Anyone for Linux?

Howdy everyone out there, from the beWilderverse and beyond! Yes, today we are paraphrases that old Daffy Duck classic “Anyone for Tennis?” to propose a serious question to you all: Is there any interest for a Linux or a Mac Build?

We’ve got a poll open (which will remain open for a week) for everyone to respond to for a very good reason. Fans who back us already do so as they are confident they can run the Windows build. If not, we would have already heard from within about the need for one, and so only opening the poll to those from within would merely give us a whole lot of Survivor Plane Bias. That’s jargon talk for saying we are interested in the wider world’s view on this as well as our dear fans… but hey, let’s get to the heart of the question!

Before you cast your vote, a little backstory to the decision!

Way back when, in the times of AoH’s v0.1 days, we actually did produce both Linux and Mac builds. We even had a nice pic of our girls sporting the logos to give everyone the heads up! Let’s look back on those days for a second…

… Looking pretty nice there, girls! And another good example of how far Unshi’s art has come over the last year! Anyway, as you can probably tell, we discontinued the builds soon after. We got a total of 0 downloads at the time. It takes time and effort to build for, upload said build and support a platform… and the bigger the game gets the longer each of those tasks take, adding precious time to the required time for the Post Production phase of development. It’s only worth putting in that time if it will definitely be of use to people, rather than spending time on other tasks.

But things are different now. Back then we were still taking our first baby steps into the world of Adult Games and building our name up. Now we’ve got a much larger community behind us (and we are looking forward to celebrating some recently surpassed community milestones with you all soon!), we’ve shown we have staying power having been around more than a year, and we’ve made the bold claim to be as ambitious (and ‘Wild’!) as we can, so it might be time to bring them back? Hence, we want to hear from you all. We’ve been getting some requests in for these versions as of late, but it’s hard to tell if these are anything more than casual or ‘It’d be nice’ kinds of requests or if they would be of serious help to people. So, is it worth our time?

It also should be noted that neither of us have access to a Mac or Linux set up for testing, which does indeed complicate things a fair bit. That makes debugging specific platform issues (which are admittedly very rare) difficult and time consuming to fix. This means the Windows version will always be of the highest priority to us. We’ll also say it now, since we have gotten requests for Android versions too, that it’s not feasible for us to produce versions for each hardware type and mobile OS updates on a constant basis. Unshi lived in that mobile development Hell before AoH, and we’ve no plans to return any time soon. Sorry about that… but our games are best experienced on the big screen anyway!

Ok all, that’s our query for today! Have your voice heard and cast your vote now! As you all help us out with this burning question, we’ll be wrapping up the last stages of AoH’s v0.7’s pre-production and moving on to the best part of our job, the rendering of sexy ladies! That means that come next week, we’ll have a whole post to tease you all with what to expect from Nat’s next outing! We’ll also be revealing the winner of AoH’s Wallpaper Round #3 this Friday (still a day left to vote if you haven’t already), and therefore we’re only a week away from our latest Wallpaper and Stickerbook release! And the very last bit of news we have, we’ll be making up for the recent quiet time on our public fan Discord by releasing the second script of Kate’s Adventures in College, before she turned up on Nat’s doorstep, so check it out if that little ginger minx is of interest to you! That’s it for us then, so…

Be Macin’ and beWilder!
