“I’m not doing it.”Hermione said to the visitor who walked into her shop without looking.She wasn’t surprised that the man had shown up.He came by often enough.Each time with a different request that usually resulted in Hermione’s life being put in danger.After the last incident with the basilisk at Hogwarts she told him she wouldn’t help him anymore.Hermione knew it wasn’t his fault that he kept getting dragged into these things but she wished he would leave her out of them.

“It’s life or death this time Hermione.”Harry Potter said.

“It’s always life or death.I told you I wasn’t going to get involved with that nonsense again.”Hermione motioned to the door without looking up from her project.”And you can tell Ron and Ginny that they aren’t fooling anyone by pretending to be window shopping.”

“How did you know they were there?”Harry asked.He always wondered how she always knew when someone was close and who they were without having to look.

“They are hard to miss.”Hermione wasn’t going to tell Harry how she felt their magical signature or the fact that she could actually feel magical signatures.Some things were best for other people not to know.

“Regardless we need you.”Harry told her.

“And I told you after the giant snake attacked us that I wasn’t helping again.”After finding out about the students becoming petrified at Hogwarts Harry had preyed upon Hermione’s fondness for their alma mater.What proceeded was a horrible experience that ended with Ginny petrified, Ron attacked by giant chess pieces and Harry attacked by keys.It was left to Hermione to kill the snake and once done destroy the diary that a second year was given by Lucius Malfoy to set the snake free.It was after she destroyed the book that the group were told about horcruxes.Those being another headache Harry was trying to involve Hermione in.

“Why is it you don’t seem to care about the Dark Lord’s return?You are a muggle born.He is specifically attacking your people.”Harry couldn’t understand someone with the most powerful magic that not only he had ever seen but Dumbledore as well, not wanting to use it to make the world a better place.Especially because she was considered the mad man’s main enemy.

“Look do I like the guy?No I don’t.Will I be inclined to join his cause.No I will not.That however doesn’t mean that I should join the other side.I live a peaceful life.If threatened I will defend myself but I don’t want to go looking for trouble.”Hermione told him.

“You could change the way this whole war is going by standing beside the Order and going against the dark side.”Harry said.

”I am never going to align myself with those bunch of idiots.”Hermione had no respect for the amateurs who tasked themselves with being the defenders of the light.In her mind they were a bunch of useless children who thought to much of themselves.

“Then align yourself with me.”Harry pleaded.He knew that they couldn’t do it without his best friend.

Hermione sighed.”What is the problem this time?”

“They kidnapped Sirius.”Harry told her.

“I thought he was supposed to be staying at the safe house so he wouldn’t get caught?”Hermione knew the man was wanted by the government for breaking out of Azkaban and was laying low so he wouldn’t get arrested.

Harry sighed.”He was but apparently he was driving everyone crazy so they allowed him to leave after using poly juice potion.Somehow he was found out and some death eaters snatched him.”

“So what are they asking for the ransom.”Hermione knew they weren’t going to kill the man.He was to valuable to harry.

“That’s the thing.They said to get him back we have to hand over a prophesy.A prophesy that has to do with me.”Harry explained.

“So what’s the big deal.Go get the prophesy and hand it over.It’s yours the ministry will let you have it.”Hermione didn’t understand why she had to be involved with this.

“They made the condition that no one is to know that I took the prophesy.Also they want to trade in the hall of prophesy to make sure that we don’t give them a fake.”Harry told her.

“So what do you need from me?”Hermione knew she wasn’t going to like the answer to the question.

“Well first thing we wanted to know if you could actually make a fake prophesy.”It had been Ginny’s idea and Harry knew the only one who would be able to do it was Hermione.

“What would be the second thing?”Hermione asked.

Harry smiled sheepishly at her.”We need your help to break in and out of the ministry without being detected and making sure we actually all get out of there alive.It’s obviously a trap but it’s also the only way we know to get Sirius back without them maining or killing him.”

“So I need to do all the hard work.”Hermione concluded.She hated the fact that she was going to say yes.She knew if she didn’t go Harry would be captured and there was no way Hermione was leaving him to that fate.Resigning herself to being involved in something she didn’t want to be she spoke.”Fine but I get to pick my team.”

“Thank you Hermione.”Harry knew that the Order wouldn’t be pleased with Hermione being in charge of who went on the mission but with Dumbledore’s backing they would go along with Hermione’s conditions.

Hermione waved away his thanks.”Yeah, yeah I’m the best.”

“Our meeting is 3am tomorrow morning.Come to Sirius’ tonight and we will plan everything before we go.”Harry told her.

“If anyone starts a fight I will defend myself.”Hermione warned.It wasn’t unheard of for the more senior members of the Order to pick fights against Hermione.Most of them felt like she didn’t have the right to be ordering the others around.The more vocal opponents were known to pull their wands out when things got heated.

Harry winced thinking about the many ways this could go sideways.”I will make sure everyone is on their best behavior.”

“Good now get out of my shop.I have work to do.”Hermione made shooing motion with her hand.

“I’ll see you tonight.”Harry didn’t take the dismissal personally.Hermione may be short and ill tempered at times but Harry knew that Hermione cared more than she admitted.He corrected himself Hermione cared enough about him that she wouldn’t let him get hurt.

Hermione sat back in her chair after Harry left.How did she always find herself in these situations?She cursed her soft spot for Harry Potter.They had met on the train on their way to their first day at Hogwarts.Ron had joined them as well and the three were fast friends.Learning of Harry’s background made Hermione feel a kinship with the boy.He had lost his parents due to the actions of a megalomaniac as Hermione had lost her mother and sisters the same way.Although her friends didn’t know that part of her history.

Know as muggle born witch Hermione Granger to the wizarding world Hermione was anything but.She was the daughter of the Evil Queen forced to flee the realm with her two sisters to avoid being cursed with the rest of the land.Hermione was left in the care of one of the queen’s court advisor and close friends Emma.The cover story being that Emma was an orphan whose family let her with a large inheritance who had a child on her own.She met Dan Granger two years after she came to the realm and they married soon after.Dan knew their real origins and although surprised never spoke a word to anyone else about it.

It was when Hermione was 12 that she learned of Hogwarts.Prof.McGonagall had shown up on her doorstep and spoke to her parents and herself about how magic was real.It was only good acting that had made the professor believe that was their first introduction to magic.In reality Emma had know about it her whole life and had brought Hermione up with the knowledge of her true mother and that she was a powerful witch.Hermione had studied the magical text Emma had brought over and began practicing when she was still a toddler.

That didn’t mean the magical community didn’t surprise them.The various magical inventions and potions were new to them and the text that Hermione was able to buy were invaluable.Getting a wand had been difficult as Hermione didn’t need one and she actually believed that the wand maker knew this and settled her with a wand that wouldn’t fight her instead of one that was destine for her.When she had began Hogwarts Hermione learned very quickly it wasn’t smart to show off her magic.She did just enough to prove she was smart so that she could get access to advanced training and books but even holding back she caught the attention of others.

Dumbledore had picked her out right away for her talent and had offer to train her himself.Hermione was always weary of the man so even though she trained with him she never revealed the depth of her magic.In her mind he was untrustworthy and his disregard for other people’s lives and safety made him as dangerous as the Dark Lord.It was only because her mind was natural guarded that he couldn’t use occlumency on her to find out her secrets. That didn’t matter though.She didn’t take orders from him or anyone else leaving many unhappy they couldn’t control her or turn her into a weapon.

Harry was wrong about her not caring about the Dark Lord and his plans for the future.She did however she had more important things to worry about.Like how to reunite with her mother and sisters.It was why after she graduated she took some of the money Emma was given with her new identity and opened her shop.She didn’t actually need to work but wanted a place that she could learn more about magic.Her shop was the perfect place because she bought and sold anything from magical artifacts to muggle technology.It was a magical pawn shop and the cover helped her deal with some of the seeder sides of society as she was known to fence a thing or two that were acquired from dubious means.

She hadn’t found a way to cross realms yet but if she was going to break into the ministry she may as well take some time to look around.She knew that the magical mysteries department kept things they deemed to dangerous for society so maybe she could find something to help her.With thoughts of hopefully finding something useful she cleaned up her work table.If she was going to be accompany Harry she needed to get some rest.
