Undertale: Frisk's Journal - Day 4

I headed back to where I was and saw the future. Undyne was waiting for me on the path going towards the Hotlands. I try seeing any sort of way I can talk her out of it, but only saw combat and either her death or mine. I got so frustrated at trying to find a peaceful solution I just saw what would happen if I ran away. That’s when I discovered that she wasn’t prepared to fight a coward. So I came in with a plan to get away from her the moment I found an opening.

While these flashes of the future show me how the fight would go, they did not prepare me for how enthusiastic she was at fighting me. She apparently thinks Manga is real if she thinks we have giant robots and swords. She thinks my life is what stands between the monster and their freedom, but I know it's only going to end tragically if I’m not the one to set them free. The Wind is Howling as I begin the fight with Undyne.

Even as prepared as I was, it was scary to have to depend on my own blocking skills. She started off easy with straightforward attacks. Then the spears began to come from all sides. They kept speeding up until she stopped using her powers to keep me in place. The instant she dropped her guard, I rushed out of there. I ran as fast as I could but she got me half way down the hallway. She used her magic to keep me in place again and started using more tricky patterns. I managed to get away after she stopped using her magic and suplexed a huge boulder to intimidate me. It worked.

She caught me again and this time the spears were going around me to hit me. I barely managed to block most of them before another opportunity to run presented itself. Just as I was, Papyrus called me. For some reason, Undyne stopped her chase so I can take the call. I’m guessing she was worried I would trip and die, losing their chance to get a soul. Either that or she’s really polite. And to think Papyrus wants the three of us to hang out. As soon as he hung up, Undyne got me again.

All this running away is making her frustrated, as she didn’t even use her magic to keep me in place. So I ran and made it to the Hotlands. I ran past Sans who was sleeping. As frustrated as I was to see him not help, Undyne looked even madder. And as I crossed that bridge, the vision finally came true. Since Undyne is an aquatic creature, being in the Hotlands would dry her out. She would have possibly even died if I left her alone there. But I just couldn’t. Luckily a watercooler was there. I poured a cup and let Undyne drink it.

She seemed confused at first, but eventually she went back to Waterfall. Funny enough, Papyrus suggested to go to her house right after this fight. So I decided I might as well and take the bullet. I didn’t know where it was but luckily there was a ferryman who not only took me quickly to Waterfall but also pointed me to her house. Turns out while he told ME of the plans about hanging out, he did not tell her about it or the fact I was the Human she was hunting.

I was hoping with Papyrus here she wouldn’t have a reason to fight me, but it turns out he planned to leave the two of us alone while he jumped out the window! So here I am hanging out with a person who not a few minutes ago was trying to kill me. She thinks I was here to rub my victory at her face. When I told her no, she thought I wanted to be her friend. It is true, but she originally laughed it off since she doubted it would happen. She was about to kick me out before Papyrus said that she wasn’t up to the challenge. I’m not sure if Papyrus did that intentionally or not and that scares me.

But after hearing that her tune changed. She not only wants to be my friend, she wants me to be Besties with her so much I won’t think of anyone else. All this as the perfect revenge she said. I am kind of missing the spear throwing. She asked me to sit down and asked me what I wanted to drink. I wanted a closer look, but then she threw a spear at the table. Now I don’t miss it. She then suggested pointing out what I want with the spear. As much as I prefer the other drinks, something told me tea was the safest option.

After burning my tongue, we began to talk. She apparently thinks Anime is real and apparently read human history books? After a while, she told me about Asgore. She has a lot of respect for him and because of him training her she became the head of the Royal Guard and began to train others. Papyrus is one of them, but she felt he’s too innocent and nice to be a Royal Guard. I don’t blame her. If I was a cruel person, Papyrus would just be another number on a kill count. It's why she’s teaching him how to cook instead, to let him do something else with his life.

But after talking about teaching him to cook, she realized he’s bailing on their cooking lessons. And if he’s not here, that means I will have to take that cooking lesson. I think she’s more intense about cooking than hunting me down. And after taking her cooking lessons, I’m impressed Papyrus was able to actually make something. We burned down her house! She eventually becomes less enthused about being a friend and goes back to wanting a fight with me.

She asked me to even hit her and as much as I don’t want to, I tried. I just can’t muster an intent to hurt her. It's not like her hunting humans was personal. It was her job. Luckily that blow made her realize that she doesn’t want to fight me either. I’m, according to her, a wimpy loser with a big heart. Just like Asgore. She thinks we can talk and he’ll let me through. Won’t it surprise her to learn I plan on doing the very thing she wanted to do.

Since her place is burned down, she’s decided to hang out with Papyrus in Snowdin for a while. Considering what is ahead of me, I decided to head back to the Temmie Village to sleep once more there. Spending a day with Undyne is tiring and I suspect whatever remaining challenges will be as well. But before going to bed I decided to see how my progress was doing. And there they were: Papyrus and Undyne alongside Toriel. So close in freeing them all.
