When Dawn Breaks 42

“So where are we going Bella?” Emmett asked excitedly. When they got off the plane there was a was a large security truck that was bigger than the swat van he got to drive when they were in Maine. After they loaded all the stuff from the plane into the truck Bella had been nice enough to let Emmett drive. When he asked before where they were going Bella had said it wasn’t safe to say anything until they made it to the estate. Emmett had figured it was because she didn’t want anyone to overhear them and they where just going to be putting the stuff in the White House. Now they were driving away from the estate all together.

‘I’ll let you know when we get there. Turn right up ahead.” Bella was being extra vigilant making sure no one was following them. She had Emmett take a convoluted path just to be on the safe side. She had hoped that because they had moved so quickly and taken a private jet to get to Arizona that no one would be able to track exactly where they went and if they did they wouldn’t have had time to intercept them.

“This is fun it’s like we are spies on a secret mission having to smuggle precious cargo.” Although the whole situation was tragic as the shifter were getting kidnapped and hurt, Emmett was having a lot of fun. Bella had made life exciting ever since she moved to Forks. This though was on a whole other level. Emmett never thought he would ever go on rescue missions or fight vampires in complete tactical gear outside of video games. Now he was driving to a secret location. It was beyond exciting.

Bella chuckled. “You’re right. It is kind of true though. We infiltrated a secret enemy compound, rescued hostages and now we are driving all the evidence to my secret base.”

“We are going to a secret base?” Now Emmett was even more excited.

“Turn left here and drive slow. The road is safe but it’s a little bumpy.” Bella ignored Emmett’s question. This would be the most difficult part of the trip. The road was made to look like it was taking you off the beaten track. Her family had grown trees for a few acres outside of the security walls so it seemed like you were just driving into the forest.

Emmett slowed down his speed as they hit a pothole. “Geeze how often is this road used? I would think you would keep it nicer than this.”

“It will all make sense in a couple more miles.” Bella told him. They both fell silent with Bella scanning the area and Emmett concentrating on driving. It was when they came to a large solid wall that was in front of a group of rocks that Bella had Emmett stop. “Wait here.”

“Ok.” Emmett wasn’t exactly sure why they were stopped where they were as it didn’t seem like there was any way to get into the estate with the security wall in front of him. Even then the large boulders stacked around it would prevent anything from getting through. His eyes went wide when he watched Bella move part of one of the rocks out of the way and push some buttons on what looked like a keypad. The rock shifted and unveiled a hand scanner that Bella used. His eyes widened further as another panel moved and Bella scanned her eye. When she said they were going to a secret base Emmett hadn’t really thought she was being truthful. It was as the wall and rocks swung open as if a large gate that he realized she wasn’t kidding.

Bella jogged back up to the truck and got in. “Pull through the gate and park on the other side.”

“What is this place?” Emmett pulled the truck through the gate into what looked like a secure compound. What surprised him the most was that all the rocks looked natural. He didn’t know how it was so well hidden. If he had been walking through the forest even with his vampire senses he would never have found the place.

“This is part of the secure wing.” Bella thought for a second. “Although Rosalie likes to call it a bunker.”

“You have a bunker?!!” Emmett asked.

“These are the outbuildings that house the generators and water purifiers. Stuff like that so they aren’t in the living quarters. They are made like the actual bunker so they can withstand almost any attack including a nuclear blast.” Bella explained.

“Holy shit!!!!!!!!” Emmett couldn’t believe what Bella was telling him. “You have a compound within your compound?”

“I guess you could call it a compound.” Bella walked Emmett over to a large bay door. “Here is were we keep the emergency vehicles. They are all electric so they don’t need any fuel they just have to be plugged in to recharge.”

“Jesus. Can I see the living quarters?” Emmett wanted to see what it was like inside.

“That’s actually where we are bringing all the computers and paperwork we brought back with us. I want to put the weapons in the armory. That’s even more secure than the rest of this place.” Bella moved over to a door and repeated the process of opening it. The difference of this one was that both hands had to be scanned and a facial recognition had to be passed before the final door opened.

Emmett was awed by the many metal doors they had to go through just to get to the armory. He wasn’t sure what they were made of but even a vampire couldn’t get through them he was sure. Maybe Bella could but he wouldn’t bet on it. Stepping into the armory he had thought it would just be a few guns and some tactical gear. He had been wrong. It looked like they had enough weapons and armor for a small army. “Why do you have so much stuff?”

“If something would actually happen we would be one of the first places people would come. The amount of valuables alone would be enticing but more than likely people would think this would be a secure location that had more supplies than anywhere else. Of course they would be right which is why we have prepared to take on a mob if it comes to it.” Bella explained.

“That makes sense.” Emmett walked through the rows of weapons marveling at some of them being there. He was sure a few of them were illegal for a civilian to own. It would make sense that Bella would have them though as not only was she rich but her family was well connected politically. He wondered what kinds of things Bella would able to get away with if she really wanted to. He was happy to know his best friend was a good person who wouldn’t abuse the power she so obviously had.

“Ok lets get this unloaded so we can get back to the house.” Bella wanted to hurry up so she could check on the shifters. She wanted to get an overview on what they would need to get back to health. Once that was done she wanted to spend time with Rosalie. She had promised her imprint a night to themselves and she was going to deliver.

“On it.” Emmett went to the back of the truck and opened it. This was all so amazing and he felt sad he couldn’t even tell anyone about it. Bella had trusted only him to come out with her and secure all this stuff. He had felt honored she chose him and wasn’t going to break his promise. Emmett had liked the fact that Bella had started using him more than anyone else. He was the one people only used when they needed his muscles. He was often over looked by people because his other family members had their gifts or knowledge. Bella didn’t though. She saw Emmett as something more than just a brute who wasn’t as smart as everyone else. She saw he had worth and it made Emmett care even more for his best friend. He wasn’t her second in command as that role went to Rosalie but Emmett thought of himself more as her special forces. He went on the dangerous missions and was entrusted with secure information. As he was unloading the boxes he thought about how thankful he was for that day in the woods that Bella took his leg. It may have hurt but it was the first moment of the beginning of their friendship.
