Favorite Studio Ghibli Movie?

Merry Christmas fam!

As this holiday season and year come to a close, I can't help but think about all of my favorite wholesome movies. Of course, some that first come to mind include the various Studio Ghibli films I've grown up watching. They all have such a natural sense of wonder and joy that I feel is genuinely so special, and really can't be replicated. I think my favorite one has to be Spirited Away because it's the first one I remember seeing as a child, and even then, it moved me to tears.

I'd love to know: what is everyone's favorite Studio Ghibli movie and why?

Hope your holidays have been kind to you!

Casey

Castle In The Sky. It wasn't my first Ghibli movie, but it's the one that's stuck with me the most.

I've only ever seen Spirted Away but my favorite anime of all time is Eden of the East.

You ask me to choose just one of my beloved children?!?!?! ... It's tricky, that's for sure. Gun to my head I'd reply "The Wind Rises", but "Laputa", "Princess Mononoke" and "Spirited Away" are all damned close. Have a tremendously merry holiday and a happy new year!

Howls moving castle is my favorite. The art and the music just really are beautiful. I listen to the soundtrack to howls moving castle the most out of all of them.

Spirited away

The Wind Rises. I watched it with my family and we really enjoyed the story and pacing and artistry. Merry Christmas Casey! 🎁🎄

Spirited Away would be my favourite. It's the first Ghibli movie I've ever seen and was probably the first proper film I'd watch from a completely different culture. I saw it when I was a teenager and it was also the first time I felt myself trying to actually engage and understand what was happening, why, and what message it was trying to give instead of dismissing it out of hand. For some reason it's just always stuck out to me as being quite important for helping foster my love of properly analyzing texts (I'm now an English teacher) and also for having a good message.

I still can watch Howls Moving Castle like its the first time i have ever seen it, i love it so much!

Amador

Princess Mononoke is my favorite, I love it's environmental message but still how it keeps a hopeful outlook even for the characters that disagree with you. Combine that with the gorgeous animation and action and it's the complete package. Kiki's Delivery Service is a close second for it's heartwarming story.

Daakmore

Ponyo is pretty underrated. Not my favorite but felt like mentioning it since I haven't seen anyone really talk about it.

CreeperK20

When Marnie was here I didn't watch it as a kid, but the story telling was so beautiful and I remember crying Studio Ghibli has such a wonderful art style

Sparky Carolina

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind has to be my favorite.

Trent Tethrake

Not entirely sure if this counts but I'm a big Lupin fan so I really liked Castle of Cagliostro

The two that come to mind first are Princess Mononoke, and Porco Rosso.

Howl's Moving Castle is not only my favorite Ghibli movie. It's my favorite movie period

Castle in the Sky or Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind for me

Galick Orion

My favorite Studio Ghibli movie has to be Howl's Moving Castle. The characters, story, scenery, and especially the music was what made it my favorite. That movie is really magical to me and I loved everything about it.
