Poll: Timelost Dwemer
Added 2025-06-13 15:00:12 +0000 UTCI've been putting a lot of thought into this one and I'm honestly still pretty torn. Some backstory:
I originally made Tempus for one reason: to play a bunch of mods I hadn't previously played. I took a long hiatus from Skyrim to work on Fallout 4 stuff, and in that time period, I missed out on a ton of quest mods and follower mods and so on. One of the ones that caught my eye early on was the Timelost Dwemer, or Deep Elf. Time magic sounded cool, building automatons sounded cool, new race sounded cool. And it is, it's a fun race to play as.
I feel I've mostly "caught up" as it were, and I've been thinking about the Deep Elf a lot. So...let's go through it.
Pros:
- Chronomancy is neato.
- Building mech followers is neato.
- Remiel's unique interactions with the Deep Elf are neato.
Cons:
- The Chronomancy powers can be...finicky.
- Despite their presence in the lore, the Dwemer are largely ignored in-game (as nobody is programmed to know you're a Dwemer and have no dialogue to acknowledge it, for obvious reasons).
- The integration with other mods is a LOT of work. One easy example is anything involving race-specific perks or powers or dialogues, such as the new Standing Stones we'll be using (which is Freyr, for the curious). In a majority of cases, the Deep Elf simply copies the Dark Elf powers, making them a lot less unique. Yes, we could make add-ons for Deep Elf specific things, but it's a daunting amount of work, and frankly, my scripting skills are less than stellar.
- The Timelost Dwemer mod itself is partially unfinished, and lacks some polish. Some of the automatons can't be summoned (due to things like not having valid mesh data), and the documentation for newcomers can be quite overwhelming. It's a large pdf, and I don't really expect anyone is really reading it.
I know the cons seem longer than the pros, but that's because I'm a real negative nancy, so I tend to focus on negatives far more than positives.
To that end, what do you think? Should we keep the Timelost Dwemer? (and before anyone comments about it: no, we won't add in the Deep Elf alt start. we used it previously and it's buggy.) Gonna let this run through the weekend so full voting and discussions can happen.

I really wonder how many people are just voting to get rid of stuff for the sake of voting to get rid of it and not actually for any reason other than to just get rid of things

2025-06-18 18:30:28 +0000 UTCI never really played them, altho that was mainly because they get SO MUCH stuff compared to all the other races that it feels "lesser" picking anything else. Especially as a warrior type start. Abilities that make anything in Imperious look like weaksauce, the bot busywork and learning some dont even work, the sheer patching etc... Best to see them go honestly, especially for less patching headaches. Freyr and Mannaz are going to be a pain for any custom race alone.
