March 13th Update

This week I put a lot of work into the new enemy, finally added a jump(more of a hop), and started to build in aiming.   I also added a start screen with a resolution setting. 


As you can see in the above picture there is now a main menu in place.  Right now the buttons are stand in textures made by Ben Ormstead of UnrealTutorials.com.  Its something I want to change out in the immediate future, but at this point it helps to provide a little feedback for button presses.



I've been making progress with the new enemy, and all I need to do at this point is get him clothed/ armored, and armed, and then I can get him game ready.  While he is an enemy, and a cannibalistic monster, I do think I was able to make him into a monster Meridiana wouldn't mind charming.  Once I've got him in game with some shimmering scales, I think he'll look lovely!



I've also built an aiming system to bring the camera in close for more careful aiming on some spells.  If you are a 10+ patron, I'd really appreciate it if you'd take a minute to give me your thoughts on the last 10 only question I asked, as it relates to aiming!



Finally, although there are no pictures for it, I did give Meridiana the ability to hop off a ledge when she runs into it.  This small jump is basically what Link does in a Zelda game.  I do not plan on her having any jump button, but she will have ways to interact with the environment in the future, outside of her teleport!


That was mostly it for this week, I also did a lot of tests and tweaks of lighting, and post process effects, and I'll show that off more when I've got something I like!

You're not the only one. It became more apparent with new shader and it was bugging the hell out of me ;).

The start screen already has some really basic animation, in the future I will add mode. I don't want to try to explain too much but she is paid to investigate magical happenings. I'm starting with a forest/swampy area, and we'll go from there

you mean the new monster? I thought he was more of a merfolk, actually reminds me of abe sapien (Hellboy) or the drell from Mass effect.

Nice update once again. i like the home screen, perhaps an ability in the late future to have it animated? Btw is there a possibility to know more about the background info ? Why is she fighting the beasts / why is she hunted, will she have friends as well ? Will this play more on land or will there be water / cave areas ?

Well its not a big bother for me personally, but it does stand out. Turning that bridge a tad down would probably improve the look overall though ( and perhaps the toning the shiny / glossy look).

One thing that I have noticed that I'm curious to hear what other people think about... is: Something about Meri's face has always seemed a little off, and I think I finally figured it out....it looks like she got a sunburn. There is a bridge of redness that goes across her nose from cheek to cheek. It's not a big deal but I think she might look better if she just had some subtle rosey cheeks and the area around the bridge of her nose matched the rest of her skin tone better. Maybe I'm way off, but just thought I would point that out.

I like the look of the troll, although I feel his lore and style lend itself to something a little more hunched and bestial when it moves rather than upright and humanoid. That's just my thought on the matter though. And just from looking at it I think the over the shoulder camera is the right way to go. Especially if you'll be able to switch like in MGSV!
