Rika Orimoto/Yuta Okkotsu - "Special Grade"
Added 2023-12-14 12:17:19 +0000 UTCIt's been a little crazy here trying to simutaneously manage the Kickstarter campaign (Still going over here! ) , tax filing AND my client work, and last night I needed a moment for myself, so I painted some fanart. Jujutsu Kaisen, which i've previously shared some other work from in the form of Mahoraga, was a real surprise for me - i'm not normally one to get invested in the largest flavour-of-the-month shonen titles, but for whatever reason something about Gege Akutami's work caught my interest and I found myself enormously invested after I got deep enough into it to find a rich vein of Togashi-esque design sensibilities and narrative stylings - Gege is still clearly in the early stages of their career, but reading JJK you can watch them improve in massive leaps and bounds both in terms of draughtsmanship and writing ability. Rika and Yuta here are from the original one-shot "pilot" chapters, JJK Zero, which draws a sharp contrast in terms of complexity and nuance with the more complete full work, but has a kind of raw energy to it that piqued my interest. Gege and I have a common affinity for eyeless figures with rictus grins.
