I think you’re right about how it wouldn’t be obvious for people who don’t know them as well to guess what they’ll sound like! For me, I expected pretty much all of it but especially Vernon, Minghao, Woozi, DK, Seungkwan, Dino, Hoshi, and S.Coups. Although I also wasn’t surprised with Mingyu, Jun, Jeonghan, Joshua, and Wonwoo either…. I already knew what the other 8 would lean towards. Vernon has always been carats’ rockstar, with every solo he has done and concert he’s been to, he’s always been seen to be influenced by pop-rock. Minghao is ALWAYS and I literally mean ALWAYS seen at DJ booths in clubs or just DJ/Techno concerts. You wouldn’t guess that’s his music taste from just his personality alone, but I swear every post he makes is either the club BEING a DJ, a concert FOR DJs, or the art gallery… LMAO. Hoshi has always had solo music more upbeat and… idk how to even explain it, it’s just basically Hoshi’s genre atp.. I say it’s sassy. Dino always talks about how much he loves R&B as all of his favorite artists are R&B artists, specially Western ones. His solo “Wait” is also R&B-influenced, and when he posts choreographies on instagram or YouTube, 90% of the time it’s an R&B song. As you said, Seungkwan, Woozi, and DK are all expected to be vocal based with Seungkwan and Woozi leaning more towards the emotional side, while DK is the more energetic side. S.Coups has just always written disses since predebut so that’s kind of self-explanatory. For the others, Wonwoo has said before he actually really loves singing, but he was just very nervous to do so at first because he thought his voice wasn’t good enough (but recently he started to break out of it and I’m glad bc his voice is so pleasing!), for Mingyu… might not be as obvious but I feel he just gives the vibe. Jun I feel like has a brand like Hoshi… where even though his other solo songs weren’t the same as this one, it feels like the same genre. Jeonghan has a really soft singing voice and he utilizes it very very well. Not to mention, Jeonghan loves softer sounding songs so it wasn’t that much of a surprise for me. For Joshua… it just felt like him idek how else I could even explain that.
Well all of this to say, these things aren’t all basic knowledge and you’d have to watch a lot of content and keep up with them individually to know some of these things. I DEFINITELY understand how it can come as a complete shock to baby carats since some of their styles don’t match this looks or personalities!

Yay 2nd part - really enjoyed watching this and seeing your reactions - they each had very different takes on the theme "Me". Woozi wrote/produced the solos for: Shua, Wonwoo, DK, Jeonghan, Hoshi (Woozi did the topline).
Woozi's own solo was written for him by his producing brothers Bumzu and Park Kitae (the latter was the lead guitarist on their recent tour, so probably accounts for the electric guitar). Bumzu wanted to write something that would be as moving as Woozi's own songs "What Kind of Future" and "Downpour" (which Woozi wrote for IOI), and both songs are referenced in Destiny's lyrics. Woozi said it was such a special gift to him because it was by people he worked with almost every day for a decade, and that he had to record parts of it in the dark.
