MARCH 27th Update NSFW

While initially my plan for this week was to get a lot of animation done on the new monster so I could have him in game by the months end, something kinda cool came up.

He is a 3d modeler, and a very experienced rigger.  I had a chance to talk to him and he gave me some advice and pointers on improving my rig.  He also pointed me in directions to find more information on improving my rigs further.



Some of these changes won't effect the actual in game skeleton, and are just to have better control, but some of them will require adding bones, and moving bones around.    As this will require animations being redone, I've decided to do this now instead of down the line when I have a lot more animation completed.



That being said, I don't plan to make a lot of new animations for Meridiana until the changes are done, but I will put together at least a temporary sex animation with the new monster this week.



So some of the stuff I've been experimenting with:


Aiming the dick.  I have the penis on my new monster set up so that it will aim at circle.  This circle can then be parent constrained to a target, and now I don't have to manually animate the dick moving in and out of orifices.




Making flesh softer and more jiggly, I'm still working on this, but it's already really promising.



And better deformation of the model.  I think I was doing okay before, but a few tweaks have made things look a little bit better in some spots.  Especially the arms.



I did manage to get some animation done for the new monster dude.  I'm not completely happy with his walk or run, as I haven't found his personality in it yet, but I do have something in place, and he should at least be walking around in the next demo release.



I know this isn't a lot of gameplay stuff, but I do think this will be pretty cool when everythings said and done, and worth the effort.

Yeah, there is actually a key to toggle her clothes already in the demo! (its the N key)

Any chance you could include an option to keep Meri nude instead of clothed in following demos? Just talking about the clothing that disappears during sex animations, not that you make a model without the thigh highs and bracers. Love what you did with the clothing but I'm a personal fan of none, especially with how well you've made her model.

Oh...forgot one more thing. Is there a story behind the image of Meri hanging by her wrists? Looks like she might have got herself into a bit of a compromising situation.

Looks like you found some really useful tips. The improved rigging and realistic motion controls may give you some extra work now, but I really think it will pay off in the long run.

Good to hear due time is being put into nice animations, since they're what give life to these characters. Also nice to hear even relatively subtle details like jiggle and sway are being given thought. Regarding the personality of the new monster, just from eyeballing his idle animation, something about his twitchy ears and tongue licking make me think of lizards, specifically those basilisk lizards that run accross the water. So maybe a hip-swinging run (like a basilisk lizard), or something agile on his toes? To me, he looks like he has a dancer's body, so in my mind he would run with a fairly light step. Maybe fish men are good ballet dancers? :P (Perhaps check out Street Fighter III's Elena on zweifuss.ca) If you've got 20 minutes, I'd highly recommend checking out Mariel Cartwright's "Making Fluid and Powerful Animations For Skullgirls" talk on animating for games. There's a lot of broadly applicable insights about how to make even simple, quick animations have personality and impact. Nice work on the armpits! Even most AAA games don't have particularly clean rigging in the underarm region.

Would still love to see how you setup your rigs and an animation, especially the jiggle ;-)

That's something I'll think about. To be honest I kinda have her how I want her to look, and I don't know how much customization I really want there to be. I'll look into it though, and if its not to shader expensive, I'll see if its something I can't add down the line.

Heeeey, not sure if that's too much to ask, but since I made 3d games myself I know that it should be possible to load the skins from an external image file. Could you put the skin for the lady as an external image file, so I could edit it myself. I personal am not a fan of spots on skin in digital art. I don't mind them in real life, thought in art they always bother me. They seem so unnecessary to me so I would remove them myself if the skin would be external. I could also add tanned skins my self or different haircolors :o Just my five cent

I may go back and update it. At some point I will have to update the goblin sex animations, and when I do that I might update the penis to make it easier to complete those animations.

Are you going to be applying any of this new knowledge to the goblins (such as the aiming penis) or are they all said and done?
