Deadeus Special Edition Cover + Secret WIPs!

I was commissioned to produce a special edition cover for the physical release of Deadeus, a modern Gameboy game that actually works on a real GB cartridge and everything, which is crazy! My alternative cover art featured on the collector's edition from Incube8 - you can find it here if you're interested!
Above i'm sharing the original RGB version of the piece as well as the edited box art version - I was requested to take a personal approach to the piece and was given free rein to play with the game's themes.
I designed several approaches as seen above in the thumbnails here, but the one we went with evokes both the 11 possible endings with the 11 faced skeletal figure but also the theme of precognition and impending fate, through the self-disembowelment of the figure designed to evoke haruspicy, the art of predicting future events through the reading of entrails.
I also included a WIP from the painting process which I thought was weirdly compelling by itself - something about that solid brown/dull gold against the intense blue worked so well for me I saved a snapshot.
