Frequently employing pseudonyms like Marquis de Montferrat, Chevalier Schoening, and Graf Tzarogy much of his life is shrouded in mystery, seemingly by design. This has left him with a mystical, other worldly reputation that included alleged "sighting" of the Count even today. This has nothing to do with St. Germain, the elderflower liqueur in a Hugo Spritz, I just thought it was neat.
