I'm so upset I missed this cause life has been poop BUT IM SO excited about this podcast setup. Micah, your voice and personality were made for this. I'm so glad you dipped back into RIIZE. I know we all wish things had gone differently, but we move on and support everyone. Musically, I really loved Impossible & Love 119. So I was still 50/50 on the music until this album. This album gave me what I have been wanting from a Kpop BG for so long. &Team and RIIZE have really brought me back . I could go on. That being said, I am so excited for Xnghan and this unique approach. From what I'm understanding Xoul is not a fixed team but an expanding team that will include all the creatives he eventually gets to work with. And he's having so much input into his album and we're going to see a solo debut from him that normally takes years for SM to approve. The cost of it sucked, but I hope he gets nothing but success and stability moving forward. PS I hope hope you get a chance to react to the whole album (maybe the film that came with it?)

10/10!! I really enjoyed this and love how you summarized everything that's happened so concisely, and I agree with every single one of your points. As one of the boycotters of Riize, I also felt like I couldn't listen to their songs or watch content anymore, just because of how sm was going on about completely removing Seunghan and his history in Riize. All the shady cuts in their behind content, the re-recording of siren- that nobody needed- It was just hard for me to enjoy the guys knowing he was there, probably reading hate comments, and feeling guilty for doing things that I think are completely normal and not something that should have resulted in death wreaths. Now that he is debuting as a solo artist, and at least has a team of dancers, my heart feels a little less heavy and more at ease (because god- the amount of emotions I felt the whole boycott was crazy like one minute we was cheering and being happy with these little crumbs and the next we were all spiralling). Why he's debuting as a solo artist instead of just going back to Riize still blows my mind, but I will be supporting him nevertheless and trying to get back into Riize as well. That said, as you mentioned, solo artists don't receive the same level of attention as groups and while he's going to have many supporters, he's still going to face the same haters as well, but I just hope that he's happy, and gets the promotion he deserves.

I enjoyed their album a lot. Would be curious to see your take on their project. They even dropped visuals for all the songs in that movie thing they did and they uploaded it to YT

Love this take! Makes a lot of sense

Riize’s rookie era reminds me so much of EXO’s in the way that they achieved great success from the beginning but that was followed by a series of unfortunate events immediately after because SM entertainment is a business and they will always prioritise profits over people. This take is probably going to upset some people but objectively, I do understand why Seunghan was let go. Because although Riize’s debut promotions were geared towards a global audience, the market that responded the most to their debut was South Korea (Japan and China as well). And if we look back at boy groups and their reception in Korea since the 4th gen, it has been rather disappointing. Many attempts had been made to “revive” the boy group market in South Korea and most flopped because the general public rejected boy group music. But GAG went viral and the general public actually paid attention to Riize which translated into a big Korean core fanbase. Which is something you really don’t see anymore for rookie boy groups. So it was either they kept Seunghan and lost one of their biggest selling points or they let him go and kept their advantage over other boy groups. I’m not saying it was the human thing to do but from a business perspective I can see why things unfolded the way they did. I think if it had happened later in Riize’s career and they had a more established international fanbase at that time, then the situation would probably have been handled differently. Either way, I do believe that all 7 members worked hard and gave their all to pursue their idol dreams and they all deserve to continue working towards that dream. So, I do agree that Seunghan getting what looks to be a well thought out solo debut, gives both parties the opportunity to move forward in a positive direction. Personally, I wasn’t very into Riize at debut when they were 7 so I haven’t experienced the loss that debut fans have so I feel more neutral about it. But I do think even as 6, the group has so much potential and every comeback their music sounds better. So despite all the negativity and fighting that surrounds them, I feel like their future is bright and they will achieve great things. And hopefully so does Seughan!
