XG Coachella

I definitely considered NOT uploading this cos it was SOO disappointing but I wouldn't want to waste a whole 45 minutes to the ether!

For the positives, I loved the styling and setlist.

For the negatives.

I was gobsmacked that there wasn't a single full live vocal moment in a single song. With the handheld mics we got some different vocals but they still weren't live and the body language and facial expressions show this. This is not up for a debate, not a single part of this was live AND that's not a crime.

However it feels like one when the artists don't seem engaged or come alive on stage which was such a surprise cos I KNOW what XG can do but here they seemed a little annoyed and I think there may have been technical difficulties maybe? They seem MUUUUUCCHH happier on tour and lip synching has never held their charisma back before, like look at them in their music videos?!?! Sooo full of life. Maybe it was nerves tbh. I'll see how they fare next week.

I also didn't understand the rearrangement of Shooting star which is at the end of the set for a reason, I'm sure people would want to hear it how it is made?! Also the lack of dancers throughout the set made some songs feel emptier in parts.

Either way, i would LOVE a full official tour recording from them to react to because this was not their best work at all and did them a disservice.

I also had technical difficulties of my own and didn't even really watch the final 3 songs but honestly, I'm okay with that.

Paying to write a nonsense comment is a sign of mental illness lol please find joy in your life instead of wasting your time and money arguing with strangers over people who'll never know who you are <3.

Lol if the live vocals were more obvious then week 1 simply wasn't as live for whatever reason. They probably thought people wouldn't notice. Gaslighting that many people is crazy cos when vocals are truly live, there's rarely any doubt. Either way, I've seen their MR removed videos on youtube where you hear genuine unfilited, out of breath pitchy vocals. Their not inhuman, they sound like just like everyone else when they're genuinely singing live. This was not live. Even with the fancams, I watched it all. Live vocals are pretty obvious. Pre-recorded live sounding vocals that match face muscles and body language are also obvious but it is what it is!

Sooo I know I’m late to this, and I lot of ppl have already moved on and made their own conclusions…. BUT I do have to say that they were singing live lol!! The backtrack was tweaked higher in order to account for how windy it was (ex. the In The Rain performance) In live fancams of people that were actually there you can hear them a lot clearer. Even people in the audience were saying they were live. For XG it must be crazy that you’re soo good and in tune that you get lip sync allegations lol. Obviously by now weekend 2 has passed and the live vocals were heard a lot better, and the wind wasn’t as strong. You can tell the girls saw the lip sync comments too and proved people wrong in between weekend 2 at their Seattle concert and at the festival ( Chisa even mentioned it on their forums😅) It just sucks that misinformation was spread so fast and swayed everyone’s minds about the group. Cause don’t get it twisted, they got the talent. They’re not just pretty faces and flashy costumes, they put in that work and have fun while doing it. ❤️

Nala

Yess I've heard!

Koko3op

I know I'm late as hell bro, but I'm watching weekend two and it is night and day. Idk if someone pissed them off or what, but it is so much better

Tevin Barnes

Probably the latter LOL! But the fact they gaslit the fans really annoyed me though. I'm tempted to react again though

Koko3op

just popping in to say that week 2 of Coachella was actually live and it was so much fun! The setlist and costuming is different as well. Really makes me wonder if the wind forced them to use backtrack or if the response to the lipsyncing pushed their label to let them sing live

summies

It’s MR removed of pre recorded live vocals that do not match their movement at all lol. Watch their mr removed performances from inkigayo etc for real vocals. That are pitchy and very realistic. Their left right one is what true live vocals sound like.

Koko3op

Just saw mr removed videos on youtube and girl they are liiiiiiive as hell.

gavinn

Yeahh people on twitter and tiktok are being delusional as HELL lol as if there isn't MR removed clips on youtube that show what they ACTUALLY sound like. It's gaslighting at it's finest!

Koko3op

God bless you Micah. Seriously! I spent the whole day yesterday on Twitter dumbfounded at what I saw people saying, ESPECIALLY those who were going hard claiming that they sang 100% live and used no back track. I said baby is the 100% live in the room with us? Then I thought maybe it was because I watched the stream with headphones, that’s why I heard the loud back track. But even in those fan cams…yeeeeah. Anytime they sound exactly like the original track, you gotta know something is up! I know they were having technical difficulties due to the wind but idk…I just expected so much more. I hated those remixes that were used during the dance break, and I was PISSED that the rock version of Shooting Star was used. Like there is zero magic in that rock version smh. Also I have a theory that ever since XG started getting praise for how in sync they dance, Simon has made the choice to focus on choreo and sacrifice their live singing. Which I hate because I feel like if the girls had control things would be different.

Yesss it really is a shamee

It's honestly really refreshing to see your perspective on this performance. I was so disappointed with this performance and PARTICULARLY the use of the prerecorded vocals simply because of how EXCITED I was for their set. XG was the performance I was looking forward to the most out of all of them, because I thought if anybody could serve vocals, synchronicity, energy and just PERFORM it would be them. I swear 90% of people online are praising them for their performance and especially their 'live vocals' which is bewildering to me because their backtrack was easily the loudest out of all the kpop performances from the week. It's most disappointing because I know for a fact XG can perform, and they can perform to the highest standard. Look, supporting vocals and backtrack is totally fine, i'm sure it makes the artists feel more comfortable and secure when performing and I'm all for that, but I'm getting so sick of companies trying to 'protect' their artists by not allowing them to sing live or showcase their abilities AT ALL in fear of criticism. It's doing nothing but sabotage these artist's reputations and image. I hope they can change my mind next week, because throughout the set there were definitely subtle glimpses of what could be an amazing performance.

budley

the constant issue of groups having the backtrack so loud that it overshadows them singing is so annoying. it's basically a mix of lip syncing and 'singing' except its a backtrack over the entire melody so the viewers are hearing nothing but pre-recorded vocals LOL. i keep seeing everyone talk about their "live singing" like ma'am... the only person you can kinda over the backtrack is juria and chisa bc they push their voices (39:43 like how is she belting this high note and she barely peaks through the backtrack). thankfully you can tell that the mics are on bc of the random adlibs they had but still... i hope the sound team will do better with the mixing next week. the styling and setlist fr made it for me even though i'm more of a casual fan of theirs ! it's nice to see them take those risks

Jonathan

HAAHAH You didnt miss much at all!

Koko3op

I was disappointed to say the least. There were few points when you could here their live vocals, but it was still 90% covered by backing tracks. The only reason I heard it was because I cranked my headphones to max, which I just shouldn't have to do considering I was already using a volume extension. I feel similarly to how I did when I saw aespa in London, like 90% of that was lipsynced; not even live hidden behind a loud backing track, just full prerecorded tracks. But all these prerecorded tracks, DESPITE the fact XG had decent audio engineering at their stop in London??? The arrangements were... odd. They didn't sound like the ones I heard at their concert but people are saying they were the same so maybe I'm just misremembering. They had that long ass break that had NO BUSINESS being that long, especially when they were already running late because of Ty; which is just a WHOLE other conversation of Coachella picking and choosing who can run over schedule. I'm so glad I didn't stay up for this tbh. Along with Lisa and Jennie LMAO

seungtakho

Ahhhhhhhhh okay!!

Koko3op

It's the same in the fancams lol. I've checked. They're simply not singing live

Koko3op

I heard Ty Dolla $ign, who was performing before them, ran late and they had to quickly go through every song before the midnight 'hard noise' curfew for Sunday. Maybe that's why they seemed kinda rushed? Anyway, the vocals were definitely pre-recorded. The 'Is This Love' performance was a definitely highlight though!

Ian

I will say that in fancams, you can hear them much better than the official Coachella audio. Not sure what’s up with the mixing on the Coachella side of things but fancams sound much better and you can hear the girls better. But I do think the wind is why the backtrack is so loud, it was pretty rough I heard. Hoping week 2 is better weather for them and they can lower the backtrack.
