Here's my crisp, new track for you guys. I always thought of the vinyl samples as having a crispy quality to 'em, anyway...
I feel like with every WIP I've been putting together I've been getting a clearer idea of what my next project might sound like, though I still need a lot of work to get there. I want to do a kind of plunderphonics record inspired by Chance De La Soul and the Avalanches, though it's a bit tricky when you're dealing with so many samples. The tricky part is making sure everything sounds nice and cohesive, and not like a billion different ideas haphazardly mashed together. I can't have one track mixed one way, then the next completely differently...
Chance De La Soul is a particularly big influence here, at least in the way his records have a certain sound to them. I believe that if you're doling with sample-based music, there's still to give your music a personal touch, despite being made up of hundreds of other songs. Chance exemplifies that for me. If you're listening to a Chance track, you can hear it. I want to have a similar effect with my next album, but it's a lot of work!
