Sight Unseen 14

“So while we are waiting for the pictures can we come inside?” Rosalie asked Bella as she, Alice and Emmett were waiting on Bella’s lawn for Esme to text pictures of their Bella wall as they had taken to calling it. Rosalie and Alice had walked Bella back to her house but Bella hadn’t said a word the entire time.The only real response they got out of the human was Bella sighing at the sight of Emmett on her front porch.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Bella didn’t want these people in her house where who knew what they would do.

“It’s not like we are going to do anything.” Emmett said.

“Yeah but I like the toothbrush I’m using these days and if I let you guys in I’m sure it will go missing.” Bella told him.

“Why would we take your toothbrush?” Alice asked confused by the very idea.

“Stalkers like to have personal mementos of their victims. A toothbrush would be like the holy grail to you people because it has been in my mouth.” Bella explained.

“We are not stalkers.” Rosalie told her.

“Yeah but it’s not like you would actually admit that you were would you?” Bella asked.

Emmett laughed then held up his hands in defense when Rosalie glared at him. “What?She makes a good point. I mean if we were really stalking her it’s not like we would tell her outright.”

“Well you did admit you have been following me so that is one more thing on the list of proof you are stalkers.I’m now wishing I had put more thought into how my funeral would go.With my luck Charlie will have a backyard BBQ and invite people to drink with my dead corpse that would be set up in a kiddy pool filled with ice to stop the decay.” Bella said.

“We are not going to kill you.” Rosalie told her through gritted teeth. She hated the way this whole interaction with her mate was going. Rosalie had hoped the first time Bella actually spent time with her it would be spent getting to know each other and forming a connection. Instead she had found Bella in the backyard of a person’s house digging up a box and now that they had a second chance Bella was on guard because she thought they were trying to kill her.

“I’ll believe you when I wake up in ten years.”Even if these people were telling the truth that Alice could see the future Bella wasn’t going to let down her guard.

Emmett started laughing again.”I like you Bella. I think life is going to be a lot more fun with you around.”

“That’s just another reason you shouldn’t kill me.” Bella told him.

“We are not going to kill you!!” Rosalie growled.

Bella took a step back from the blond. “You see that aggression right there does not instill a lot of confidence.”

“I’m sorry.” Rosalie was kicking herself for letting her emotions get the better of her. Now she had scared her mate and she wasn’t sure how she could come back from that.

“Here’s the photo.” Alice said happy that they now had proof to show Bella. Alice hoped it would make Bella trust them more and make her stop thinking they were going to kill her.

Bella took the phone from Alice’s hand and froze.The wall didn’t have all the cases she was involved with but it had enough that either Alice was telling the truth or they were very dedicated stalkers.”Holy shit.”

“So you believe us now.” Rosalie asked.

“Maybe. I mean you didn’t get everything.” Bella mumbled as she enlarged the picture looking closer at the details.

“Do you mean you have been involved in more cases?” Emmett asked.

“I mean that I have done a lot more than this wall says. It’s enough that I believe you know about me though.” Bella said. “Now the question is what are you going to do with this information?”

“We aren’t going to do anything.” Alice promised.

“We just wanted to be able to help you. We know that you just got involved with a case that involves a hit man. Emmett called in the body a couple hours ago so they won’t be able to trace it back to you.” Rosalie told her.

“What do you mean you called in the body?” Bella asked.

“The man in the freezer. Alice got the address you were told and I went to Port Angles and stole a burner phone which I used to call in the tip.” Emmett explained.

“Now I know why Ralph hasn’t been bothering me.” Bella hoped that meant he was actually doing some detective work and not just hanging out in women’s locker rooms like she figured he did in his free time.

“Is it Ralph’s body in the freezer?”Rosalie had to hold back from asking the dozens of questions she had about Bella’s gift. It was obvious that Bella was still unsure about them and Rosalie didn’t want to scare her more than she had.

Bella nodded. “Yeah he is a creepy guy that has been bugging me for the last couple of weeks.”

“So that’s who you were talking to in class.” Now the conversation about seeing Rosalie naked made sense to her. It also brought up another topic. “Bella I overheard you say that others had found out about you. Are you in some kind of danger?”

“No, Ralph told me that what I have been doing has gotten around to other spirits. I don’t know how they or how he found out about me himself.Every time I ask him he just says I was recommended by a friend.” Bella explained.

“So you don’t know how your gift works?” Alice didn’t know how to help Bella if she didn’t understand how her gift worked.

“No, I have been able to see ghost since I was little. I tried to bring it up to my mom once but she looked at me like I had grown a second head so I learned early on not to tell people about it.” Bella said.

“When did you start helping them?” Rosalie asked.

“I’ve always helped them.I only got involved with more serious cases about four years ago. I helped find some missing hikers. One of them came to me because his wife was still alive and hurt badly and needed help. It was after that that I was contacted by more people asking me to help solve crimes.” That was also the first time Bella had seen a dead body. It was not the last though.

“Do you know what happens after we die? Does everyone become a ghost?” Emmett was curious about that the most. If Bella talked to dead people then maybe she would have a way to tell them what happened after your life ended.

Bella shrugged. “I don’t know. A few have said things about not being able to pass on because of unfinished business but from what I’ve learned ghost are an exact copy of the person when they were living and some people are really dramatic.I wouldn’t be surprised if half of them lied to me to get me to do their bidding.”

“You seriously think ghosts lie to you?” Alice would have thought that once you were dead you would be more pure of heart.

“I don’t think,I know.I have dealt with enough of them that I have caught them doing it.It’s just hard to know if they are or not without catching them. Just like people some ghost are very good liars.”Bella looked at her watch. “Listen this has been a nice chat and all but I’m hungry and still need to do the rest of my homework before I go to bed. I would also like to shower because I smell like dog from holding the puppy.”

“Oh ok.” Rosalie tried to figure out what she could say to prolong their time with Bella. The only way she could think to do it was to offer to buy her dinner but Rosalie didn’t want to force herself and her siblings to eat human food.”I guess I’ll pick you up in the morning.”

“Sure.” Bella wasn’t looking forward to the ride but she would take it.

“It was nice to officially meet you Bella.Maybe we could eat lunch together tomorrow.” Emmett would just have to make sure Edward wasn’t around. He would mess everything up and they had made progress with Bella.

“We’ll see.”Bella wasn’t going to accept that offer. They may know she talked to the dead but it didn’t mean they were completely trustworthy. In the back of her mind Bella still was convinced they were going to kill her.

“See you tomorrow.” Alice waved goodbye as she dragged a reluctant Rosalie away from her mate.

“Bye.” Bella said as she made her way into the house.

“What do we do about the Denali?” Rosalie asked as soon as they were all in Emmett’s jeep.

“I think we should have Tanya ride with you when you pick Bella up tomorrow.” Alice said.

“What,why would I do that?” Rosalie didn’t want to lose out on alone time with her mate.She definitely didn’t want to introduce Bella to Tanya. Their unknown connection made Rosalie nervous.

“It’s the best way to get them in the same place. Then we can figure out how my vision plays out.”Alice was curious of why Bella and Tanya were hugging and wanted to know as soon as possible. That was the problem with incomplete visions the wait to find out what they were about was excruciating.

“I don’t want them in the same place.”Rosalie told them.

“It’s not like we can actually stop them from meeting.” Emmett said.

“Well we could.” Rosalie had been planning on ways to keep them apart since Alice told them about the vision.

“Rosalie, don’t mess with fate. Just think of how you would feel if someone was keeping you away from your mate?” Alice asked.

Rosalie didn’t bother replying.She knew what it was like being kept away from her mate because Bella was putting distance between them. It hurt and Rosalie wished she had a way to break through Bella’s walls but she didn’t. Not that she could blame Bella she just wished that Bella would loosen up enough that they could have a conversation. If Tanya did have a connection with Bella then it could cause Bella to not want to spend time with Rosalie and Rosalie couldn’t handle that. It was why she wanted to keep Tanya away from Bella. At least until she had some claim on her mate. Then again it wouldn’t be fair to Bella to keep Tanya away for her. Tanya might be someone that would make Bella happy and in the end Rosalie wanted Bella to be happy. She just wished that could be with her.
