Script Previews & Where I've Been - Update 08/30/2023

Hey ya'll, Ruby here!

First thing's first, have the two scripts that are currently in production:

The End of Evangelion is (Not) A Happy Ending

I Found The End of Evangelion's Forgotten 11-Minute Live Action Scene

The total script lengths of each come out to around 30K words total.

They aren't quite what I was expecting to make, but they will be very substantial, distinct from one another, and are already coming together to be something I'm really proud of. These might be the most intensely research videos I've ever made, almost entirely by accident, but sometimes the hyperfixation just does what it do.

I will be the one editing the End of Eva video, the video about the live action scene will be getting handed to another editor, and we will be continuing progress on scripting and production the Haruspex in between editing.

Additionally, for those who haven't noticed yet, please be aware that I have more or less officially quit Twitter for a myriad of reason's which basically boil down to 'It's a bad site with bad management.' I'm now mostly active on Bluesky (for those of you lucky enough to have a foot in the door) and Tumblr (I can share NSFW content on here, mainly artistic nudity and blood. Will always tag it, but be warned).

With all that said:

Apologies for the long radio silence, but I figure I should let you know what I've been up to and how we got here. So, last I posted, I was just about situated to start editing on our End of Evangelion Analysis & Critique video, which was true at time of writing. Not long after though, I found an upload of a deleted live-action scene filmed by Hideaki Anno that was originally intended to be part of End of Eva that A) Perfectly embodied every single major critique I was trying to make of the movie, and B) Nobody seems to know it exists.

And I mean damn near no one.

This was me asking Eva fans, directly. Needless to say, this gave me pause. Some had heard of it to be sure, especially once I started to dig DEEP into the Eva fandom. However, everyone I asked about it one-on-one was nothing less than shocked that this was a real thing.

Because, to be clear, that clip up there is not a fanfilm, nor some weird spin off thing, nor homage, or sketch or whatever else. This is a live action scene that was originally meant to be part of The End of Evangelion, and was written, directed, and filmed by Hideaki Anno in the 90s, which survived in the film's edit long enough to be featured in the first trailer before being cut. This is comparable to finding a live action deleted scene written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki that was meant to be in Spirited Away.

I asked Super Eyepatch Wolf if he'd seen this, and he told me to make a video about it. I'm not sure it was really even a choice after that??

You can find more details on what went down exactly and what the scene itself entails in the script itself, no small part of it is detailing how I came across this in the first place. The consequent however was that I not only got pulled away on a powerful tangent as I tried to research as much as I could about this scene for the sake of a new video, but in the process learned a lot of  information which required a pretty substantial reworking of the main Critique script. All of which took... longer than expect, and longer than I would have liked, but I think the results speak for themselves.

This isn't to say my life has been all Eva though. Part of the reason why things have been slow is that I've simply had a lot going on.

Most notably, alongside all of this, I've been getting more involved with some game development than I'd expected. For those of you who follow(ed) me on Twitter or are active on the Discord, you might remember Death of a Wish, the indie action RPG that I've been editing trailers for. Well, I'll spare you the fine details, especially since some of them are still up in the air, but suffice to say that my role in that project is a bit more involved than originally planned and expected, but it's rapidly becoming one of the most rewarding creative ventures I've ever been a part of. I'll almost certainly have more information on this the next time I post, but I'm excited to share it with ya'll.

Promise it will be well worth the wait. Recording and editing these Eva videos has already begun and should begin to bear fruit very soon. Once inertia's going on editing for those, we'll be right back to Haruspex and, with any luck, will have most the resources and assets we need ready to go by the time the Eva videos are ready to go up.

As always, thank you all for the support. Looking forward to seeing ya'll again real soon!

Peace,
Ruby <33
