My Own Worst Enemy 5

“Is that supposed to be you?”Emmett asked Kate as he watched her play video games from his seat on the couch in the Denali’s living room.Ever since the Cullens had shown up things had been tense.Rosalie being mated to their vampire friend made them all angry and Emmett wasn’t sure why.The Denali never had a problem with Rosalie before so he didn’t understand why they didn’t want her to be mated to their friend.Then again that wasn’t the only thing the Denali were upset about.For some reason the Cullens very presence seemed to irritate them.

“Yes, the game is based on my human life as a warrior in my tribe.”Kate told him.

“How did you make it?”Emmett asked as he watched what he now knew to be Kate dressed in tribal clothing lead a group of people dressed similarly into battle against an enemy tribe play out on the tv.

“I didn’t.It was a gift from a friend.”It was actually a mother’s day gift Kate received from Bella but she wasn’t going to tell them that.

“The same friend that visits often?”Rosalie asked not able to stop herself.She desperately wanted to know about her mate but the Denali had been extremely tight lipped when it came to them.

“Yes.”Kate confirmed.

“They make video games?”If they did Emmett would like to meet them.

“It’s one of their hobbies.”Although Kate didn’t want to give them any information on Bella it was hard not to brag about her daughter’s achievements.

“Do you think they would make one about my life?”Emmett was already picturing a hunting game with him as the main character.

“No.”Kate was positive that Bella would not be willing to do anything for Emmett.

“Why not?You said it was their hobby.”Alice found the fact that the Denali’s friend didn’t want anything to do with them without them even having met the Cullens odd.

“They aren’t inclined to do anything for people they don’t know or like.”Irina told her.

Carlisle was confused by that statement.”How could they not like us?They don’t even know us.”

“They know enough.”Carmen said.

“What is that supposed to mean?”Edward asked.He wasn’t pleased with the treatment they were getting from the Denali.The fact that he couldn’t read their minds anymore made him sure they were hiding something.What that something was he was going to find out.

“It means that the vampire in question won’t be doing any favors for you anytime soon.”Tanya really wanted to go off on their so called cousins but she couldn’t until the Cullens were in front of the queens.Sulpicia had told her that she sent a summons and the coven leader expected it to show up soon.

“Why are they so against us?”Jasper asked.The Denali’s anger since they had been in Alaska had only gotten worse as the visit continued and he wasn’t sure they should stay any longer.He was afraid if they did it would turn into a fight.

“Yeah I mean Rosalie is their mate.Wouldn’t they at least want to meet her?”Alice asked.

Tanya tried to think of an excuse that wouldn’t give away Bella’s identity.”They don’t want a mate.They enjoy their independence and solitude.They feel a mate comes with complications that they don’t want to deal with.”

“So you have spoken to them?”Rosalie asked.

“I have and they expressed their displeasure at being mated.They also told me that they are not willing to meet you at this time.”Tanya wasn’t telling the truth.Well the whole truth.Bella really was unhappy finding out she was mated to Rosalie.She was lying about them not meeting anytime soon.Rosalie would probably be seeing Bella the next day.

“Can you at least tell me who they are?”Rosalie wasn’t going to let the subject go.Ever since she smelt her mate’s scent her mind had been focused on finding them.It was driving her crazy not being told anything.

Tanya shook her head.”They asked me not to tell you.”

“I think I have the right to know.”Rosalie didn’t understand anything about this situation and it pissed her off.

“When it comes to this you have no rights.”Irina snapped.She was trying hard to control her temper but it was hard with how badly she wanted to throttle Rosalie for all the hurt she caused Bella.

“Actually she does because this is her mate.You are breaking a very important law by keeping them apart.If Rosalie wanted she could go to the queens.”Carlisle may not have wanted to upset the Denali but he wasn’t going to remain silent.Keeping Rosalie away from her mate was cruel and he expected better from the other coven.

”We are breaking the law?!”Kate would have laughed if she wasn’t so mad.

“The Volturi are firm believers in the mate bond.The queens would be very unhappy to know that you are keeping mates apart.”Carlisle said.

“Then why don’t you run along to the queens and report us.”Irina suggested.

Carlisle was taken aback at Irina’s statement.He would have thought they would have been more concerned about the Volturi but it seemed they were confident their friendship would save them.”Maybe I will.”

Before anyone could reply they all heard a knock on the door.Tanya held back a smirk because she knew exactly who their visitor was.Standing up from her seat she made her way to the door and opened it.She was unsurprised to find a vampire dressed in royal guard’s robes standing on her front step.”Hello.”

“Hello.”The guard greeted.”I am here on behalf of the queens to give this envelope to Carlisle of the Cullen coven.”

“I’m Carlisle.”Carlisle said as he made his way to the door.

The guard handed him the envelope.”The queens expect you to be on time.”

“What?”Carlisle asked but the guard just ignored him and left.Taking the envelope he walked back to the living room and opened it.

“Who was that?”Esme asked.

“It was a royal guard delivering an invitation from the queens for us to visit them at the castle tomorrow.”Carlisle told them.

“Why would the queens want us to visit?”Alice couldn’t think of a reason for the queens to want the Cullens to go to Italy.

“I don’t know but we have to go.”Carlisle was just as confused as the others.He couldn’t think of any reason for the queens to want to have an audience with them.

“What do you know about this?”Edward asked Tanya.He suspected that she had said something to the queens.The timing of the summons coinciding with their visit to the Denali made it too much of a coincidence.

“We know nothing.”Tanya denied.

“Are you sure?”Jasper was thinking the same thing as Edward.It was obvious the Denali had contacted the queens.The guard wouldn’t know where to deliver the envelope if they didn’t.

“What could we have to do with the queens wanting to see you.We are just a small coven.We have no influence over the Volturi.”Kate lied.This had everything to do with them and it was taking all of Kate’s self control to not show how excited she was about the situation.

“She’s right.Even though they claim to be friends with the queens they wouldn’t have the ability to have the queens act for them.”Carlisle knew that the Denali didn’t have the kind of power needed to have the queens do their bidding.

“Then what do they want with us?”Rosalie wasn’t sure Carlisle was right.The Denali were obviously upset with them and had a relationship with the queens.The problem was Rosalie didn’t know what the Denali were angry with them about.

“Maybe they want to discuss the new blood replacement.”Alice suggested.

“True they would know out of all vampires that the blood would benefit us the most.They probably are just reaching out to us to get us in contact with their supplier.”Esme was positive that the queens weren’t going to harm them.

“It would make sense that they would want to reward Carlisle for his loyalty to them.”Edward thought Carlisle made a good point.The Denali were a weak coven.They wouldn’t have any kind of influence over the queens.It made him feel foolish that he thought they were involved.

“Well to find out we need to leave soon.”Carlisle said.”Alice you are in charge of travel arrangements.Everyone else be ready to leave at a moments notice.”

“On it.”Alice pulled out her phone and started searching for tickets to Italy.

“Can I give you my number to call me if my mate decides they want to meet me?”Rosalie asked Tanya.She was not happy about leaving Alaska because the Denali were the only link she had to her mate.Even if they were not forth coming with the information about them.

“I’ll take it but I can’t promise anything.”Tanya told her.

“Thank you.”Rosalie felt better knowing that at least her mate had a way to get in touch with her.She just wished she had a way to get in touch with them.It made her wonder why they were so against having a mate.Rosalie had always wanted one.When she had found Bella she had been ecstatic until she realized Bella was human.She hated to think Bella didn’t matter anymore but after catching the scent of her second mate thoughts of Bella were few and far between.All she could think about was that her mate was out there and she needed to find them.Once she did she would make a trip to Bella’s grave and apologize again but this time for getting a chance at happiness instead of the usual one for letting her down.It really wasn’t fair and Rosalie felt guilty that she was getting a second chance when Bella never got a first one but Rosalie had learned that was just the way fate worked.Sometimes bad things happened to good people.Bella unfortunately being one of them.
