What We Learned about Van Life on the Canary Islands - First Time Van Life EP 6

Our little van life experiment is already coming to an end. It was way too short, that much is sure, but we've learned so much. Throughout this video, we'll tell you about our experiences and about the pros and cons of van life. And along the way, we'll take you to some of the most beautiful places in Lanzarote.

Wow! Boat life! That's on our dream list as well :-) We follow a couple of boat life YouTube channels and it does seem quite a lot more complicated than van life. We are currently in a stage that we're spending a lot of time researching "the best van" on the internet. It's very tempting to just buy the first van we can afford just because we loved it so much. But we know that we need to be careful to not make too crazy decisions. We're very aware that the little experience we had happened in perfect circumstances: Excellent weather and the most idyllic places to camp. And most people we met told us that we need to check out more vans to learn what's possible and what not. But they also tell us that the "perfect van" doesn't exist and if it exists, it will never be the first one we buy :-D

Really enjoyed the van life excursion. We can relate as we have a sailboat that we live on part of the year. Limited storage is a for sure. When you own your own boat or van….it’s the same….you come up with creative ways to store your belongs. If you rent then you are forced to take what you get. You are forced to downsize your stuff which is good. As a naturist you have less clothes anyway… The real beauty of boat or van life is, as you stated, you get off the beaten path and away from people. It’s ok once in a while but once you get used to the freedom it’s hard to go back. We will transition from boat to van life in the next year or two so we are starting to look for the perfect vehicle. It’s a trade off between being too small which I think yours might have been and being too big, which has limitations as to where you might be able to go. I think maybe a 4 x 4 class B might be the perfect size. Extended body but still a van. Make your wish list……sleeping arrangements easy, what kind of toilet is critical, the galley……more than one burner, fridge/freezer?, batteries, solar for the roof so you can get off the grid and really away from everyone as you experienced. Whatever you really would like to see in a perfect world. Then go shopping to see how many things you can click off the list. Everything is a compromise and you may not find the perfect van right away. Perhaps look at it as a work in progress. Loved your adventure and looking forward to the next…
