The Story behind the Picture

The country France is often named in one breath with “du pain, du vin, et du forage”. Bread, wine, and cheese. And that doesn’t even start pointing out the wonders of this country (although wine is a pretty important aspect for us). But even food and drinks aside, there are so many great things to discover. From picturesque historical villages, to wonderful landscapes. For the latter, timing is often very important. Those of you who traveled in the Provence region in July will probably remember the endless purple views of the lavender fields. Which is something that those who prefer to visit in September may have never experienced.

We’ve been rather unlucky when it comes to the yellow sunflower fields. Especially in the south-west of the country, growing sunflowers is quite a big industry and if you come at the right time, you can drive for kilometres without seeing anything else than a long stretch of bright yellow. However, when we are there, most of the time we’re looking at nothing but endless brown. Sunflower fields tend to be one of the most beautiful things in the world when blooming, but afterwards, they turn into brown and black and the heads of the flowers just hang down. Which rather makes it a scene of an apocalyptic sci-fi movie.

This year wasn’t any different, it was late September and most sunflower fields had lost their colour. Only when we turned off in a small road to get to campsite Deveze, suddenly we were surrounded by bright yellow. Apparently, the strong rains in spring had forced the farmers to plant their flowers later than normally. Which came at quite a risk for them, but we couldn’t be happier. Especially because this was right next to a naturist campsite. So we took off our clothes and let the drone in the air, because for years we had been wanted to make some “running naked through sunflower fields” shots. And while we were at it, a “sunflower covering breasts” shot also seemed quite obligatory.

😂😂😂 We always knew that autocorrect would make a fool of us one day... Apparently, it's more like every day

Oh, of course, you were 'foraging' for sunflowers!
