This week I spent time finishing up putting together a usable version of the weapon system, and even worked on some of the spell interactions.
Now that its in game, part of my plan is to have the player absorb abilities from different monsters. These abilities cost little magic to use, but have limited charges.
Furthermore, some of them can combo with other abilities to change effects.
In the example above, a magic spell is used to draw fire and create the fire sword. The player has the rock throw ability(this would come from the small goblins normally), and if they use the rock throw right after the fire sword, it will throw a more dangerous fireball instead of a rock.
Not every spell and ability are going to combo like this, but I'll try to put together some interesting ones!
I have some plans to limit the number of abilities you can have, making it a balance between draining enemies, and losing the better abilities, but first I want to get everything feeling good.
Also that rock throw needs a better animation!
