When Dawn Breaks 48

“Hey Emmett.” Rosalie greeted her brother as she made her way through the bunker. Bella had asked her to come and see her because she apparently found out some important information that she wanted to tell Rosalie. Rosalie had been in the middle of picking out furniture for their rooms and had left Charlotte in charge of keeping Alice out of trouble while some of the shifters moved the pieces she had picked out. The rooms should be done in the next day or two depending on when the delivery of the new mattress and linens Rosalie had ordered would get there. “How’s your project going?”

“Great. I have got about 25 books done. The oldest one I’ve found so far is from the 1700’s.” Emmett had to stop himself numerous times from just sitting down and reading each book. From the little bits he had read the books contained some cool shifter stories.

“Good I’m sure Bella told you already but we both appreciate your help with this project. We couldn’t think of anyone more trustworthy than you to do it.” Rosalie told him.

Emmett smiled brightly. Rosalie wasn’t one to give out false praise so if she said she thought he was trustworthy then she meant it. “Don’t worry Rosalie I won’t let you down.”

“I know you won’t.”Rosalie patted him on the shoulder. “Now where’s Bella?”

“I’m in here.” Bella called out.

“Keep up the good work Emmett.” Rosalie said as she made her way to one of the spare rooms that had been turned into an office. She knew there was a lot of stuff to go through but until she had actually walked into the room Rosalie hadn’t realized how much there was. “This is a lot more work than I thought.”

“Now you know why I haven’t made that much progress yet.” Bella replied.

Rosalie made her way over to where Bella was sitting and leaned down to give her a kiss. “Hello sweetheart.”

“Hello Rose.” Bella stole one last kiss before leaning back.

“So how much of this have you gone through?” Rosalie asked.

Bella motioned to three boxes and a laptop. “I’ve gone through the computer files and those three boxes.”

“What have you found?” Rosalie knew Bella must have found something if she asked Rosalie to visit.

“Well we already know what they were doing with the shifters.I confirmed that they are trying to make super soldiers.” Bella told her.

“That sounds like something out of one of Emmett’s comic books.” Rosalie said.

“I wish this was just a comic book. The things they are doing is quite disturbing.” Bella wasn’t happy with the lengths the people in charge of this were going to get results. “We didn’t know what the human’s role in all of this was initially.”

“Right we knew that the doctor was human but didn’t find anyone other than him and the vampires.” Rosalie tried not to think of how Bella had killed that horrible man. She wasn’t sad that Bella killed him it was just hard for Rosalie to see her mate as a killer. Not that Rosalie was disgusted by what Bella had done. It was just hard to think that her sweet, gentle Bella could be capable of something so horrible.

“Yes well it seems that the people in charge are vampires. Old vampires. They have been using humans as not only scientist but as the mouth pieces for the various companies they have. A few of these companies are weapons manufactures.” Bella said.

“Having a place where they could legally develop weapons to use against shifters is a very good idea.” Rosalie wasn’t sure what they could do about it though. “If they are running legal companies how are we going to be able to stop them?”

“How do you feel about kidnapping?” Bella asked.

“Kidnapping?!!” Rosalie all but screeched. “What the hell does kidnapping have to do with this?”

Bella was expecting this kind of reaction from Rosalie. “My original plan was to kidnap one of the CEO’s and find out who he actually worked for.”

“Bella we are in no way capable of kidnapping someone.” Rosalie said.

Bella sighed. “It would have been so much easier than my plan B.”

“What is your plan B?” Rosalie asked.

“We do surveillance on the major players.” Bella told her.

“Ok I can get behind that. Also we can use others to help us.” Rosalie knew that they wouldn’t be able to do any type of surveillance by themselves. Their looks alone would make them stand out.

“I thought the same thing. It would also give some of the shifters something to do.” Bella knew that the shifters were getting antsy not being able to be a part of figuring out who was behind their young being kidnapped.

“That is a good point. The ones here have been restless. I was actually going to see if you would go hunting with them later in your tiger form.” Having something to do would be good for the shifters’ moral.

“This also means we are going to need some more spy stuff.” Bella said.

Emmett rushed into the room before Rosalie could reply. “I didn’t mean to overhear you guys but it would have been almost impossible not to.”

“It’s fine Emmett. What can we do for you?” Bella had a hunch she knew what Emmett was going to ask.

“I was wondering if you guys are going to be shopping for more spy stuff if I could come again as one of your bodyguards?” Emmett asked.

Rosalie held back an eye roll. “Yes Emmett you can come with us.”

“YES!” Emmett cheered.

“This will be a lot different than last time. We will be needing more professional equipment to include bugs, smaller cameras, disguises, things like that.” Bella explained.

“We are going to be bugging places?” When Bella nodded Emmett had to hold back a squeal of excitement. This mission was going to be so much cooler than the last one.

“What should we do to get started?” Rosalie asked.

“I may have to make a trip to see an old friend of my grandfather’s.” Bella was sure the man would help her. Her grandfather always spoke highly of him and Bella met him on many occasion when she was younger.

“Who?” Rosalie wasn’t sure she wanted to know.

“He is a retired general who went to college with my grandfather. The man was a navy seal and was at one point considered for the defense secretary cabinet position. He turned it down saying he would only work for a president if their last name was Shurlong.” Bella explained.

“So he is an actual real life spy?” Emmett hoped he would get a chance to meet the guy.

“Yes, he is also the man that my grandfather said to go to if I ever needed help with anything.” Bella said.

“You think he would help us?” Rosalie wasn’t sure if they should get mixed up with someone like the man Bella described.

“My grandfather believed he would.” Bella told her.

“Then you should call him. I think we should get a hold of the alpha’s of the shifters we have encountered so far to include the wolf pack. We can have them send people here that they can spare to help us out.” Rosalie figured they could use this as a base of operations.

“That’s a good idea.” Bella agreed.

“What do you guys want me to do?” Emmett asked.

“For now keep going with the books.Rosalie would you mind contacting the shifters and having someone help you set up travel arrangements?” Bella knew Rosalie could easily delegate work to be done to the right people.

“I can do that.” Rosalie was already making a list of things they would need to do to prepare for the group of shifters. “What are you going to do?”

“First I’m going to get ahold of my assistant and have her look into where we can get better surveillance equipment.Then I am going to continue looking over the stuff in here to make sure we have as much information as we can get before we begin making solid plans.”Bella told her.

“Then I will head out to do that right now.” Rosalie said.

“Actually can you bring a couple of those tactical outfits we got off the vampires to Charlotte and Jasper to look over. Maybe they can work with some of the shifters to see exactly how durable they are. It would be good to know if they don’t work for exactly what we want them to we can maybe modify them in the future. Maybe Alice can work with them as well. It may not be designing a dress but maybe she could use her seamstress skills to help.”Bella figured Alice might be able to figure out a way to adapt the suits to what they would need.

“That’s a good idea.” Rosalie agreed.

“If anyone comes up with suggestions or needs anything that you can’t take care of let me know. Not that I would be much more use then you could be.” Bella said.

“Alright.” Rosalie leaned down to give Bella a kiss. “I will let you know if anything happens.”

“Thank you sweetheart.I’ll be back in time for dinner. Then maybe you and I could have some time to ourselves?” Bella was feeling a little clingy and didn't want to have to share her personal time with anyone but her imprint.

“I would like that very much.” Rosalie would never turn down alone time with her mate.

“I’ll get back to the books.” Emmett wanted to get back to scanning so he could prove to Bella and Rosalie that he was willing to work hard to help them. He didn’t want to miss out on all the cool stuff they would be doing in the next few days. Hopefully Bella would take him to meet her grandfather’s friend.

“Thanks Emmett.” Bella turned to Rosalie. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” Rosalie said as she gave Bella one last kiss and made her way out of the bunker. She was happy they finally had something to do and weren’t just sitting around waiting because Rosalie had no doubt that every second they were not acting that the bad guys were and that meant more shifters were in jeopardy. Initially in her relationship with Bella she figured that she would just support the savior of all supernatural races now though as time passed she realized that she had just as an important role as Bella. It made her feel better about her place in their relationship for them to be on more equal footing. It was obvious that Bella needed help to fulfill her duty because even though she could do it by herself the amount of work it took to help others would have burnt Bella out quickly. Rosalie was just happy she could step in and help her mate be it by making phone calls and travel arrangements or being the one for Bella to turn to when she wanted time to relax. Not that she complained about helping Bella relax. Rosalie got as much out of their alone time as Bella did.
