My Own Worst Enemy 8

“It doesn’t make sense.”Bella mumbled.She was sitting in between Sulpicia’s stretched out legs on the custom couch the queens commissioned for the room.It allowed enough room for Tanya to sit next to the queen with Irina mirroring Bella’s position between her legs, Didyme sitting on the other side of the queen playing with Bella’s fingers.Athenodora and Kate were playing the video game Bella made for Athenodora about her human life as a gift for father’s day.Sulpicia had mentioned how jealous Athenodora was that Kate got a chance to experience her human life so Bella made the game for her.She gave it to the queen on father’s day because Athenodora liked to joke that she was a much better male role model than any other men in Bella’s life.Bella personally thought that Athenodora just wanted a day all to herself but she wasn’t going to fight the queen on it.Bella didn’t care if she wanted to be celebrated on her own day.She loved all the queens and her mothers enough to give them each their own day if they wanted one.

“What doesn’t make sense?”Tanya asked.

“This whole situation doesn’t make sense.”Bella told her.

“What situation are you speaking about?”Sulpicia asked.

“The situation with the Cullens but mostly the situation with Rosalie.”Bella just couldn’t understand how things had turned out like they had.

“The Cullens are dicks who broke the law and Rosalie is a horrible mate who doesn’t deserve you.I think it makes perfect sense.”Kate said.

“The Cullens breaking the law isn’t the confusing part.It’s the part about Rosalie being a horrible mate.”Bella just couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.

“I know it’s hard to accept but sometimes vampires are bad mates.Rosalie’s reasons for what she did are more than enough proof of that.”Irina felt horrible that Bella had been matched with Rosalie but there wasn’t anything they could do.

”It’s her reasons that don’t make sense.”Bella really didn’t think everything was as simple as it was made out to be.

“Well you were around her when you were human so you were a witness to her behavior.Did she lie about how she handled things?”Sulpicia asked.

Bella shook her head.”No and that’s another thing I don’t understand.”

“Why don’t you take a moment to sort through your thoughts and then tell us what your concerns are.”Tanya suggested.

“Ok.”Bella took a minute to figure out what to say.”The main thing I don’t understand was how was Rosalie able to act the way she did when I was human?I know the events that led to Rosalie being turned by Carlisle.Rosalie despises abusers.Especially ones who commit sexual assault.It doesn’t make sense that with her hatred of those type of men that she would let me be in close contact with Edward.Even if we weren’t mated she would have made sure I wasn’t alone with him.”

“That’s true Rosalie has no tolerance of that kind of thing.Remember the time we had to physically stop her from killing that guy she saw slip a pill in Irina’s drink.”Kate said.

“The fact that she didn’t kill Edward is strange as well.She said it happened soon after she was changed and we all know how she dealt with her attackers.Why would she have let Edward off so easily.?”Irina had remembered how angry Rosalie had been in her first years as a newborn.She was quick to violence and wasn’t afraid to raise her voice.

“That’s what I mean.Why would she let her mate be around someone like that?Then there is the fact that she didn’t try to protect me the night of my birthday party.”Bella wasn’t surprised by the growls coming from most of the vampires in the room or the way that Sulpicia tightened her arms around Bella.They all knew what happened that night.

“It was odd that she wasn’t the one to come to your defense.Even if she was staying away from you her instincts would have taken over.”Hearing Bella’s concerns Athenodora was now thinking that Bella was right this situation didn’t make sense.

“Her staying away from me is another thing that’s confusing.Now that I’ve calmed down from the events in the throne room all I can think about is being with Rosalie.I feel like I’m going a little insane because all I can think of is having her near me.My entire focus is on her and it is worse because I can still smell her scent lingering in the castle.”Once Bella had a chance to work through her anger her only thoughts had been on being with Rosalie.

“You know she acted the same way when she smelt you in Alaska.”Kate said.

“Was her behavior different from when she was exposed to Bella’s scent to how she acted to Bella in the throne room?”Didyme asked.

Irina tried to think about everyone’s reaction to Bella’s reveal.She was mostly watching Edward.”You know Edward acted more in line with what a mated vampire reunited with their mate than Rosalie did.”

“It was completely different when she was in Alaska.She was jittery and could barely sit still.More than once we had to send her outside because she was annoying us.”Kate had been so irritated she had threatened to dismantle Rosalie numerous times.

“She was totally different in the throne room than she was at our home.When we were at home she wouldn’t keep her mouth shut and was obsessed with knowing about her mate.”Tanya was now rethinking everything that happened since the Cullens arrived at Alaska.

“In the throne room she was subdued and barely put up a fight to stay with Bella.She didn’t even challenge any of us to get to her mate.A mate she thought was dead this whole time.”That was not normal and was making Didyme think something wasn’t adding up.

“Her not going insane thinking her mate was dead is even more suspicious.How many vampires have you heard of that lasted 30 years after finding out their mate had died?”Athenodora didn’t know any that didn’t go insane or committed suicide.

“I now see why Bella says this situation doesn’t make sense.”Sulpicia said.

“What do you think is going on?”Bella asked.

“I think that Rosalie’s bond is being interfered with.”Athenodora concluded.

“The only one who has any power to do that would be Carlisle.”Tanya knew that a sire bond could affect a mate bond.

“It would make sense for him to do it so that Edward could claim Bella.”Irina wouldn’t be surprised if Carlisle would have killed Rosalie to get her away so Edward could be with Bella.

“If he’s using the sire bond then why didn’t he make Rosalie forget the bond all together?I mean why leave her with the ability to feel any of it?”Bella asked.

“Because Carlisle is an idiot who refuses to learn how to be a vampire.He probably doesn’t know how to use the bond properly.”Kate doubted that Carlisle knew about half his vampire abilities or how to use them.

“True the man is still of the belief that he is living a more humane lifestyle than the rest of us.”Didyme had been around Carlisle when he lived in the castle and the man wasn’t shy about telling anyone who would listen why animal blood would bring them closer to being human again.

“We only drink animal blood so we could settle in one area and didn’t have to worry about how we were going to feed without getting caught.”Tanya and the rest of the Denali didn’t have a problem killing humans they just didn’t want to deal with the hassle of hiding bodies.

“You don’t have to deal with any of that or force yourselves to drink disgusting animal blood anymore.The synthetic blood I created not only tastes the same as human blood but it gives us the same sustenance as human blood as well.”Bella had created the blood due to not liking the way animal blood tasted.She drank bagged human blood but it was hard to get regular supplies.That’s when she decided to make her own.

“You are quite brilliant.”Didyme was always impressed with Bella’s many breakthroughs.In a few decades Bella had helped vampires blend in with humans better than the old kings had in their many thousand years rule.It just showed how little the former rulers cared about their subjects.

“Let’s get back to the Rosalie situation.”Sulpicia wanted to figure out what to do about the problem.”We have no way of breaking the sire bond now that Chelsea is dead.We need to figure out what to do to free Rosalie.”

“I say we kill him.Not only would it free Rosalie but he facilitated a false mate bond and used his sire bond to keep Rosalie away from her mate.Both of those things warrant a death sentence.”Athenodora would happily volunteer to be the one to do it.

“What do you think Bella?”Irina knew what she wanted but it was up to Bella.

“I was originally keeping him alive for Esme but with this new information coming to light he needs to die.”Bella smiled watching Athenodora and Kate high five.

“Yes!!”Kate cheered.

“What do we do about Esme?”Didyme hoped this meant they would be able to kill her.

“She has blindly followed Carlisle willingly so she is just as guilty as he is.Plus she was one of the ones who went out of their way to make me stay with Edward.Anytime I had doubts she would reassure me that it was just because I was human.Now knowing that she knew I wasn’t his mate makes her just as guilty. That means she should die with him.”Bella didn’t feel sad about Esme dying.The way the woman had treated Bella was cruel and she was complicate with keeping Bella away from Rosalie.

“Should we hold another trial?”Sulpicia asked.

“No, we have proof of their guilt.”Athenodora didn’t want to go through another boring trial where Carlisle and Esme would lie to them and waste everyone’s time.She wanted to get to the fun part.The torture and killing.

“I think we should free Rosalie from the dungeon and explain to her what’s going on.”Tanya suggested.

“I would appreciate that because I feel like if I don’t see her soon I will tear down the castle to get to her.”Bella wasn’t sure how she was able to focus on a conversation with the way her mind was urging her to go find Rosalie.

“We don’t want that.”Sulpicia knew that they would have to act fast because Bella was more than capable of tearing down the castle and no one would be able to stop her.

“I’ll go get her.”Didyme wanted a chance to see what kind of condition Edward was in.

“I’ll go with you.”Athenodora just wanted a chance to taunt the Cullens.Maybe she would take the chance to beat on one of them when she was there.As was her right.

“Don’t speak of what we discovered about Rosalie’s bond.We may not have a proper trial for the pair but I want to bring them to the throne room to announce their guilt formally.”Sulpicia wanted to do everything by the book.That was one of the things the queens promised when they took over that they would not be biased and unjust to anyone who was accused of breaking the law.

“We won’t.”Didyme had no plans on telling the prisoners anything.She was thinking along the same line as Athenodora though.Maybe she would take the chance while she was down there to beat on Esme.Giving Sulpicia a gentle kiss followed by kissing Bella’s cheek she stood from her seat and took Athenodora’s offered hand.

“We will bring Rosalie straight here.”Athenodora told them before leading Didyme out of the room.

“How long before we see them again?”Irina asked.

“Knowing both of them as well as I do not for a while because they are not going to miss the opportunity to beat on some of the prisoners.”Sulpicia didn’t expect either of her mates to not take the chance to dole out punishment on the Cullens.

“I didn’t even think of that.”Kate now wished she had gone with them.

Tanya easily picked up on Kate’s thinking.”You will get your chance to hurt them don’t worry.”

“I’m more excited about being able to kill them.”Irina said.

“Let’s wait to do that until Bella get’s a chance to spent time with Rosalie.”Sulpicia suggested.

“Thank you Cia.”Bella hadn’t been interested in being involved with the punishments initially but now learning what was done to her mate she was going to make sure she was the one to strike the killing blow.That was after days if not weeks of torture.She had never felt comfortable around Carlisle but had chalked it up to him being a doctor.Bella was weary of doctors after having to go to hospitals often due to her many injuries through out life.Now she wished she would have trusted her gut and stayed away from him.He was the cause of all this.The first thing Bella was going to do when she saw Rosalie was apologize for the horrible things she said to her in the throne room.Hopefully Rosalie would forgive her but if she didn’t Bella would do all that she could to prove that she would never let Rosalie down again.The first step in doing so being killing Carlisle and freeing Rosalie of his control.Bella thought that was the best courting gift she could give Rosalie.
