June 24th Weekly Update

This week I did take some time to finish out a couple effects for some spells, and tweak a few bugs, but I really focused on level generation.


Specifically I worked on putting together a procedural level generation system.  While I don't plan on every level including this everywhere, it does give me a chance to add a little variety to the game.  

The system is not completely procedural, how it works is it strings together prebuilt level sections randomly.  After building a path from the starting section to an ending section, it will go back and build out alternate dead end paths.  

To test it, I build just a few SUPER SIMPLE landscape areas, and put some enemies in them.  The areas don't connect together very well, and I don't have anything to hide the seems at the moment, but it does make it feel kinda like a level.


My Plan is to build a bunch of bigger, more complex areas, and then connect a few of them together at a time.


I also cobbled together a spell menu, just to make it a bit easier to select magic.  I don't know if its as fast, but it a fair start.  When I play around, its starting to feel more like a game at this point.

I still need to make some good, distinct icons for each of the spells.



I've already changed the design on the menu background.  This one is a little too busy.


I'm starting to be pleased, and things are really coming along.  Now its time to start filling the game up with content!

Looks nice, really good work!!! Only the seduce spell doesn't really lead to success... it takes too long until it works (never got it to seduce with spell... enemies are always faster, or too near), but I like the idea with the seductive pose! May there could be several seduce spells with different "methods" in future versions... Hope to see further enemies like the tentacles in future versions.

I'm giving my respect to you! You still improve your game and don't abandon it. Good job! Hope you'll make a lot of content.

Amazing.

I make my own character models, and I paint them in zbrush and substance painter. The shaders in Unreal engine are just the textures exported from substance painter.

I create them in seperate software, then import them into Unreal engine as FBX files
