The World's Last Hope 7

“Carlisle what have you done?!!” Tanya’s thunderous voice rang out through the Cullen’s living room. By the time Carlisle had found the courage to call them the queens were already off the plane and driving to the Cullen’s home. The brief message they got from Carlisle had infuriated the three royals to the point that Kate and Irina had to hold Tanya back from murdering Carlisle as soon as he and the rest of his coven had greeted them.

“Well my queen.I just…” Carlisle stuttered out. He wasn’t sure if he was more scared of his three queens and their guards or if he was of the dragon.

Irina rushed forward, grabbed Carlisle by the throat and smashed his body against a wall. “You just what? Speak up child.”

“I simply mentioned that you had told me to keep her here.” Carlisle tried and failed to pry Irina’s hands from around his throat.

“That’s not all though is it?” Tanya asked. Not receiving a reply she focused on Rosalie. “You and your human were the ones to find the dragon. What was she like?”

“Bella was kind and polite to both myself and Angela. She happily answered any questions we had and was not aggressive at all.” Rosalie told the queens.

“So how did this polite non aggressive were creature turn into an aggressive enemy who feels the need to challenge us for our territory?” Tanya believed Rosalie. The blond never lied even if she could get away with it. She was much more trustworthy than her sire.

Irina threw Carlisle on the ground. “You will answer my sister truthfully or I will hand you over to Kate.”

“Of course your highness.” Carlisle shivered as he made eye contact with Kate.

“Good let’s try this again. How did you manage to turn a peaceful dragon who got along fine with Rosalie, showing she doesn’t hate vampires into a hostile were creature who means to fight us instead of extending an invitation for diplomacy?” Tanya asked.

“When they mentioned they were leaving I asked if I could go with them. It was after telling them I had no ranking in vampire politics that they declined.I told them I was ordered to keep them from leaving. After being laughed at I tried to keep them here by saying this was your territory. That was when Bella decided to question your claim and told us to stay away from them.” Carlisle took a step back when he heard all three queens growl at him.

“You fool.” Kate hissed. “Do you know what you have done?”

“I’m sorry your majesty. I just didn’t know how to keep them here.” Carlisle was now trembling. He didn’t dare look at his family for fear of making one of them a target for the queens’ wrath.

“I want to know everything that happened from the beginning.” Tanya motioned for all of the vampires in the room except for their three guards to take a seat. “Rosalie you and your human found her, how did that come about?”

“We were on a school camping trip when Angela felt the need to walk. Angela sometimes gets urges to do things. We thought she might have had a gift but now that we have learned more it seems Angela is a decedent of the original witch that sealed Bella in her tomb.” Rosalie explained.

“So you are a witch?” Tanya asked the human. They had heard rumors that witches existed and there had been a few texts written about them but like the dragon it was believed to be all myths.

“My grandmother used to tell me stories about our ancestors who were witches and about a prophecy that included a dragon queen. My mother always said my grandmother was crazy so no one believed her.” Angela had wished she had paid more attention to her grandmother growing up. She felt so much time had been wasted.

“What is this prophecy?” Kate wanted to know if it was the same one they had heard of centuries before.

“Bella said that she was released because a great threat that only can be defeated with her help is upon us. The threat is the Romanians.” Rosalie wasn’t surprised by the angry faces of the queens. It was well known how they felt about the Romanians.

“They have been plotting against us?” Irina turned to Tanya. “We need to tell our counterparts about this.”

“I agree but the most important thing right now is to talk to the dragon. After you brought the dragon here what happened?” Tanya needed the full story before they started making plans.

Deciding Carlisle was going to be useless in telling the rest of the story Rosalie spoke. “When we got here the local sheriff and Angela’s grandmother met us outside. It was then revealed that Charlie was one of the queen’s personal guards and a lycan.”

“Children of the moon no longer exist.” Kate said.

“He didn’t prove to us he was one he simply said he was and that most of his kind and other were creatures went into hiding to keep themselves safe.” Rosalie explained.

“Other were creatures?” Irina perked up hearing this. She had studied were creatures extensively and had only met a few.

“Apparently there are all kinds of different were creatures that existed during Bella’s reign.” Rosalie shrugged. “I don’t know what is left or where they are but Bella did mention contacting them now that she is awake.”

“Amazing.” Irina couldn’t wait to meet the dragon. That thought brought a scowl to her face. “Let’s get back to how your sire ruined our relationship with Bella.”

“Even though Charlie and Angela’s grandmother Beatrice knelt and formally addressed the queen Carlisle thought it was a good idea to call her by her first name after it was established that Bella had only given permission for myself, Angela and Beatrice to do so. Even Charlie was not offered and he was her guard.” Rosalie said. “After Charlie slammed Carlisle to the ground and demanded that he respect the queen they decided to leave. Carlisle then told them they couldn’t. He didn’t ask them to stay mind you, he told them you ordered him to keep them from leaving. When they laughed at him he said something to the effect that this was your territory so they had to follow your rules. Bella took that as an insult and then promised to challenge that claim when you met each other. Right after she warned all the vampires in the area except for me to stay away from them they left.”

“Imbecile!!” Tanya growled. Even if they wanted to there was no way any of them could defeat a dragon. “You have really screwed up this time Carlisle. If it wasn’t for Sulpicia’s fondness for you I would tear off your limbs and burn them while you watched.”

Carlisle knelt before the queens. “I’m sorry your majesty. I know I screwed up but if you give me a chance I can fix this.”

“You are not to go near that dragon. The last thing we need is for you to piss her off more.” Kate was a fighter but there was no way she wanted to take on a dragon.

“What do you think we should do?” Irina asked Tanya.

“I think we need to contact the dragon.” Tanya thought about how to deliver word to Bella safely. “Would you and your mate bring a letter to Bella for us?”

“She mentioned that she didn’t want you to use us to spy but I think giving her a letter wouldn’t count as that.” Rosalie wouldn’t mind going to see the dragon again. She wanted to ask her about mind magic.

“Good then we will draft something for you to deliver. Hopefully we can fix the mistakes your idiot coven leader made.” Tanya really did hope so because if the legends they heard about the dragon queen were true then there was no way they wanted to be seen as the enemy by such a powerful creature. “Until then we are going to be using your study.”

“Of course my queen any room in the house is at your disposal.” Carlisle felt a little bit better now that it seemed he wasn’t going to be killed but he was still going to be beyond careful with what he said and how he acted around the royals.

Tanya ignored the man and left the room followed by her sisters. As they made it to Carlisle’s study and shut the door behind them she slouched down in Carlisle’s office chair and blew out a breath. “He really got us into some deep shit this time.”

“I wish he would just do something horrible so we could justify killing him.” Irina said as she took a seat in one of the chairs on the opposite side of the desk. The room was soundproofed so the sisters didn’t have to worry about being over heard.

“I agree.” Kate said taking the chair next to Irina.

“So what are we going to do about Bella?” Tanya asked.

“Can I just mention how amazing it is that she even exists.” Irina couldn’t contain her excitement any longer. “I mean after reading so many old text that mention her the fact that she is real is mind blowing.”

“Yeah we know, were creatures are cool and you have a crush on the dragon queen.” Kate teased.

“I don’t have a crush on her.” Irina denied.

“It doesn’t matter, what matters is how we get her to talk to us because I don’t know about you two but I don’t want to fight a dragon.” Tanya didn’t think an army of vampires could take on the dragon.

“I think the only thing we can do is apologize for Carlisle’s incompetence.” Irina didn’t like the idea of having to apologize to anyone but if it got the dragon not to kill them she would.

Kate smiled.“Maybe we can offer Carlisle as a peace offering.”

“Do dragons eat vampires?” Tanya asked liking Kate’s idea.

“I don’t know. They did battle vampires but in the books I read it never really mentioned their diets.” Irina wished she had gone to Italy and gotten more books on the subject so she could have been better prepared.

“Too bad.” Watching Carlisle be eaten would have been highly enjoyable for Kate to watch.

“Even if we don’t offer her Carlisle we should offer her something.” Tanya was trying to think what they had that a dragon would want.

“What do you give a dragon as a token of peace.” Kate asked.

“I don’t know. We could always write the letter and ask what we can do to get forgiveness. Then that way we would know exactly what she would want. It would also be a way that we don’t accidentally insult her with our random offerings.” Irina said.

“That’s a good idea. Now let’s get this letter written. One of you go get stationary and your seal to make this official.” Tanya pulled out some blank paper and a pen from one of the desk drawers. She wanted to make a rough draft before they wrote the actual letter. The pressure she felt on her shoulders was starting to be oppressive. As the high queen of the region it was her not her sisters who bore the brunt of any failures. If she failed to get the dragon to extend a formal invitation for talks then it would be disastrous. Tanya and all the other queens had known of this prophecy for centuries and the fact it was coming true made befriending the dragon even more important. It was a matter of life and death and Tanya wasn’t going to screw up their only chance of living.

Carlisle is old enough to have come from a time when Monarchs weren't just Political figurheads, they were actually the leaders of the state. Thus he should definitely know that when dealing with what essentially amounts to a foreign Monarch, you don't go around rudely making demands/veiled threats to them, even if it's just because you're poorly/incompetently attempting to follow the orders of your own Monarch and especially so if you yourself hold no power iin your government.... Bloody fool.
