“Remember Kate do not speak unless spoken to, no foul language, no joking around and for the love of god think before you open your mouth.If it sounds offensive in your head don’t say it out loud.”Tanya listed off the rules she had been repeating non stop since they had started packing for their trip to Italy.Tanya had assumed they would have time to check into a hotel then would go to the castle once they had a chance to settle in.That had not happened though.As soon as the plane landed 4 royal guard members met them at the gate.They were ushered to a limo with the promise that their luggage would be collected for them.None of the Denali knew why what was going on until they reached the castle and were met by Alec who explained that Queen Didyme requested the sisters’ presence.Eleazar and Carmen were sent to Aro who wanted to talk to them.Them splitting up made Tanya extremely nervous and she once again cursed Carlisle for putting them in a situation that led to them having a private audience with one of the queens.Something that was unheard of.

“I know.”Kate didn’t need to be reminded to behave.She was a thousand year old vampire not a child.

Before Tanya could continue her lecture Alec led them into a sitting room where the queen and Jane were standing watching them enter.Immediately Tanya grabbed Kate by the shoulder and pushed her to the ground taking a knee next to her and Irina doing the same on the other side.”Thank you for seeing us your majesty.”

“You may rise.”Didyme waited until the trio did she then sat on the love seat with Jane sitting next to her.She motioned to the couch.”Come take a seat.”

“Of course your majesty.”Tanya took a seat in the middle so she was flanked on both sides by her sisters.

“Please when we are alone like this you don’t have to call me your majesty Didyme is fine.”Didyme wanted them to be comfortable and they wouldn’t be able to relax if they were constantly reminded that she was a queen.

“Can I call you queenie?”Kate asked.

“Kate.”Tanya hissed.She was about to apologize but stopped when Didyme started laughing.

“I can see why the Assassin likes you so much.”Didyme could easily understand why Bella liked Kate.From what she had been told and now witnessed it seemed the vampire was carefree and didn’t take life so seriously.Bella needed someone like that in her life.

“Are we going to be seeing them soon?”Kate didn’t really care about speaking to the queen.She wanted to see the arcade and beat on the Cullens.

“You will but I thought it appropriate that we speak to you before you do.”Didyme said.

Tanya put her hand on Kate’s knee and squeezed it to keep her quiet.“What is it you wish to speak to us about?”

“I suppose we should just jump right in then.Don’t you think?”Didyme asked Jane.

“I know she is anxious to see Kate so it would be better just skip the small talk and get to the reason they are here.That way she doesn’t think that Kate decided not to visit.”Jane knew Bella was probably pacing the arcade expecting Kate to notify her that she was canceling.

“The Assassin is a woman?”Irina asked.

“Yes she is.”Didyme confirmed.

“That’s so rad.The deadliest vampire that ever existed is a girl!!”Kate would have never guessed that the Assassin was a woman.Finding out made them so much cooler.

“She is also mine and Marcus’ daughter and the Volturi Princess.”Didyme had spoken to the other royals and Jane and they decided that they would tell the Denali Bella’s backstory.It was the only way to make them understand why Bella acted the way she did.

“The Volturi Princess.”Tanya thought she might faint.Not only was Kate going to be interacting with a dangerous vampire but the Volturi Princess at that.That made the Assassin a lot more important than they originally thought.

“Yes and she is my mate.”Jane said.

“I thought the Assassin was Rosalie’s mate?”Irina was sure that Rosalie had claimed that.

“She is both of our mates.Although Rosalie and I don’t have a mate bond we both have one with the Assassin.”Jane explained.

“You are mated to the Assassin.Who is the Volturi Princess?”Tanya pulled at the collar of her shirt suddenly feeling like it was hard to breath.Her coven was going to be killed of that she had no doubt because there was no way Kate was going to behave around the Assassin.The Assassin who was mated to Jane a vampire considered just as dangerous and deadly in her own right.

Jane nodded.”We have been mated for over 50 years now.”

“How did you meet?”Kate asked.

“We met while I was on mission.”Jane told her.

“A mission that actually has to do with the Cullens.”Didyme added.

Tanya thought about what Rosalie had messaged her to get her involved in everything.The fact that Jane said they had been mated 50 years being the first clue.”The mission had to do with the false mate bond Edward was claiming with the human 50 years ago?Doesn’t it?”

“The Assassin was that girl.”Jane said.

“Wait Edward was claiming a false mate bond with the Assassin?”Irina didn’t understand why Edward was still alive if that was true.

Didyme nodded.”Not only was he claiming a false mate bond but Carlisle was using the sire bond to force Rosalie to stay away from Bella.He knew the entire time the Rosalie was Bella’s real mate.”

“Shit.”Kate mumbled earning an elbow in the side from Tanya.

“I’m not saying you’re lying but if that is true why was Carlisle and Edward allowed to live.Those crimes usually earn a death sentence.”Tanya didn’t understand why the royals hadn’t acted so long ago.

“That has to do with the Assassin.Who’s real name is Bella.I recommend you only call her that in private though as she is very adamant that no one finds out who she is.”Didyme knew that Bella wouldn’t be pleased if her identity was well known.

“We will only refer to her as the Assassin unless she tells us otherwise.”Tanya wasn’t even going to let Kate think the name Bella let alone say it out loud for fear of upsetting the woman.

“That brings up another question.Why doesn’t the Assassin talk?”Kate asked.

“The Cullens killed a vampire that was a tracker who focused on Bella.The weren’t concerned with his mate so they just ignored her.When they left Bella behind the vampire’s mate took the opportunity of her being vulnerable and kidnapped her and brutally tortured her.During that time her vocal cords where damaged beyond repair and she lost her ability to speak.”Didyme explained.

“Is that the reason she stays covered up?”Knowing what kind of damage a vampire could do to a human Irina expected Bella’s body to be heavily scarred.

“The horrors inflicted on her left scarring on her entire body.She doesn’t like people seeing it.Especially her face because of how deformed it is.”It had taken Jane years to get to the point when she wouldn’t sob after seeing Bella’s exposed body.Even now it sometimes caught her off guard and tears would form before she could catch herself.

“She refuses to take off her mask around anyone but Jane.Even with our familiar bond she isn’t comfortable enough to do so.”It broke Didyme’s heart that Bella wouldn’t let her guard down around her parents.It made her wish they hadn’t killed the red head just so Didyme could get the chance to do it again.

“If her vocal cords are damaged how does she communicate?”Tanya felt horrible for the Assassin.She had assumed they were just a sadistic vampire who took pleasure in killing for fun but to find out they were actually a traumatized teen age girl made her see her as nothing more than a victim.A victim of Edward and the rest of the Cullen’s lies.Tanya was very happy she had a hand in their downfall.

“After Bella was turned we discovered that when she touches you she can show you her thoughts and feelings.”Jane told them.

“I’ve never heard of something like that.”Irina said.

“None of us had before either.We found out by accident when Bella attacked Jane and touched her with her bare skin.”Didyme had remembered the incident very clearly as it was the first spark of hope they had to communicate with Bella.

“Your mate attacked you?”Tanya didn’t know that was possible.

Jane held back a flinch thinking about it.”Due to Bella’s violent turning she doesn’t like to be touched without permission.It doesn’t matter who you are if you touch her without her approval she will attack you.If you’re lucky she will snap out of it and recognize you quickly, if not then you just have to hope she won’t kill you.”

“She doesn’t do it on purpose.We think because she was turned so soon after she was rescued that her mind clung on to the idea that she was in danger and when the change was complete it amplified it.You have no doubt heard stories of what happens when vampires are turned under stressful conditions.”Didyme said.

“They can never move on from what was happening.In extreme cases of trauma it fractures the vampire’s mind.”Tanya had never met a vampire who had a tragic turning before but everyone was cautioned about what would happen.

“Unfortunately that’s what happened in Bella’s case.We can’t know for sure how long she was held captive but based on when the other person with her when she was captured died we think at least two weeks.Probably more.”Jane told them.

“Bella was kept alive for two weeks?”Irina didn’t think a human could survive that long with a vampire.

“The vampire would inject Bella with venom then once it healed her wounds would suck it out to stop the change.Not only did she do it to keep Bella alive but sometimes she just did it to inflict more pain.”Didyme explained.

“Even with that how did Bella not die?”The more Kate was finding about Bella the more badass she thought the woman was.

“She survived on sheer will alone.”Jane was extremely proud of how Bella pulled through.

“She must be a strong woman if she went through all that and didn’t give up.”Tanya didn’t think she could have done it when she was human.

“Bella is the strongest person I have ever met.”Didyme wasn’t just saying that because Bella was her daughter.Didyme had never encountered another vampire that went through even a tenth of what Bella went through.

“Is there a reason you are telling us all this?”Irina asked.

“Actually two reasons.The first being so you are aware of her limitations and why she acts the way she does.The second so you understand how important this friendship is for Bella.Due to her limitations she has never had a chance to connect with anyone other than the royals or her bond mates.The fact that she invited Kate to spend time with her is a very big deal and I want it to go well.If it doesn’t it will have negative effects on Bella’s mental health.It’s because of that we will give you whatever support you need to maintain a good relationship with my daughter.”Didyme needed this to go well.If it did her hope was that Bella would open up more and be willing to interact with others.

“No pressure.”Kate mumbled.

“I promise that not only Kate but myself and my sister will do all we can to make this a positive experience.”Tanya wasn’t sure how they were going to help make that happen but she would try her hardest.Not only because she was afraid of what would happen if they failed but because Bella deserved to have a friend.The poor girl had been through hell.The least the sisters could do is spend some time doing activities with her.

“That’s all we ask.”Jane was sure this would be good for Bella.The Denali weren’t known to cause trouble and were one of the more respectable covens in the vampire world.They were the perfect group for Bella to have as her first friends.

“Now why doesn’t Jane escort you to the arcade.Bella is very excited for your visit.She and Rosalie have spent the time since they came home cleaning each machine.”Didyme told them.

“The Assassin cleaned all her games for Kate?”Irina asked.

Didyme nodded.”She was worried if anything was dirty Kate wouldn’t want to play with her.”

“That was very nice of her.”Tanya hadn’t expected that the Assassin of all people would care about such things but was finding out there was a lot more to the deadly vampire than she originally thought.

“She is very excited about this and because of that we should get going.I don’t want her to panic.”Jane knew that if they didn’t leave soon Bella would think no one was coming.

Tanya stood from the couch.”Thank you for sharing Bella’s story with us your majesty.”

“Thank you for taking a chance on my Bella.”Didyme replied.

“How big is the arcade?”Kate asked as she followed Jane out of the room with Tanya and Irina behind her.

Tanya rolled her eyes.At least she knew that Kate would have a good time.If the coven leader really thought about it Bella and Kate had some things in common.While Kate didn’t have a violent turning she was heavily abused during her human life.Kate knew what it was like to be tortured and left for dead.If it weren’t for the fact that Kate had been taken into a loving home when she was a teenager she would have been a whole different vampire.Maybe not as mental unstable as Bella but Kate could have been a very angry violent person.Maybe Bella saw some of herself in Kate.Tanya didn’t ever think she would find out the reason but it didn’t matter.What mattered was the sisters were going to be bringing some happiness to a wounded soul.Even if Bella was the most dangerous vampire that ever existed she deserved some kind of positivity in her life.
