February 14th Update <3

This week was a lot of animation work.  In fact it was almost completely animation, or implementing animation!   Normally I'll link pictures of gifs of the various animations, but given the amount, I'm going to skip that this time.  I will include a small video link for a few animations <3.

First I made a set of "got hit" animations for Meridiana.  She will now stumble a bit if she's hit.  She also has different animations if she's hit from the front, back, left or right.   She also has animations for being knocked backwards or forwards.




I also changed the way the knockback works.  I had originally decided to use root motion, but found a better way to do it with montage and animation notifies that allows for the player and enemies to be knocked back various distances, and use the same animations.





Given that its Valentines Day, I thought I WOULD give a little update on the status of the "love" system.  I've started building the animations for 2 and 3 goblin sex scenes, as well as redoing the one on one animation.  The reason I've redone the one on one animation is that it now has stages. 


Each sex animation will now progress in speed.  Currently there are three stages, and now that I know it all works I plan to add a forth "finisher"  stage.  While progressing the stages can be done in a variety of ways, currently have it set up to allow the player to do so with a button press.



Of Course, I would love to hear if anyone has any ideas for sex scene minigames, or opinions on doing something like that.

I like the stage progressions as well. I assume for the 4th stage "finisher" you are referring to the monster blowing his load? If so, I thought of an interesting idea for a mini-game during sex. I think it's best to make it optional though. The idea is that during stage1, if the player initiates the minigame, there will be a built in timer that dictates how long each stage lasts before moving to the next. The objective will be to make Meridiana have an orgasm by completing the minigame before the baddie (what should we call these guys in general anyway?) makes it to stage4. If you complete the minigame before stage4, then have an extra animation before stage4 that shows Meridiana cumming on his dong while he is still sexing her, then it can still progress to the normal "finisher" at the end. So if the player makes her cum, they get some kind of stat buff. But it should be optional so that if you would rather not be rushed and just take your time watching the normal stage progression at your own speed, then that is fine to. You just wont get the chance for the buff or get the extra orgasm animation. Also, you can add some depth by making certain baddies give her certain buffs. For example, a larger baddie that is larger downstairs as well will be easier to complete the mingame with because he can make her climax easier. While on the flip side, one of the little goblins may not be packing much heat and he is a little over zealous so he is more likely to reach stage4 without being able to get her off but if you manage to make it happen, you get a way better buff than the big guy can give.

Well getting the boobs to jiggle isn't a problem, but I want to do it right. I actually feel like I'm over exaggerating the jiggle a bit as is, but I can always reevaluate and try it a little more exaggerated if that's what people want. I'm glad everything is looking good in 4k, and if I need some video, I'll definitely keep you in mind!

Ah, right, I think you said that before, sorry :P Well if it's how you recharge a main resource, a minigame to augment the success of the recharge seems like a natural fit. Active reloading a-la Gears of War might be a good simple mechanic that could also gate progress to the more advanced animations? Like if you initiate sex it will play tier 1 until you've restored a certain amount of magic (i.e. 10 points) and then it's all over, but if you time an input right you'll immediately switch up to a higher tier and get a little more magic, and so on with each additional tier. Perhaps succeeding on the final tier gets some kind of bigger bonus beyond just recharging the resource.

The sex parts are not fail states, they are how you recharge your magic power. While I might have some sex stuff as a fail state, that's not the feel I want for the game.

Liking the idea of different levels for sex scenes. I feel you need more tit bounce and jiggle to your faster sex animations (being a big boob lover :) Not sure how hard to pull this off with the whole mesh/bone system. Love the main character design, keep up the good work. Also if you ever need someone to make videos or teasers for you let me know. I have a ton of video editing experience and a high end computer so I can record and play with high frame rate. I did some testing with your latest build in 4k with max settings and it looks pretty good so far.

I think the idea of some kind of sex minigame is dependent on your goals for the design of the game. I'm still not 100% sure on whether or not the sex bits are fail states or something else? Maybe you can take a penalty of some kind to watch more sex, and maybe doing so gives you a status effect for a time? Like maybe you could get a status like "post-orgasmic magic sensitivity" where your stamina is capped lower but you can temporarily cast more powerful magic? That could set up a risk/reward situation with bosses or the like where you intentionally have sex with weaker enemies to buff yourself for big attacks against the boss? As for breaking away from the sex, maybe you could have some kind of QTE or quick rhythm game where you take a dominant position and "defeat" your enemy before they can "finish" you off? Playing with the passive buff and risk/reward idea, maybe that would give you "post-coital confidence" where you gain a defense boost for a time? It's the tricky thing about games where the mechanic is you getting to see something you want to see by essentially losing or playing poorly. You don't want to incentivise losing too much, because then no one will ever try playing the "real" game you designed, but you also don't want to just penalize people for watching the sex, because that's why they're probably here in the first place and that would just be annoying. Also you don't want any minigames during the sex scenes to be difficult or too distracting ("argh, I need TWO hands for this?"), but if they're too easy then it's just as annoying ("why do I even need to bother with this crap?"). So it seems like you'd maybe want any minigames, if there are any, to give you a little reward for your effort. TL;DR: it might be a bit early to be thinking about minigames unless they're going to be a core part of the gameplay loop and overall design. Cool to see all the progress with animations and things!
