One thing that has always annoyed us, is that nude beaches are rarely the most beautiful beaches. Well, sometimes they are. For example in Benidorm (Spain), one could say that the huge white sand urban beach is much more beautiful than the rocky cove further down the road where the naturists tend to reside. But once the city runs full in the summer and that main beach is packed with red and white bodies so that you can almost not see the sand anymore… It’s hard to still call it beautiful and it’s not a coincidence that textiles start conquering space in the naturist areas.
But the exceptions aside, we think that it’s fair to say that the naturists hardly ever get the best beaches. A great example are the Greek islands. There are a handful of true naturist beaches, where you can be naked everywhere on the beach, but in most cases, there’s just a “naturist section”. This is typically at the very far end, as far as possible from the parking lot. It’s often hidden behind a big rock, and you have to climb or wade through the sea to get there. And it rarely is as nice as the main beach, it has more stones in the sand, or higher waves that make swimming uncomfortable, or lots of seaweed. In other words, it’s the part of the beach where textiles don’t really want to be.
On the Canary Islands, and especially on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, things are quite different. Firstly, because the dedicated nude beaches are absolutely stunning. But also here, they are quite few in numbers. But more specifically because the non-official naturist beaches are very nude-friendly. Except for the few beaches that lay right in the center of a town, you can go naked on every beach. EVERY beach. How cool is that?
The picture of this week, for example, was taken at Cofete beach in the very south of Fuerteventura. It’s one of the most spectacular beaches we’ve ever seen. About 8 kilometers of white sand with a sea coloured in probably every possible shade of blue. We camped on this beach for three days and only wore clothes after sunset when it started to get a bit chilly. Most of the time, we were the only naked people on the beach. Nobody bothered. An advantage of a beach this size, is that if someone would not appreciate our nudity, there’s plenty of other space left where they don’t see us. Or vice versa, if we would get disturbed by a sudden large number of textiles, we could walk a bit further away. But we would not have to climb a rock, wade through the sea, or fight with seaweed once we get there.
