March 6th Update

There were several different things that I worked on this week. I started by getting the death animation in game. I've given a limited ability to command enemies you've charmed, and build a new shader for more options on appearance!

I previously set up everything so that Meridiana can die, but this week I finally implemented the death animation for her.

I wanted to make charming enemies more useful then just sex, so now you have limited command over them. Currently, you can command them to attack their friends, but I plan in the future to be able to use them to trigger switches, unlock locked doors, etc.

However, this command is limited, eventually, enemies will want a "reward" for their hard work, and when they come to collect, there isn't much you can do but kill them, run, or give them said reward. Hopefully no one will try to collect a reward from you in the middle of a fight!

Thanks to some prodding from a friend, I found a tutorial on how to set up Zbrush matcaps in unreal engine. After a few hours of tweaking, I've modified that person's shader to give Meridiana a look more inline with how she looks in zbrush.

Current shader is on the left, matcap shader is on the right:

The downside is that there is very little lighting on the figure with the matcap shader(that's kinda the point of matcaps). So its a tossup on whether to use it for the characters in game. If people are interested, I can post a copy of the shader with a brief explanation.

Finally, I've received a number of complaints that the goblins are not exactly the kings of sexy. This is very true, and as its probably time anyways, I've started working on the next enemy. Hopefully he's a little more attractive(just a little!).

As always, I'd love to hear any comments or concerns!

I like the new enemy, but I definitely think that having some "ugly" goblins, trolls, orcs...etc isnt necessarily a bad thing. I kind of like the idea of the Beauty and Beast contrast. It works with the seduction technique that she uses, the ugly monsters probably don't get the chance to fuck girls like Meri often...and maybe Meri doesn't mind taking it nice and hard from a few of them either.

I'm a new patron and just wanted to say hello and state my support. The game looks great already and it has a lot of potential. Definitely looking forward to what comes next! Thanks Mithos!

I like the look of the modified shader you've been working on! I think it fits the style of the models better than the original shader, but the raw matcap flattens things out a bit too much :/

I've been working on this all day adjusting settings and trying different things out. This is about as close as I can get it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/e0bugtmtwzaf9qn/Final.png?dl=0 The skin tone is a bit lighter than what I'd want, but as you can see it does receive some shadows. I'd like the shadows to darken it more, but then I think we start to run into the original problem.

Solid update! And loving the new 'enemy' most certainly seem a better fit for a tumble with Meridiana. Is there a possible in between version of the "original" and "Matcap" version? Although the Matcap brings Meri the look i believe one wish to achieve but at the same time it will look awkward if the lightening / shadows dont have any effect on her. The " original " (left) look often is to affected by the shadows that it looses detail. Overall though, amazing work! Keep it up!

The nice thing about matcap materials is also the problem in that they don't really use lighting. I'm looking into how i can fake it a bit. If I can't figure it out, I won't use it, but even if that's the case, i need to figure some way out to make her a little more readable in the face

Mithos56

My plan is that yes, he is very physically fit. Gonna give him some man lines cause Meridiana is into that.

Mithos56

oh man, i loved this matcap material, will test it in my own project, also loved the new enemy i hope he is more fit than the goblin ;D

Nuneko

I can see that, those are just my impressions. I'm sure once you model the body things will look more Cthulhu-ian since his head is hardly indicative of the rest. And I agree, it does darken her face too much. But the other one seems too uncanny compared to the first. Is there a way you might be able to merge the two or find a comfortable middle ground?

Meri on the right is the best in my opinion. The left Meri seems to lose some of her appeal with the heavy shading. My two cents!

He was meant to be a more attractive creature from the black lagoon/Cthulhu mythos fishman. The goal is to still make him a monster, but at least a little bit pretty. Also my only problem with the PBR shader is that it kinda shadows her face a bit and I don't think it looks as nice.

Mithos56

Personally I prefer the original Meri to the matcap version. The latter seems kind of weird and unfinished to me. While I do like the face of the new enemy it bears an uncanny resemblance to Abe Sapien from the Hellboy movies with a little bit of Zora from Legend of Zelda.

Snizzlefit

Love your updates, nice to keep us informed xD. This project is becoming more and more promissing.

Kick ass I like the non shaded one personally just so I can see what's going on with her body and the fish man is very handsome :)

Keep up the good work! <3
