How it’s Done: Stand Off Scene Concept Comparison

Hey-ho, fans and friends! It’s about time we get ourselves up and out there for a rowdy post, now isn’t it? Well we’re here, so let’s do it!

We’re working our way through Nat’s newest update to come, but with big missions come big lines to draw and plenty of lines of story to tie up with our plans. Lots to do, to do Nat well! We’re aiming to have ourselves a teasy Public Teaser sooner as we can, but for now let’s get some shining light on some of our other sexy ladies (or parts of them!).

As always, we’re not shunning our duties to practice, upskill and better the art we offer up to the alter of sex and sinful delight. That said, we’ve also got our foot in the “Action” camp too, so that also a concern for our improvement, especially with what’s coming just ahead with Nat. Also, we’ve recently had cause for some personal and professional joy in recent weeks on our Discord, as we’ve received a half dozen (slightly more actually) Fan Art images of Natasha too. In an attempt to pay it forward and encourage both, this post is not just a retrospective of how we’ve been trying better, this is also a “How it’s Done” to share some of our insights on making some sweet sexy action to get pumped about! For those so inclined, feel free to give them a try yourselves!

For this post we’re digging into the old archives of our own concepts to pull out this piece: Cat vs Mystique!

As Unshi said when we pulled this oldie out. “Wow. What Trash. I’m glad I forgot about that one.” So cruel to his own creation! Then again, we’re not even sure if we did share this one before in the end or it hit the scrap pile. Ah, but that said, we can do better! Not just that, we have!

Here’s a redone version, you tell us if we’ve done better, huh?

---

So now, how did we do it?

Well, in actual fact, it only took some minor changes to make a big impact. Starting from the same base idea, this new one took only a fraction of our usual time to create a concept. It’s more about the why’s then the whats, and a little effort can make a big difference, as you can see.

We really only changed 3 basic things: The environment, the camera position, and Cat’s posing (we didn’t even touch Mystique). We’ll take them one by one with a little bit if info on each.

The Environment

The scene is now in the B.R.A.S.S. facility. This helps us with two things, both subtly adding to the feelings of the concept. Unlike the non-descript city which has little to catch our attention, this locale is a known identity. It’s a place we care about. It’s a place of significance. It’s a place of danger too. Now we already know there is something at stake here, otherwise, why meet here of all places for an unrelated conflict? Now there is also some context to the impending action: Mystique is defending something, and Cat is determined to get it (helped along by her new posing).

For those not in the know about the details of the game and the location, there is some benefit to the change. The open area of the city makes for mobile combat, much like in comics or video games, people being thrown here or there, getting back up, smashing the pavement, etc etc. It’s very fitting superhero combat where you can shrug off truck hits and falling debris alike. Here though, it’s a much tighter space for much more human (if powerful) fighters. It’s intimate, and there’s little space to allow for missed maneuverers. Luck, skill and tenacity will all matter as much as agility and strength. There’s literally nowhere to run or to hide.

Both of those elements add a lot to our unstated intentions. One simple change can add a lot.

The Camera

The camera is a simple trick, tapping into the mind’s unconscious biases. This one isn’t really ours, it’s standard cinematography developed across the 20th century, but it’s powerful all the same. It’s worth a quick study for anyone interested in storytelling through images.

Upshots frame what we see as powerful. They make us feel smaller. From a shot this low we instant see ourselves as a prone or vulnerable observer at that, as a heroic figure comes into view with purpose (again, Cat’s pose is paying off). In the original we are near level with Cat, making it seem like we are a curious but safe observer rather than a helpless part of the scene. Mystique too comes off a larger than life figure, a threat or at least somebody of significance above us the viewer in the scene, all without her pose changing at all.

Cat’s Pose

Lastly, Cat’s pose has changed, from a passive stillness to one of motion. With this one small change we’ve brought urgence into the scene. It’s no longer a stand-off of talking, where differences are being hashed out and measures taken. Now the fight is imminent, there is no time to waste or perhaps a score that can’t wait to be settled? Even having the viewer stop to think a moment which could it be means we have a deeper situation on our hands, correct?

The new pose also gives us a better grasp on Cat’s state of mind here too, again adding subtly to the storytelling. The whip is all we need to see to know she’s moving towards Mystique and doing so at a quick pace. She’s not perturbed by the obstacle in her path, but she is wary of the danger and how easily this can (and likely will) go badly, as we see by how close her hand overs on her gun. Before she was passive, even lazier-faire or ready to crack a joke. Now she is determined to accomplish what she came her for, enough to fight and kill for it, but at the same time she’s not unaware of the stakes, and neither are we.

So those are the areas we’ve been looking at consciously bringing to bear more in our artworks, when it’s needed. It’s not at all only relevant for action either by the way. Upshots can make powerful women like Noe look even sexier when standing up to Sal, or for Kelsey when she’s pulling her own power-flirtations on the boys. Simularly, down shots can make them seem weaker and vunerable too. The right pose can add motion to sexual positions that make them feel more realistic to the imagination. Good use of environments can illicit a sense of safety or danger… just think about Noe changing into her work outfit in Sal’s office as opposed to her own, even if she is alone. All these things and more can make for some amazing moments, in-game (or even comic) and especially out in stand-alone concepts. Take what we’ve said today to heart, and see if people don’t notice it in your own art… or simply just enjoy knowing that there’s a lot of smaller things going on to make your experience with beWilder all the better!

Now, with that little tutorial all spoken about, let’s enjoy the sight of those ladies, now even sexier for out efforts. We’ll get back to Nat now and our other goals for the month’s contents. So until next we post some goodies…

Be taking sides between the ladies and beWilder!
