My Own Worst Enemy 7

“I can’t believe Bella is alive.”Rosalie said.The Cullens had been escorted to the dungeon by guard members who were not afraid to use force even when it wasn’t needed.All of them were put into cells even Edward. He hadn’t recovered from his injuries and the only sign that he was still alive was the groaning and moans of pain coming from him.Rosalie didn’t feel bad for him.Nor did she really feel bad for the rest of her coven.Each of them had been just as guilty as her and Edward.Rosalie may have been mated to Bella but the others had gone along with the narrative that Bella was Edward’s mate.Some of them like Alice, Esme and Carlisle even encouraging Bella to stay with him when she had her doubts.They all should have said something.Even Rosalie but she truly believed at the time she was doing the right thing.Now knowing what happened after they left she wasn’t so sure anymore.

“I can’t believe she sentenced us to a decade of imprisonment with regular beatings.”Alice hadn’t thought Bella the sweet shy human they had known could be so ruthless.

“I can’t believe she actually locked Rosalie up.”Emmett didn’t think a vampire would be willing to harm their mate.

“I think we are all lucky that’s all she did.”Jasper had expected a lot worse once Bella revealed herself.He thought ten years and a few scars were a very light punishment for what they did.

“How can you say that?!They are going to kill Edward for no reason.”Carlisle couldn’t understand how everything had gotten so out hand.He had brought his family to Italy thinking that the queens were inviting them for a friendly visit and would be introducing them to their blood supplier.In reality they were being tried for crimes they didn’t commit and his son was going to die.

“He broke the law.A law that he was fully aware he was breaking.He got what he deserved.”Jasper told him.

“Edward doesn’t deserve death.”Carlisle said.

“Edward has done more than enough throughout his life to deserve death.It has just finally caught up with him.”Rosalie wasn’t surprised Carlisle was still claiming that Edward was innocent.He loved his son more than his own mate.

“He has followed god’s path his entire life.Leading to many selfless acts and always putting other’s needs before his own.”Carlisle had seen the many instances of Edward going out of his way to help people.His son was the kindest, most caring person he had ever met.

Emmett laughed.”Edward selfless.Don’t you mean selfish?He is the reason we are all here.”

“No Rosalie’s false mate claim is the reason we are all here.”Carlisle tried to correct him.

“Seriously, after everything that happened in the throne room you are still sticking to that lie?”Alice asked.

“It’s not a lie.”Carlisle wasn’t going to be convinced that Rosalie was Bella’s mate.The proof just wasn’t there.

“You are so lucky that Bella was compassionate enough to spare you for Esme.If not she would have killed you along with Edward.”Jasper predicted that Carlisle wasn’t going to make it through his 150 year sentence alive if he kept saying Bella and Edward were mates.

“Spare us?!She has condemned us to a century and half of torture because Rosalie can’t get over her grudge against Edward.”Carlisle thought that proved that Bella was anything but compassionate.

“Why would Bella go along with the narrative if it wasn’t true?”Emmett asked.

“She is probably being controlled by Chelsea.”Carlisle concluded.

Rosalie rolled her eyes at his stupidity.”Chelsea was killed when the kings were overthrown.”

“How do you know for sure?”Carlisle challenged.

“There were many witnesses to her death.Not only that but the guard members she controlled were all freed.Some of them finding out they were being forced into false mate bonds or being kept away from their true mates.”Jasper told him.

“That doesn’t even get into the fact of who would want to force Bella into the bond.”Emmett said.

“The queens and the Denali are probably working together.With their lifestyle they wouldn’t want Bella to be mated to a man.Why I bet that they will force Bella to have a second woman as a mate.”Carlisle wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to force Alice into a false mate bond with Bella to have her in the guard.

“Of course your homophobia would be fueling your thinking.”Rosalie had been on the receiving end of Carlisle’s disapproval of her being a lesbian numerous times.The man never passed up the opportunity to try and get Rosalie to follow what he claimed was god’s path.

“It’s a fact that the gays take every chance they can get to brainwash others to their way of thinking.”Carlisle had seen the way the Denali had flaunted their relationship every chance they got.

“Why are you such close friends with the sisters if they are lesbians?”Rosalie could never figure that out.

“The Denali have shown they have a willingness to change their ways as is proof with them drinking animal blood.I know that if I directly brought up their gay tendencies then they would get defensive.That’s why I have been slowly over the decades leaving hints of why the way they live is wrong.I thought I had been making some progress but their relationship with the queens has seemed to make them backtrack.”Carlisle was saddened that his friends were once again on the wrong path.He had tried so hard to help them.

”You think that you have been making the Denali question their mate bond?!”Jasper laughed at how ridiculous that statement was.

Carlisle nodded.”I feel if I had some more time they would be finally willing to search for their true mates.”

“Have you always been this crazy or did this whole situation put you over the edge?”Emmett asked.

“I’m not crazy.I’m the only one who is seeing everything clearly.”Carlisle was offended Emmett would call him crazy.

“I think it’s the situation.”Alice said ignoring Carlisle’s comment.

“He always gets like this when Edward is involved.”Rosalie and the others had seen many instances of Carlisle losing his mind when he felt Edward was wronged.

“I wonder what he is going to be like after they kill him.”Jasper expected Carlisle to do something extreme like try and kill himself.

“Either catatonic or overly emotional.”Rosalie predicted.

“I’m sure the queens and the Denali will beat either of those states of being out of him.”Emmett had no doubt that the beatings that Carlisle and Esme were going to get would be a lot more brutal than the ones he and his siblings were going to get.

“Besides Edward Carlisle and Esme were the ones they were the angriest with.”Alice agreed.

“Which doesn’t make sense because I was like a mother to Bella.Then the Denali and the queens come along and claim her!!”Esme was just as outraged about that as Carlisle was about Edward.

“That’s what you decide to speak up about?Not when your mate was going off about Edward dying and the grand gay conspiracy going on?”Rosalie wanted to say she was surprised Esme had kept her mouth shut through all of it but Bella had been right when she said the woman wouldn’t have an original thought even if someone paid her for it.

“Carlisle has been alive a lot longer than the rest of us.Due to his age he has a better understanding of the world than we do.”Esme didn’t want Edward to die but she preferred him over her own mate.The pain of Edward dying would fade while the loss of her mate would drive Esme insane.

“Of course he does.”Jasper scoffed at the very idea that Carlisle knew the world better than them.Jasper had more experience in his pinky finger than the coven leader had gained his entire life.

“He’s lucky Bella didn’t hold all his experience against him.”Emmett bet that Bella wouldn’t have been so kind if Carlisle wasn’t mated.

“It was Esme who seemed to push her over the edge.”Alice said.

“Which I don’t understand why.”Esme didn’t get why Bella was holding a grudge against her.”I have always gone out of my way to show Bella how much I love and care for her.I should be praised and welcomed into Bella’s life with open arms not imprisoned.”

“I can see why you are mated to Carlisle.”Rosalie had never seen a pair of mates that made more sense than Carlisle and Esme.Carlisle was overbearing and Esme was a pushover who was more than happy to blindly follow the idiot’s lead on everything.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”Carlisle asked.

“It means that Esme’s more than happy to make her entire identity being your mate.She will do everything and anything you say with no complaints.Including following you to both of your deaths.”Rosalie told him.

“I have my own identity and that’s not only as Carlisle’s mate.It’s being a mother as well.Something that is being held against me because the queens and the sisters are jealous of my close relationship with Bella.”Esme said.

Rosalie rolled her eyes again.”If you had such a close relationship with Bella you would have fought to stay in Forks.”

“What about you?You left your so called mate.Vampires go insane if they are away from their mates for so long.”Carlisle used that as more proof that Rosalie wasn’t mated to Bella.

“Rosalie’s reaction wasn’t that extreme because the bond wasn’t fully in place.Bella being a human prevented that from happening.As soon as they saw each other in the throne room not only did Bella’s feelings change towards Rosalie but Rosalie’s feelings for Bella became more intense.That’s why she only grieved Bella’s death.If Bella were to die now or they were separated then Rosalie would be effected like any other pair of mated vampires.”Jasper explained.

“I do feel more for Bella but I had assumed it was because I found out she was alive after thinking she was dead.”Rosalie had thought the intensity of her feelings were because of seeing Bella after so long.

”While I have no doubt that Marcus could have seen the bond with his gift what I felt from the two of you when Bella was human was not the feelings of a mated pair.It was more of a deep affection and attachment on Rosalie’s side.Bella’s feelings were more of what a crush would feel like.Even when she was angry at you she had a fondness towards you.”Jasper told her.

“So I wasn’t actually feeling the full mate bond?”Rosalie asked.

Jasper shook his head.”No you still felt love towards her but the regular urges of wanting to protect her and be around her weren’t as strong as they are now.”

“Maybe if you tell Bella that she will forgive me faster.”Rosalie bet that Bella would be more understanding of her actions if she knew that Rosalie didn't feel the mate bond as strongly as she did now.

“Even if she believed Jasper, which I don’t think she will I doubt that would make her forgive you any faster.”Alice didn’t think anything would make Bella be more forgiving.

“True Jasper would be one of the last people Bella would trust.”Emmett agreed.

“I need to do something.”Rosalie hadn’t really thought of how she was going to get forgiveness.

“Well you have plenty of time to think because you aren’t getting out of here anytime soon.”Jasper said.

“I hate that you’re right.”Rosalie hated that Bella was so mad at her.She knew it was her fault but she didn’t think Bella was being fair.Yes Rosalie had stood aside while Bella had dated Edward but she did it because she knew they weren’t mates.That being the case they wouldn’t last and during that time there was no way Edward would consider changing Bella.If Bella found out about her mate bond with Rosalie, Rosalie would be forced to make the choice to turn Bella as Bella would no doubt want to have eternity with her mate.The fact that Bella didn’t push to become a vampire when she was dating Edward was proof that Rosalie was right.Then again it wasn’t brought up from what Rosalie knew.She needed to come up with the perfect way to get Bella to forgive her because she knew that she would only get one chance when Bella finally let her out.The problem was she couldn’t think of anything that Bella would accept.Sighing Rosalie leaned against the back of her cell and closed her eyes.The others arguing with Carlisle and Esme was distracting and annoying and she knew it would only get worse once Edward was better.Other than Bella being alive that was the one bright spot of all of this.Edward was going to die and the world would no longer have to deal with him.Maybe she would ask Bella if she could watch them kill him.That would only happen if she came up with a plan.What that plan was she wasn’t sure but she would figure it out.Her chance with Bella was on the line and there was nothing Rosalie wouldn’t do to be with Bella.Even if that meant apologizing for something she did that she didn’t think she was wrong for doing.
