Portraits

Here's a sketch dump for you guys. I imagine Aunt Ginny's familial home being full of old photographs and portraits and I was drawing a few that will probably be background assets in future comics. Some you see here are young Ginny and her late sister Gwendolyn as well as her late mother Claire, and late husband, Mr Edgar Hackle.

About three generations of the Humboldt family have lived in that house, starting with Otto Humboldt Sr, (middle right)

…OHHH, I see why & how you designed the setting/neighborhood that Ginny & Darcy live in. It’s like a mix of the north & southside of Chicago, Ginny’s family once lived in a fancy neighborhood not unlike that of Hargrove. But due to economic changes like the Great Depression & resources maintaining cities like Ginny’s household nestles in went more in suburban development to create places like Hargrove, the area once affluent fell to disrepair & Ginny don’t have much money to her name to move out, let alone to upkeep it. And the surrounding area became demolished & developed to become buildings for people of low-income, especially tempting for disowned/outmode bots being paid less…

Oh ok, thank you!

In addition, in an earlier chapter Darcy says she lives with her great-aunt, but proceeds to omit the "grand-" part later on. So even if they are related (which that comment in "Home Sweet Home" still puts in doubt), Gwendy would be Darcy's grandmother and not mother.

Baldarek

In "Home Sweet Home" Darcy tells Emmy that Aunt Ginny "Isn't really [her] aunt, long story" so likely they aren't actually related and Aunt Ginny is just a nickname. Additionally, Gwendolyn looks to be about the same age as Ginny if a little older, and since Ginny looks to be in her sixties Gwendolyn would be much too old to give birth to Darcy, who's twelve as according to one of Dom's old Instagram posts.

Is Gwendolyn Darcy’s mother? Since Darcy refers to Ginny as her aunt

Wonderful portraits, Dominic! This type of thing serves the ambient a lot!

Goodness, her mother had such a piercing glare, which her sister seemed to inherit. Meanwhile Ginny had, and has kept, a wide eyed and friendly gaze.

The poor dear! No wonder she's crafted a family of outmodes and orphans. Losing all of one's blood family and being the only one left is not easy...

MomoSweetPeach

Yes it’s father and son haha

Dominic Cellini

Ohh, my bad! He looks just like him on the portrait. I even screenshotted both to compare it side by side. Lol

rjaegr

The older man on the right is Ginny’s grandfather, not her father.

Dominic Cellini

She’ll never give an exact answer either.

❤️

Simone Spinozzi

I wonder how old she is now!

rjaegr

He just looks older in this post..

Are these official designs or no of Ginny’s family? The dad one is confusing me from the wedding photo here and the portrait in the previous comic page. I’m just, a lil curious.

Dr. Rodin

The real place in Chicago has nothing to do with these guys they’re all fictional. But yes, those are Ginny’s grandparents on the right

Dominic Cellini

Honestly I can see the resemblance, he’s a pretty neat character design 👍

Dr. Rodin

Well darn I thought I was going somewhere with something. I figured they’re a somewhat pretty influential family that seem to be old money from the late 1800s with the fashion of who appeared to be Ginny’s great grandma to have a park named after them, I have a weird way of thinking.

Dr. Rodin

It’s a park in west Chicago

Dominic Cellini

Wait, Humbodlt? I could’ve sworn I’ve seen that name for a park on a map somewhere…

Dr. Rodin

That’s not him, that’s Edgar.

Dominic Cellini

Otto Humboldt looks a bit like Gomez Addams
