed.

“It did not. They weren’t very happy with the queens trying to claim me. I wasn’t to happy with it either. It wasn’t until after I spent more time with them after offering my services to help them establish their rule that I began to think of them as a second set of mothers.”Bella had offered to stay at the castle in the beginning to protect the queens from those who would think they were easy to overthrow. It had been a wise decision because in the first months the castle was almost overrun with assassins.

“Do you live at the castle now?” Rosalie hadn’t remembered any mention of Bella living in Alaska.

“I split my time between Alaska and Italy. That way both sets of mothers can have their own time with me. As a matter of fact this is supposed to be my time with the queens. I suspect because of that they are going to be extremely harsh to your coven.” Bella knew that the queens hated when their time was interrupted. When it was because of vampire business it guaranteed whoever the lawbreaker was was held to the highest extend of the law.

“My former coven you mean.”Rosalie wasn’t going to claim the Cullens as her family any longer.

“Once everything is over there will only be three of them left. I wonder what they will do.” Bella mused.

“It will be up to them to decide.”Rosalie wasn’t that concerned. They weren’t her problem.

“I can show you my wing of the castle now if you want.” Bella offered.

“I would like that.”Rosalie said.

“Let’s start with my workroom.”Bella was excited to show Rosalie all the things she had been working on.

“Why do you have a work room?” Rosalie asked.

“Because I like to invent things.”Bella told her.

“Like what?”Rosalie hadn’t known Bella was an academic.

“Well I invented the synthetic blood Carlisle wanted the queens to get for him.”Bella was very proud of that achievement.

“You invented that?”Rosalie was very surprised to hear that.

“I did. Plus a lot of other stuff. Come on I’ll show you.”Bella pulled on Rosalie’s hand and led her towards her workroom.

“I can’t wait to see it.”Rosalie happily followed along. She would never have guessed that Bella was the inventor of the blood. From what she knew Bella got horrible grades in high school. Rosalie had heard Edward complain about the lack of choices Bella would have for college. Rosalie couldn’t wait to hear how Bella had actually succeeded. She bet it was going to be an interesting story. Then again what she had already learned about Bella was interesting. Finding out it was actually because of Bella that the king were overthrown was something Rosalie would never had dreamed could happen. It was obvious that Bella was the only reason because there was no way that the Denali would have been able to kill not only Chelsea but the kings without Bella’s gift. Heck they wouldn’t have been able to fight off Chelsea’s gift without Bella’s help. Rosalie was now realizing her mate was kind of a big deal. Not only did she put the queens on the throne she also made it so vampires wouldn’t have to hunt anymore. That would open up a lot of possibilities for vampires in the future and make it less likely for them to be exposed to humans if they didn’t have to kill them to feed. Rosalie was excited to find out what else Bella had done. There was also the video game she created for Kate. Thinking about Kate Rosalie realized she hadn’t gotten the story about how Bella met the Denali. She would bring it up later. Now she wanted to see all that Bella had been up to in the decades they were apart.
