Reluctant Mate 1

“I don’t want to do this anymore Rosalie.”Bella said from the backseat of the yellow Porsche Rosalie was currently driving through the streets of Italy.When Alice had a vision of Bella dying Rosalie had immediately gone to Bella’s house to check on her best friend.Finding out that Bella had been cliff diving was concerning but Rosalie held back the lecture because Bella was not only safe but alive.As she called Alice’s phone to tell her the news Alice had stormed into the Swan’s house in a state of panic telling them Edward had heard her thoughts and thinking Bella was dead went to the Volturi to ask them to kill him.Initially Rosalie didn’t care as he was no brother of hers but when it was mentioned that if not the whole coven or at least Esme would be killed as well if Edward went through with his stupid plan to force them to kill him that Rosalie became concerned.Alice had begged Bella to come to help them make Edward see reason and although she was reluctant Bella agreed.

“Bella you have to.Not only do we need you to protect us from the sun but Edward will only believe you are alive if he sees you.”Alice told her.

Rosalie looked at Bella in the rear view mirror and noticing the fear in the human’s eyes made a decision.Bella using her full name telling her that she was terrified.”All right.”

“What do you mean alright?”Alice asked as Rosalie slowed the car down.

“I mean that if Bella doesn’t want to do this then she doesn’t have to do it.”Rosalie wasn’t going to force Bella to do anything even if it meant Rosalie’s life was at stake.

Alice turned in her seat to face Bella.”Bella you don’t understand.If you don’t help us not only will Edward die but the rest of us most likely will as well.”

“Alice enough.She said no.Leave her alone.”Rosalie demanded.She wasn’t going to let anyone guilt Bella into doing something.

“You said it wouldn’t be the whole coven.”Bella had been told only Edward and Carlisle would be at risk.Those two she didn’t care about as they never treated her that well and Bella knew that Rosalie hated them as well.

“It isn’t set in stone but if we are put before the queens those two will most likely blame the rest of us because I was the one who had the vision Edward saw in my mind.”Alice really needed Bella to help them.Although not likely there was still a possibility that the entire coven would die.Deciding to use the one thing that Bella would do anything for she continued.”And even though she isn’t a part of our coven anymore Rosalie will be blamed as well.”

“Will the Denali be implicated also?”Bella didn’t want her adopted family to get into trouble.

“It’s a possibility.”Alice said.

Rosalie didn’t exactly believe Alice but what she said did make sense.Rosalie may have joined the Denali coven after meeting her mate Victoria but she was still linked to the Cullens.That didn’t mean she wanted Bella to risk her life for them.She knew the coven would be pissed when they found out what had happened and Rosalie wasn’t looking forward to feeling Kate or Tanya’s wrath when this all came to light.”That doesn’t matter.What matters is that Bella has a choice.So if you don’t want to do this then no-one will force you.”

“I’ll do it.”Bella wasn’t pleased with the idea but would do anything she could to keep Rosalie and her coven safe.

“Rosalie hurry up.We only have a few minutes until he exposes himself.”Alice was beyond relieved that Bella agreed.She wasn’t sure what she would have done if she didn’t.

“You know even if we do make it in time I’m going to kill him.”Rosalie grumbled.

“It isn’t his fault.You know how he feels about Bella.”Alice said defensively.She and the rest of the Cullens truly believed Edward was Bella’s mate but Rosalie didn’t.

Rosalie knew what Alice was really saying.Although her former coven all believed the mate bond Rosalie never had.The fact that Bella feared Edward and always avoided him was just more proof of the false claim.“He’s obsessed with his singer.He is not her mate.”

“You don’t know that.Bella is human she doesn’t feel the bond yet.Plus Jasper confirmed it.”Alice’s mate had been one of the biggest supporters of Edward pursuing Bella.With his gift Jasper felt Edward’s feeling for Bella and claimed they were that of a mated vampire.

“I’m not Edward’s mate.”Bella didn’t believe it for a moment.Not only did she hate the boy but he was male.She didn’t like males.”The fact that I’m a lesbian should be the biggest sign that we aren’t meant to be together.”

“It’s because of your bond that you aren’t attracted to males.It keeps you pure for your mate.”The family had discussed Bella’s sexual preferences and after a long discussion it was decided that Bella wouldn’t be attracted to men because they weren’t Edward.Alice was a firm believer in that theory as it was the only thing that made sense.

“I can’t believe I stayed with you idiots for as long as I did.”The only good thing for Rosalie that came out of living with the Cullens was that she met her mate and it brought Bella into her life.

“Pull over here.”Alice chose to ignore the insult as it wasn’t the first time Rosalie had called her family that.It was just Rosalie’s personality though.Alice knew deep down she didn’t mean it.

“Bella no matter what happens don’t let go of my hand.I don’t care what is going on or what you are told you are to keep your hand in my own.”Rosalie wasn’t going to let Bella stray far from her when they were going into such a dangerous situation.

“I won’t.”Bella didn’t need to be told.She only trusted Rosalie.Bella wished that Victoria was with them as she knew the red head would keep them safe.

“Come on we need to hurry.”Alice looked at her watch impatiently.

“Calm down Alice.You don’t need to stress Bella out.”Rosalie scolded.She got out of the car and reached her hand out to help Bella get out of the backseat.She left the keys in the ignition because she knew they wouldn’t be coming back for it.It was stolen anyway so it didn’t really matter.

Bella gladly took Rosalie’s hand.She was very nervous but she could trust Rosalie to keep her safe.Her best friend never let her down.”I’m ready.”

“Good, we have to make it to the clock tower in 6 minutes.Since there is a festival is going on we have to fight through the crowd.”Alice was already walking in the direction of the clock tower impatiently looking over her shoulder at the slow pace Rosalie and Bella were going at.She wanted to run off on her own but she couldn’t because she needed to be close to Bella as the human’s gift stopped the sun from making a vampire’s skin sparkle.The problem was they had to be within ten feet of the girl for it to work.

“We will get there.”Rosalie held tightly to Bella’s hand as they worked their way through the crowd.Deciding it was better to have Bella closer she picked Bella up and followed Alice.She didn’t want her to be hurt by some random human jostling for position in the crowd.

“There he is!!”Alice exclaimed in excitement.She pointed to the clock tower where they all could see Edward starting to unbutton his shirt.Alice started running at a human pace towards her brother frustrated that she had to be so slow.It was just as Edward took a step forward that she crashed into his body causing both of them to fall to the ground.

“Alice?Why are you here?”Edward asked.

“Bella’s alive!!”Alice told him.

”No she isn’t.You are trying to trick me so I don’t go through with it.”Edward knew that Alice would do anything to stop him from dying.

“You’re wrong she’s right there.With Rosalie.”Alice pointed behind her where Rosalie was standing with Bella beside her holding hands.

“Bella?!”Edward looked over at the pair in surprise.He quickly got up and rushed over to Bella but was pushed back by Rosalie’s hand to his chest.He growled at the blond.”How dare you try and keep me from my mate.”

“She isn’t you mate.Now let’s get the hell out of here before you bring more attention to yourself.”Rosalie froze when she heard a female voice speak.

“But attention he has brought.Although the queens denied him an audience they were very interested in what young Edward was going to do.I imagine they will be quite surprised to learn that not only was Edward stopped but that his two siblings were able to be out in the sun without any effect to their skin.”The short female said.

“I will no longer be needing the Volturi’s services Jane.Please send my apologies to the queens for wasting their time.”Edward said.

Jane sneered at the boy.”You will get the chance to tell them yourself.They have sent me to bring you back to them.All of you are coming with me.”

“Bella why don’t you go enjoy the festival.”Edward suggested.

“Bella will be staying with me.”Rosalie wasn’t going to let the human out of her sight.Especially in a city filled with random vampires.

“No she will not.”Edward was not going to let his mate be exposed to the queens.

“That is not up to you child.If you don’t wish to go willingly I will gladly give you some incentive.”Jane would love for a chance to use her gift on a couple of animal drinkers.

“We will go willingly.”Rosalie shot Edward a look warning him to argue.The moron had already done enough damage.Not only had he put Rosalie and the rest of his coven in danger he had exposed Bella and her gift to the royals.Hopefully they could make the queens believe that blocking the sun was all Bella’s gift could do.

“Follow me.”Jane didn’t wait for the group as she led them through a large stone door.She knew they would follow.

“Don’t worry Bella I’ll keep you safe.”Edward promised as he held out his hand for Bella to take.When Rosalie moved Bella further away from him instead he growled.”Give me my mate.”

Rosalie growled right back.”She isn’t your mate.”

“You can’t keep her safe.”Edward knew Rosalie was weak and couldn’t protect herself let alone his breakable human.

“I can and I will.Especially from you!”Rosalie wasn’t going to let Edward get anywhere near Bella.He couldn’t be trusted.

“It doesn’t matter.We need to follow Jane.”Alice said trying to stop the argument.

Rosalie motioned for Edward to go ahead of them.”After you.”

“That’s fine.I can protect Bella better from threats if I’m in front of her.”Edward was happy to show how good he could defend his mate by taking the lead.He not only would be able to protect Bella from danger but from all the human drinking vampires in the castle that would no doubt want to drain his human.

“Sure.”Rosalie scoffed.At least with Edward ahead of them she could sacrifice him it it came to a fight.Something she was fully convinced was going to happen because Edward didn’t know how to keep his mouth shut.Rosalie cursed at herself for having a soft spot for Esme as that was the only reason she agreed to go along with Alice’s plans.That and because Bella had agreed and there was no way she was leaving Bella in the hands of Alice and Edward.Not only did she think that was a bad idea she knew her coven would as well.It would have been nice to have her mate by her side.Victoria had been extremely unhappy when Rosalie called her and promised that she would be in Italy as soon as she could.Hopefully they would be done with the queens and on their way home by the time the red head showed up.
