John Walker is a both a complex character and a very simplistic mirror that is being held up to Steve at the same time. In many ways but not all, Walker is the epitome of everything that Steve never was. Yeah he'll likely have imposter syndrome. He might be burdened by the reality that he's been decorated for actions that perhaps he feels make him unworthy to carry Steve's shield. While these things do make him complicated and complex. He's also basically been chosen for the opposite reasons Steve was. Dr Erskine would have never chosen someone like John.

2021-10-24 15:16:38 +0000 UTCI don't think you really missed anything regarding John Walker -- I think he's just meant to be a bit of an arse (coupled with a bad mix of Imposter Syndrome and narcissism), which is then amplified by the serum unfortunately. (Which makes me feel a bit bad for the actor actually, because the character is so easy to hate and I think some of that unfortunately bled over into the actor for some people, IIRC -- at least that's what I remember going down on Twitter and such back when the episodes were first airing). And yeah, that ending had me SO SHOOK, especially as the guy killed was the one who idolized Cap growing up (which made that earlier scene in the graveyard when he was talking about that so much more sad in retrospect when rewatching it). 😮 Ugh, John Walker -- Cap would NOT be pleased with his shield being so horrifically misued. 😡
